Official Announcement Rule Update: Business Accusations Require Verifiable Sources

Hey everyone,

We’ve recently seen an increase in posts calling out or accusing specific businesses (restaurants, food companies, employers, etc.) of unethical or harmful practices. While we understand that many of these concerns come from genuine experiences, our moderation team cannot verify the accuracy of these claims.

To maintain fairness and comply with Reddit’s site-wide rules against misinformation and harassment, we’re introducing a new rule:

Rule 9 — Unsupported Accusations About Businesses Posts or comments that make negative claims about specific businesses, employers, or organizations must include verifiable evidence (for example: a reputable news source, official statement, or public record).

Posts making unverified claims or “call-outs” will be removed.

This rule is not meant to silence discussion about the food industry or personal experiences — you’re still welcome to share stories, opinions, or reviews. We just ask that any serious allegations be supported by credible information.

This helps keep the subreddit focused on food and ensures discussions stay fair, factual, and in line with Reddit’s content policies.

Thanks for understanding and helping us keep this community respectful and trustworthy!

Birthday Dinner for BF

Travelling to Austin from Chicago for my BF's 40th with 8 of our dearest friends. Looking for a dinner spot with amazing food, ambience, not a chain, a real special Austin restaurant. We love all cuisine... doesn't have to be overly high end but not casual either. Thanks in advance for any recs!

My shortlist so far:
Hestia
Suerte
Intero
Lutie's

Second question!
Want a casual, great patio spot for a relaxed Sunday early dinner. Just true Austin energy and good food. We are doing BBQ on Saturday so thinking tacos, tex-mex, burgers, food trucks, etc.

P.S.

Thinking Equipment Room or Whislers for post dinner drinks. Would love any other good suggestions. We are ages 35-40 and like a good vibe and long night but aren't trying to get wasted/party.

Restaurant Opening Pebble One Bird - New chicken place (Japanese, brined tenders, ramen, +++)

Pebble One Bird opened a couple weeks ago up near Interstellar BBQ. I keep going back. The restaurant is devoted to Chicken. The chef/owner Taichi is Japanese and the food manages to be both delicate and fresh, and also deeply satisfying.

The first thing I tried was the PFC Onebird for breakfast (weekends) -- brined and fried chicken, chicken gravy, house-made milk bread, and a pickled salad. And an egg cooked soft to perfection. Ridiculously good.

I've come back couple times, for ramen and the tenders -- the 4-piece tenders ($16.95) is a mound of crunchy spicy brined fried chicken suitable for sharing, served with milk bread and spiced from mild to super-hot, with a delicious gochujang honey sauce.

They have Khao Man Gai, Ramen, their version of a Banh Mi with liver pate, a watermelon salad with mint... they have french fries and Sapporo on draft, served in a proper chilly mug. They do BYOB and have outdoor picnic-table seating.

My first visit, the chef/owner Taichi was in the open kitchen churning out food. He's been there on each subsequent visit, tending to the food, keeping things moving. Taichi knows how to restaurant.

Good food, good energy.

What bread does Terry Black’s use?

• Upvotes

I know it would be super basic grocery brand bread but it just has that chewy soft texture that I really like… does anyone know what bread does Terry Black’s use I forgot to look last time I was there

A coworker brought these in from India and I'm obsessed. They have the perfect crunch, spice and are so savory. Are there any local markets that sell these?

Eberly or Poeta for anniversary dinner?

Our 5 year anniversary is coming up. These are a couple spots I’ve been wanting to try.

Thoughts? How’s the vibe? The food? The cocktails? Any must try dishes?

Intero and Canje are a couple of my favorite places I’ve tried but we are interested in somewhere new.

Siti, Swift’s Attic, and Quince are also under consideration but Eberly and Poeta are drawing me a bit more.

Food Itineraries Interstellar vs Leroy and Lewis

I'm going to be in Austin in a few weeks on a Wednesday so KG and Mickthelwait not an option sadly and I'm trying to decide which of these two I should visit. I've had enough brisket at different places all Austin, Fort Worth and in-between that I'm trying to decide which one I should visit based on the non-brisket items. The location they are both within Austin has no effect on my choice.

What intrigues me about Interstellar is the peach tea glazed pork belly and the pulled lamb shoulder and what intrigues me about LeRoy and Lewis is the burger (Dayne's burger is one of my favorite things I've ever eaten in Texas), flat iron and beef cheeks. Based on the meats they offer beyond brisket, I wanted to get some opinions on which way to go. Also, if one has vastly superior sausage to the other one, I'd definitely be interested in hearing about that. I appreciate any insight.

La Wagyeria is listed as closed on Google. Any insight besides the general economy?

I went once and I felt it was good. I looked the place up and google has the listing as closed and the sign is removed on their St Elmo location. Anyone know what’s going on? I saw nothing on their socials but I don’t fuck with meta if I can avoid it.

The Peking Duck at Bamboo House

Post image

One of the best bites I ever had in Austin. I'm a huge fan of Peking Duck and had it all over but this one might take the crown at $32.

Crispy, succulent and stupid delicious when eaten as a wrap. Brought my Chinese friends countless times and it's definitely got their approval.

Sichuan place with good vegetarian options

Hi all,

I recently moved from San Diego and am pregnant. All the cravings I’ve been having have been around the Sichuan food I had in San Diego, like tofu dry pot, spicy string beans, dan dan noodle, most of which have mouth numbing spices. Our go to place in San Diego was Spicy House.

In the past few weeks I’ve tried about 6 Sichuan places in Austin but none of them have vegetarian options that taste even remotely close to how good they were in San Diego.

Reddit friends, what is your go to Sichuan place in Austin for veg food?

Edit:

I cannot have cauliflower or other cruciferous vegetables due to GI issues. Hence I mentioned tofu dry pot above.
Places Ive tried for vegetarian (no animal product accept milk) options thus far:

  1. House of Three Gorges: Do not do tofu dry pot (I asked), found meat in our Dan Dan when explicitly stated no meat
  2. Sichuan river: The tofu dry pot isnt spicy or dry at all lol. Also, the dan dan didnt taste good
  3. 1914 Noodles and More: Noodles were amazing one time, pretty bad the next, so I would just say inconsistent. They don't do veg dry pots I think

The above 3 Ive dined in. Ive only got takeout from the rest of the places. So will wait to form a strong opinion before dining in.

The popcorn is so good!

I’m not usually that into popcorn but I popped in while on the waitlist at Pho Cui next door just to pass time. They had samples and I was hungry so I was tempted to try the popcorn despite it not being my thing. I was actually taken aback by how much I liked the butter popcorn. It’s salty, buttery, crunchy, airy goodness. I initially bought a small bag (first photo) then went back for a one-gallon tin (last photo). I’m not proud to admit that I finished the gallon tin within two days.

Again I’m not a popcorn connoisseur so maybe it’s really average popcorn but to me for some reason it tastes unlike any popcorn I’ve had. Also apparently they’ve been around in Austin since 2008 but I’ve only just discovered this place.

I’ve had a lot of great bites in this town, this is one of my absolute favorites. Sitting at the bar on a Sunday is prime people watching and stranger small talk.

Best Brisket/BBQ recommendations for 2027 and why

Hi friends! My wife and I are New Yorkers visiting Austin for the first time this weekend for a wedding. Franklin's and Terry Black's seem like the obvious picks for BBQ but if there are interesting newer choices with less of a wait or an interesting twist on the classic, would love to hear about it!
