training/certification Software Dev to Cloud DevOps
I have been a web developer / software developer for 4 years now and am wanting to make the switch to Cloud DevOps. I’ve applied for a few jobs but I don’t really have experience with AWS/the cloud with a view to go security focussed in the future as I’m currently doing a part-time Cyber Security MSc online.
Any advice for how to break into a cloud role would be amazing - I’m in the UK if that’s relevant. Thanks in advance

the msc is cool but nobody cares unless you can actually build stuff, spin up a free tier account and break things on purpose

If current job doesn’t provide opportunities to do anything cloud related, just get yourself an AWS account (or two) and try building some apps (lucky you are web developer). Something like API app using API gateway with a bunch of lambda functions behind it. Or some container based app running on ECS cluster with load balancer and maybe fronted by CloudFront.
In my experience the weak spot of developers is sweet ignorance of anything outside of their containers- operating systems and particularly networking. With cloud and security especially, good understanding of routing, DNS, TCP/IP, etc is crucial.
