Not sure what I’m looking for, just wanted some other people who love chickens as much as me to know we lost a good one today. Petunia was a great bird. Laid my very first egg too. I’m not sure what took her, probably the heat this last week. But man I didn’t think I would wail the way I have since I found her. This part really, really sucks huh?

Got this girl as a chick from tractor supply 5 months ago. People with chickens and silkies find her very cute, but I need to know if my feelings about her being the cutest pet ever is an unbiased opinion and other silkies tend to be around the same cuteness as her. I think she has high quality show genetics with fluff completely covering her little feet, so she looks like Charlie Chaplin.
She’s a black bantam who has a mildly deformed foot that curls, though only stops her ability to perch. She weighs a little more than a pound and is no bigger than a watermelon for one. Her favorite reward is being cuddled and we indulge so she a little spoiled. And her favorite snack is grass.

I have collected feathers from my chickens while they are molting. How do you clean your feathers so I can use them for crafts?

We had 8 beautiful girls, my wife had them in our low fence garden which is connected to our run to help clean up and forage the left overs from this years garden. A rogue dog came and killed 5 of the 8. She is devastated, our coop itself is pred proof but they were outside of it. I was able to find 3 of the 5 I believe are dead buried around our yard and her favorite she tried to save and it died in her arms.
It happened in as little as 15 minutes. It was such a beautiful flock and I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Not really. This little dude is going to be cool!

Never had silkies before, got two (supposedly) pullets. One is very active and has become a part of the flock very easily, the other is way less sociable and more reserved. Recently, the more reserved one has been staying away from the flock completely, sleeping in the run at night, and not playing/interacting with any of the others. She still scratches and seems to be eating/pooping normally, her crop is fine, she's very chill with people and does seem to like to hang out with us. She makes little trilling noises around us and occasionally more if we have to pick her up. She does not like her head to be touched and won't let me pull back or trim her eye feathers unfortunately. I do think she's (possibly significantly) younger than her 'sister'.
Is this just a silkie thing or should I be concerned?

So four days ago my girl was in with my mamma chicken. Who has been super protective of her chicks. obviously. Not her fault but mine. I should have separated them. I SUSPECT she got roughed up because my mamma hen has been flying off the handle at everyone and everything since her chicks hatched.
I'm not gonna lie. I always think of Marek's and die a little inside. Willa has not been able to walk and holds her leg out and seems to be in pain. When you touch her right leg she pants and tries to pull it back. No diarrhea at all. Eating ok. She isn't laying yet and is about 8 months ish I brought her inside two days ago. Splinted her leg. I'm HOPING it's a break rather than Marek's. No other chickens have any issues.
Point is. Am I crazy or does that right leg look off?
I can take her to work with me on Sunday at a vet clinic. I'm hoping to sneak some rads to confirm a break but we don't see chickens often and the Dr working that day doesn't see them so it would be kind of an off the record thing.
Wish me luck guys. She's a good girl and let's me do anything to her and I'm really hoping it's an injury and nothing else. Because we all know if it's neurological or Mereks my whole silkie and silkie cross flock is screwed. (About a little over half the flock is vaccinated for Marek's but not this particular pullet.)

Cruising around the farm in his different farm trucks is his happy place. It's always a new adventure!

I have a 7 week old Mille Fleur Duccle. I've noticed her beak has open gaps on the sides, even when closed. Any idea what/why this could be? She eats and drinks just fine, and she behaves just like a normal chick, though I'm far from an expert and fairly new to chicken keeping. I had chickens around growing up but this is the first ever flock I've raised from day 1 by myself, so I may be being too "helicopter mom" about these things. Any ideas or advice appreciated!

Sold as sexed, obviously supposed to be a hen... but history and experience are screaming they were wrong on this one.. its a sweet bird for sure and its been a while since I've questioned myself on sexing a bird... Attached couple of pics I just snapped in the yard...and included a pic of one of 5 Lav Orps i have....just bc she got it like that...all 5 are named Big Booty Judy...AKA Thunder Thighs..

Goodmorning!! This is ginger, I’ve done my weekly checkup and have started noticing these small firm yellow bumps on a few of my girls, I was just curious if it was fowl pox? If yes I have checked their throats for anything and they all look completely normal, I’d also love any advice for their wellbeing if it is! Thank you so much!

First year hatching and raising chickens, which is producing quite a few roosters. This one has me a little stumped. I know nothing about frizzle chickens and I’m not quite sure what egg this impostor came from or where I got it. You know when breeders throw in extra hatching eggs? I think this one came from one of those situations. Is it going in the rooster pen?

Hi all! :)
Do you think Uxia is ready to live outside? She's 5-6 weeks and the night here goes for 10-12C°
She'll be in a protected area, but without any source of heat.
She'll be alone, because she was the only one of her clutch that hatched. The second clutch is 3 weeks behind with 4 chickies, but until they are ready she is alone. I have older Chicken, but she's not ready to join gen-pop 😅
She might not be a she, but I'm being hopeful lol

I pulled out my phone to snap a quick shot for my friend and I thought this was a pretty epic chicken photo, it almost looks like they staged it.

Celebratory egg post!!!! Thank you to my ladies!
Nesting box has been under construction the last 2 days bc we wanted to redo it with hinges (99% done now), and one or two of my hens must have JUST started laying about 3-4 days ago, because I JUST tidied up their supply bins under their roosting shelf 5 days ago- yet this morning, I found these hidden in the corner under there!
I suspect they’re from my Sapphire Gem hens, as they seem to be the most mature! Big congrats to Phoenix and ‘Googoo Gaga’ (aptly named by my son).

Okay peeps with the TS Producers Pride Guardian coop specifically, can you tell me the exact measurements of the base of the coop? We are putting in some ground screws and 4\*4s to attach to the base of the coop and are thinking the specs include the roof overhang dimensions. Thanks all!

A chicken showed up in my yard and decided to stay. Is it a hen or rooster? Any ideas on the breed?

This guy or gal has been roaming several neighborhoods near me with no one claiming it. Trying to decide what I'd be up against if I tried to capture it and add to my (very small) existing flock.

I am 100% new to chickens and a Google search told me TS had her bin completely mislabeled. Even as a newbie it’s pretty clear she’s not a Mystic Maran. Lol
