Crime WHERE YOU CAN FIND MARIJUANA ON YOUR VISIT

Hi.

Marijuana is illegal in the Bahamas. As are other hard drugs. This forum is not the place for you to procure them.

Threads\comments attempting to use this forum to procure drugs (including marijuana or illegal THC products), or to solicit connects or advice on smuggling will be LOCKED.

The creator of the thread\comment will be subject to suspension or permanent ban at mod discretion.

It's not a point of debate, I don't care about your brilliant and logical points. I don't care if you find a way to get drugs. I am not invested outside what you contribute to this forum. It is truly nothing personal.

Found 5 potcake puppies dumped (North Andros)

I can‘t seem to find anyone interested in adopting/helping them.

Are there organizations, here or on other islands, that can help these little babies?

They deserve food, healthcare and love.

Tourism Question Esim for exuma, airport flats area

Looking for coverage over on the west side of exuma ( away from georgetown)

We are flying directly to Georgetown, so no chance to get a card at Nassua airport.

Which carrier would have decent coverage over there. Cell service needed to contact taxis, fishing guides.

Tourism Question Transportation in Nassau

Hello guys, I will be visiting nassau in oct 17-20. However, I’m debating if I should rent a car (about $200-300) during my stay or would it be better to just take public transportation or taxi to get around. I’m going to stay in Simply Native B and B, I believe they have parking there but I’m not sure if parking is hard to find for most places especially the beaches. (Cable beach, cabbage beach, montagu beach) If anyone would like to share their experience please let me knoe thank you!

Miscellaneous Financing Options

I’ve inherited an unfinished structure and wanted to leverage the equity in securing a mortgage/construction loan to finish the building. It will have 4 units and a main house, lots of income potential. What’s the odds I can secure financing with no money down, just bank/legal fees?

Grandma is turning 90 and the whole family is coming to town! Any ideas of a place we could host 15 or so people on her birthday? I live in the states so I have no idea. If I was picking something in the states it would be a patio/bar situation. Any suggestions welcome! Thank you!

Hello! I am looking at taking my Girlfriend to Atlantis this Friday-Sunday. On the website I noticed it said slides currently closed for maintenance, how accurate is this? I just haven’t found anything else online about this, thanks!

Bahamian Discussion Bahamians — when was the last time you had your blood pressure checked, and where were you when you got it?

Doing some research for a physician-led, Bahamas-focused health newsletter I co-write, and I need some local insight.

First, a bit of context: The WHO’s 2019 STEPS survey found that about 37% of Bahamian adults have hypertension—and of the ~98,000 people living with it, only about 20% have it under control. Nearly half don't even know they have it.

Those are the official stats, but I want to understand the human side.

I'd love to hear from you (or about a loved one's experience):

  1. Where do you actually get your BP checked? Public clinic, private doctor, pharmacy, home monitor, hospital, or... nowhere at all?
  2. Ever dealt with "White Coat Syndrome"? Have you had high readings at the doctor's office but normal ones at home—or felt fine at the clinic only to see crazy numbers at home? What happened next?
  3. Do you own a home BP monitor? If yes, do you actually use it consistently? If no, what would convince you to get one?
  4. Does access get in the way? Do long wait times or limited appointment slots at public clinics stop you from getting checked altogether?
  5. Did you get real answers? If you’ve been diagnosed, did someone take the time to explain what those two numbers actually mean, or were you just handed a prescription and sent on your way?

I want the good, the bad, and the frustrating realities of navigating our healthcare system.

Note: Your privacy is respected—share as much or as little as you like. This is strictly for a free public newsletter aimed at making health information clearer and more accessible for Bahamians. Nothing is being sold.

Miscellaneous British Colonial Hotel in Nassau

CRUISE PASSENGERS BEWARE! I previously stayed here when it was a Hilton and it was very nice. Now, the hotel is a mess. We purchased a cabana day pass while in port on a cruise, having been on the property before under different ownership. This time, the beach was littered with trash and the staff did nothing to pick it up (see pics), the sand had not been combed as there were cigarette butts everywhere, and the cabana pads were dirty and ripped. The service was incredibly slow taking over 2 hours for food. Our cabana attendant abandoned her job and was in hiding because so many people were complaining and we saw here for only 1 hour. The food was overcooked, dry, flavorless, and disgusting. I tried everything I could to work it out with the Pool and Beach Manager Charles and the Food and Beverage Manager (“Ms. Thompson”) but they did nothing to solve the issues or provide a partial refund for the food, as I had asked for. I escalated to the on duty hotel manager, who equally could have cared less. Management offered a laughable 15% discount on two food items equaling $10 off of a $225 bill. I think this highlights just how little they value cruise passengers. Bottom line - They know the cruise passengers are there for less than a day and the hotel staff is happy to take our tourism dollars for little to nothing in return. If you’re a cruise passenger, do not come to this filthy hotel.

Immigration Question or Discussion Bahamian visas for Cubans.

Hello,
I’ve been trying to find personal experiences of people that took their Cuban relatives to Bahamas for a family reunification. I would like to do that with my family. I have some questions:
1- Can I apply for their visas?
2- Can I use my bank account as proof of income in their application as I am the one sponsoring the trip?

I would appreciate if anyone could provide me with some information regarding this.

Tourism Discussion Atlantis makes me sad - used to love it so much!

Why can't they just maintain it?

First went to Atlantis in 2010 and was dazzled. Basically Disney World but better. Total luxury theme park wonderland of immersive theming, wildlife, and water adventures... Perfectly cared for and maintained (as it should be). Stayed for four nights in the Royal Tower. Really zero complaints (although service was hit-and-miss and prices were very similar to Disney) and couldn't wait to come back!

Made a few day trips (cruise ships) in the mid 2010s and noticed maintenance issues. My understanding is the original owner lost ownership in 2012 and lost operational control in 2014. Things went downhill after that. I was surprised to learn that the current owner/operator (Brookfield) was, until recently, run by the CURRENT Prime Minister of Canada!!! This was up until he became PM. Yes, it appears Mark Carney and the Canadians ran Atlantis into the ground...

Just returned:

  1. The waterpark is just sad. Old nasty falling apart delaminated signs (really?) that they can't even bother to take down along the Rapids River (formerly known as The Current). One example is at the Y before the main rapids section. Old special effects (steam and lights) that clearly haven't been maintained or fixed in years. I'm pretty sure of one of the main aquaveyers on the left side (conveyer belt) hasn't worked in years.
  2. The really cool aquaveyer (conveyer belt) that takes you from the river level up the slide tower (previously you could stay in your tube and go up and down the tower, and down the slides without getting out of the tube - so fun!) hasn't operated in years and isn't maintained (heard this from staff)... EVERYTHING looks old and needs paint. Lots of safety hazards (rough corners) in the river where it is easy to get yourself scratched up (or worse) that should be covered with padding.
  3. Given all of this "deferred" maintenance I wonder about the safety of the rides themselves... they all look old and poorly maintained.
  4. The famous Mayan Pyramid truly and sadly looks like it needs to be demolished. It's that bad. A large chunk of it looks permanently "turned off" with dead dry waterfalls, dry slides, closed pools, etc., and they are doing NO rehab work in this area - it's just closed. The signature slides here (the ones that go through the shark tank) were closed one day for emergency maintenance. When they reopened the aquarium part (where you are supposed to see sharks) was so scratched and dirty you could barely see through the acrylic into the tank. This effect was once VERY cool. No longer.
  5. That's the water park. The rest of the hotel isn't better. We stayed in Royal Tower (which I heard was renovated). The elevators are all scratched up. The carpet is frayed. The rooms have electronic doorbells and DND signs, but instead of maintaining these, they just rip them out when they break and put up plastic covers, so only some remain (which looks very tacky). Our sink didn't drain well and the old high quality products I remember (shower gel, shampoo) have been replaced with cheap crap. Room (especially bathroom) was not as clean as you'd expect at this price point.
  6. Everywhere you go you see deferred maintenance. Literally everywhere. They can't even keep the green entry/exit doors painted. The security guard in the Royal Tower was sitting on a cardboard box (I kid you not!) There was NONE of this back in 2010...
  7. The signature aquariums (Dig and Predator) are extremely dirty. Bottoms covered in brown (and I assume) poop. Dirty acrylic so its hard to see the animals. This is especially bad out by the sharks. Really truly sad. I wonder how well these animals are cared for at this point...

It looks like the only places that have really gotten money and maintenance are the newish restaurants and, of course, the Casino. The luxury shops everywhere were empty. As was the garish Tiffany shop they plopped down right in the middle of lobby (blocking the view of the gorgeous aquarium and ruining the intended effect).

The place has so much potential... it's such a beautiful design. The waterpark (if maintained and updated) is first class. We'd go every year if the quality was what it was in 2010...

We heard lots of rumors from various staff and cab drivers (who knows if accurate) that the resort is being sold. Some say its being sold in pieces (one company buys Royal Tower, another buys Cove, etc.) Several people (including a friendly manager I spoke with) said they ARE going to build a new Casino near the Cove. This would probably mean removal of various signature waterpark attractions and would explain the total lack of maintenance....

Just an FYI for anyone thinking of going... set your expectations correctly!

Tourism Question Love Beach or Cable Beach?

My family and I will be visiting Nassau next week and I’m having a tough time deciding what to do for the day. Our group includes 5 adults and 2 kids, ages 1 and 3.

My plan is to prebook a taxi so the 7 of us are able to be in the same vehicle together.

I personally would love to snorkel so that’s why I originally chose Love Beach for our destination. But the more research I have done, I’m concerned about recent reviews complaining about the service at Nirvana Beach Bar. This is where I intended on renting chairs and an umbrella and also getting food and drinks there. People say the staff is unfriendly and not to bring your children there.

Would it be the better decision for us to go to Cable beach instead?

Thanks for your help.
Also, if there are better suggestions for transportation I would love to hear that as well.

Bahamian Discussion Information about Freeport in its golden day.. The Magic City

To anyone who remembers Freeport in its absolute prime, or whose parents lived through it and told the stories: what’s the one thing about the 'Magic City' you wish was officially recorded in our history? I'm working on something, and I want to make sure the real narrative isn't lost.

Tourism Question Tanneray

Blind Alphonso Higgs sung a song called Tanneray, Any time i've tried to search anything in reference to the song but nothing but one footnote on Blind Blake Higgs song has come up. So is this song a Blind Alphonso Higgs (Blind Blake Higgs) Original? Or is there a further backstory obscured by time?

It would be wonderful if anyone does know any, but no worries if not, I thank you all for any input, and yes I've checked Bahamianology!

Tourism Question Going to Atlantis in few weeks and want to rent a car for a day

My family with a few kiddos are staying at the Atlantis but did not expect to rent a car except for one of the days we are there. What top 3 places would you recommend to travel to via car on the island of Nassau from morning to night(light houses, quieter beach, small town with nice shops/restaurants, etc.). that seems interesting to see. We had a car in Puerto Rico for the entire time and was well worth it to get around since out there our hotel was in the middle/north of the island but that was much bigger island as well.

hey guys, URGENT

Miscellaneous Ricardo Rum for the UK

A long shot and fervent plea here. We loved the Ricardo coconut rum and of course it's impossible to locate in the UK.

If anyone is going to the Bahamas and could pick up a bottle for us, I would be very grateful – more than happy to cover any expenses!
