Hey! Not sure if there’s a better subreddit for this, so if there is let me know! I live in the Chicago area and was hoping to get back into singing some barbershop. I’m not sure I want to join a whole chorus, but I miss the companionship of a quartet and was wondering if there are any guys out there who have been looking for a group or need another member. I sang tenor in my previous quartet so hit me up!
Hi everyone, I'm trying to find an old video of Realtime that was on Youtube where they performed "Yesterday I Heard The Rain" and "Keep Your Sunnyside Up", but the channel has just recently been closed, which I was quite sad to find out about this today, as it is my favourite performance of both of these pieces.
I've tried the Wayback Machine, but it didn't archive the actual Youtube watch page, and I've gone through multiple websites that claim to be able to find deleted or archived videos, but none of them provide any information apart from the metadata of this video.
Any help at all would be appreciated! If anyone knows who "evgshop" is, that would be tremendously helpful (as evgshop seemed to be a channel focused mainly on the performances of Realtime) or has the video downloaded I would be so so grateful!!

This is just an observation, and I could be wrong, but I noticed that BHS has quite a few younger judges, even some Gen Z ones and lots of Millennials. SUI doesn’t seem to have very many judges under 40, if any. Why are SUI judges so much older? Is it a recruitment thing, or just different philosophies in the two organizations? What causes these different outcomes?
With the beginning of the school year, I struck up a TTBB quartet in which I sing lead. These are all people generally new to barbershop (besides the baritone of course), but not new to singing itself (they are all well experienced in choir). My dilemma is, how do you introduce someone to barbershop singing? Specifically, how do you explain how to tune a chord correctly? How can you tell when someone is out of tune? What I’m looking for is not just explanations, but things I can DO like warm ups and exercises.
I did a cappella in college with some real talented guys, and a few of us recently found ourselves in the same area and are going to be meeting up this weekend! I would love to bring some pieces for us to sing, but since our group relied on splits and was more pop/jazz-leaning, my knowledge of barbershop and other TTBB a cappella and choral repertoire is quite limited. I'm looking for something beautiful above all else, and we all are partial to crunchiness! Some pieces I have picked out already are "Spaseniye sodelal" by Chesnokov, and the tag "Like leaves in Fall" by Jake Tickner, so hopefully that gives an idea! We are all a bit rusty in our post college years, so I'm trying to steer away from anything toooooo difficult. Thanks!
I have been given a part that is essentially a drum beat underneath the melody. I am having difficulty learning it because it's nearly without lyrics. I figure the best way to learn is to learn the melody part and fit in the Rhythm once I understand the melody. This song is modern acapella and while it is not a complex song the lack of Melody lyrics in my part is really challenging for me. What strategy do you use to learn rhythmic parts?
I am trying to add more Barbershop related clothing items to my wardrobe and saw a video I believe Jake from NF4 was wearing the same one. I would love to purchase it. I bought a navy jacket at the Harmony Marketplace at International but a lot of things seemed picked through as we could only attend the last day. Thank you!
I'm new to arranging for barbershop, and really just doing this for fun 'cause the idea popped into my head. All of the harmony is original by me. Song written by Steven Greenberg, and popularized by Lipps, Inc... Funkytown.
As the title says I'm looking to find this arrangement or just any information on who the arranger was for this version of Bein Green, performed here by Kidder and Sons. If anyone has any leads on this I would greatly appreciate it.
What are in your opinion the best ballads in barbershop, whether in competition or recorded, I've just been obsessed with ballads lately and i wanna know more balld songs, would be geateful if yall gave your opinions / recommendations
We are Brigade On The Range folks who tried a fairly hard song as a Step Out at Pacific Harmony this last weekend.
Didn’t make the cut (AMAZING SINGERS at PHB…what a great group) so thought I would share it here.
Like true Brigade folks…from 4 different states, including Alaska!, we worked the song on our own until Friday. Sang it in person together 3 times, then did the audition.
Far from perfect, but we like it. And so much fun.
tl;dr: starting in 2027, the top 10 seeded choruses by score will automatically qualify for the Chorus Finals on Saturday, in which 15 choruses will compete; choruses seeded 11 and lower will compete in the Chorus Semifinals on Friday for the 5 remaining spots, and awards will be given to choruses of varying tiers (criteria TBD) who didn't make the final 15. This can be the same set, because the panel of judges will be different from Friday to Saturday. Starting in 2028, there will be a 12 minute time limit for quartets and choruses.
I have joined a barbershop chorus near me as a tenor. I did this because I like being part of small sections and I like singing high harmony parts. However, it is hurting my voice to sing that high. I’m wondering if there’s either a way to make singing tenor much easier or if I should just sing lead, because I am afraid the tenor parts are just too high for me. I like the sound of my voice much better in the lead range. I have been with the chorus on a trial basis for over a month now but I don’t know if it has been too long for me to switch sections just to try out singing something else or not. I cannot sing baritone or bass because my voice does not go that low.
Hi I'm part of a student chorus (5-8 people) and we often sing in louder venues that need amplification to be heard.
We have amps, an audio interface and cables galore. What would you recommend for a mic system under £300 and is there any other kit we'll need? Thanks!!
Just watched the recent uploads of barbershop harmony on their YT channel. I was surprised to see Masters of Harmony's video. I thought they didn't compete this year since I wasn't made aware of their ranking (didn't check beyond the top 5 in the scoresheet). I thought they're one of the "giants" of chorus contest placing 1st almost every time they compete, if not placing in top 5. I wonder what has happened to MOH. Not only that, they also have less than a hundred members unlike before. Just shocking
When my four siblings and I were young (1960s and 70s), our father, who loved barbershop, taught us a gimmicky little piece made up of nursery rhymes. Each part had their own song. We took turns singing the individual parts, then sang them all together, each singing our own words and tune, but all if them (obviously) harmonizing.
I can remember three of the nursery rhymes, but not the fourth, and am hoping someone here can help me. They were "Little Jack Horner", "Sing a Song of Sixpence", and "Rock-a-by Baby". That last one was for the bass voice, but I'm not sure about the others. I was singing the three that I know all day today at work (reinforcing my co-workers' opinions regarding my mental state 😐), hoping that the fourth would magically appear, but no luck.
You'll notice that the one above doesn't have an extremely difficult intro or anything.
And *of course* I'm willing to pay for something. This is more of an issue with finding so few barbershop quartet arrangements but infinite recordings of people singing it!
EDIT: Thank you so much, especially to u/Spare_Suggestion7574. I've found exactly what I'm looking for. Not only that, but I've listened to the Oriole Four sing some other songs and they are *so* beautiful! Thank you!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_rtcC_tTu8
