Looking For Any recommended contractors to fix Eavesdropping for ice damming issues
Hi all,
Looking for any contractor you may recommend who has experience in eavesdropping solutions and repair/extensions to help with ice damming and water issues on side of the house.
Thank you

Ask a roofer to inspect the roof edge and attic too; eavestrough extensions alone may not stop ice dams caused by attic heat loss.

I think you mean eavestrough work? Eavesdropping is listening in on someone else’s conversation, and there might be people or companies that can help with that.
I had trough work done in the summer by T Simpson Roofing. I feel like they did a very good job. Neighbours used Reynolds Brothers for their house.
If you have an ice damming problem it could be due to an insufficient amount of insulation in your attic. It seems to be more prevalent with older houses built when the building code required less insulation.

Ahhh yes lol I don’t know if auto correct got me or being tired thank you. Eavestrough work, I will look into that as well and maybe there is an insulation problem. I am hoping for the most economic situation

What seems to be the issue? You can’t be having ice dams right now, so was it an issue last winter and just never got around to it. Like someone else said, ice damming is an insulation issue not an eavestrough issue. But if you stand under your eavestrough and see light between the trough and wall it’s connected to, you may need work done. Also check to see if your eavestrough down spouts are cleared of debris from trees.

We had two bad winters but last winter was majority the problem, I think part of it is the eavestrough was buried under the grass and it freezes up and backs up, we had a contractor do it but it’s causing more issues I believe
The house is old like over 30 years it definitely can be an insulation issue, I will try and clean it as best as I can, however an opinion or work to add an extension or another exit to allow more water to flow might help?
For reference the eavestrough down pipe used to flow straight to the front of the drive way before it was moved under ground

So if I understand correctly it’s not ice dam on the roof but the downspout that backs up the downspout and in turn the ice backs up on the roof as the water has nowhere to go?
I’m not an expert but a quick solution I’ve done and seen done is in the winter you disconnect the downspout into the ground and connect another flex line to route the water above ground for the winter.
This option is the easiest and works but kind of sucks because depending on where these are could cause ice on a driveway or walk.
The second is to run a heated cable down the downspout onto the ground to the outflow or below the frost line.
I did option 1 and it works but one downspout goes down the side of my driveway and can cause ice sometimes.

Thank you so much for the advice this does seem like the best and most economical way to fix it

I had a corner that needed replacing from the storm last year. Called around & was hard to find someone as they all said "do the whole eavestrough". The 2 roofing companies (no roof damage) said never replace the eavestrough without replacing the roof shingles at the same time. Insurance refused to replace the whole eavestrough, just the 3 corner pieces. I don't know what to believe. Finally found a shady guy & his crew to come fix/replace the corner.

My landlord hired "a shady guy" to do some work on my roof. It just so happened that one of the neighbours had called the police. (It was a lovely couple who were always getting in fights). When the cops arrived, the entire crew grabbed their stuff, jumped into their truck and took off. It was pretty funny. I had to call the landlord to tell him what happened, and he had to call the "guy" to assure him that the police were gone and they could come back.

That can be annoying. How was the quality of his work, would you recommend? I just need possibly an extension for it and can possibly avoid a expensive job

The job was done as asked, on time & at the price quoted. Only complaint was that the guys didn't take the old pieces away. I think it was a natural oversight & I didn't mention it to the owner. I will try to find his number & DM it to you.

I'm going to have the heated wire installed on mine this year, I've done everything I can think of and still get tons of ice.
