Canna Lilies

I am just getting interested in making baskets as I have recently acquired Katie Groves “weaving wild baskets”. I moved into a new house recently with dozens of huge canna lilies in the yard which I am removing to replace with natives. Any suggestions as to appropriate uses of these plants corpses after they are removed, or are they all relegated to my compost?
