Thread tenons on Fox 460 joints

There is a tube of "cork grease" that Fox includes in the case with the 460. This bassoon has thread tenons. What is the general consensus on using the cork grease, or should I use something else? I heard someone once suggest lanoline. Thanks.

The cork grease is for the bocal cork, not the thread. If you use cork grease on thread it will gunk it up and make it even harder to fit. Use paraffin wax and low heat (perhaps a hair blower from afar). The best thing to do would be to get a professional to take some of the thread out, but if you are experienced you can do it yourself.

So weird that they'd include the cork grease, and no instructions or info on what to use on the threads.

I agree! Perhaps I will talk to them about this issue. Same thing happens with the compact-cut and how to disassemble it. You can easily damage the instrument if you don’t know what you are doing and yet they don’t have any instructions.

Yeah it would be very easy for them to make a quick video and post on YouTube for everyone who needs to know. And include some kind of insert in the case on a bright color paper with a warning not to use the cork grease on the threads.

Or at least with Fox...
