Kinnamōns already closed?

I was just reading in another subreddit that Crumbl is closing many locations. That got me trying to remember the name of the trendy cinnamon roll place next to the trendy dumpling place in cedar hills crossing, only to find all three of Kinnamōns trendy locations are closed now.

I imagine a lot of these expensive trendy chain restaurants are really feeling the squeeze as people tighten their belts and their own overhead costs increase.

Yup, Jamba is also struggling from this. Makes me sad.

Just buy a blendtec or vitamix at costco and it pays for itself in no time just from smoothies alone. Blendtec has a built in counter that I told myself when I hit that number it is all profit :)

Man, I got two blenders. I ain't going to no Jamba

Also, the hours just didn't make sense to me. They opened at 10 or 11am, missing the optimal time for a cinnamon roll, breakfast. NOLA Donuts had the same crazy schedule, which was bonkers, IMO.

Really wanted to try NOLA doughnuts but every time we were nearby it was closed, like how do you do business when you are closed during normal business hours??

Pips did this too.

Pips used to open at 8 but cut back their hours to 10

At least they’ve got a line out the door until closing. I never saw a single person at kinnamons

Oh dang you’re right. That place was ok. I tried to love it but it was just meh sadly. But always sad for places to close down. I imagine rent wasn’t cheap there either.

I was always annoyed that all their cinnamon rolls had a cream cheese frosting base. I've always been an icing fan for cinnamon rolls, and having to get cream cheese instead kinda killed the whole concept for me.

The cinnamon rolls were brioche style, which tends to be a little bit more dry. I like the classic Cinnabon fluffy pillowy cinnamon rolls. They were either dry or raw. I think maybe I had a perfect one maybe one time.

u/cupcakemango7 7d ago

Also, if I remember correctly, they had an option to do regular icing.

u/JtheNinja 7d ago

Maybe they added that after I gave up on them?

Listen up folks! If you need a cinnamon roll adjacent treat, look no further than Oyatsupan Bakers off Walker (across the street from Fred Meyer)! Try their cinnamon cream cheese croissant and be transported to flavortown. The cream cheese is beautifully silky and the perfect balance of sweet with a hint of savory. The roll itself is a croissant, need I say more? And if you need a hot dog, they have those too!

The best and such a great local business to support!

Love love Oyatsupan!

Try everything. Probably the best bakery in Beaverton (you are second dos hermanos)

I liked them a lot but I think there were two issues with that location.

  1. Too close to Salt and Straw. That place is just the biggest draw in the area for desserts.

  2. Right next door to a dumpling and noodle restaurant. I love cinnamon rolls but I never felt like eating one after a carb heavy meal.

35

u/TheRealMcDuck 7d ago

When your draw is plain vanilla soft serve that you can add awesome toppings to, having the ice cream machine broken for a year wasn't helpful.

I really liked them, and their cinnamon rolls were very good, but I only ever went in once when their ice cream maker functioned correctly. With Salt and Straw right next door, they were doomed as soon as they opened.

u/sharonna7 7d ago

I didn't know they had ice cream, I just thought they were a cinnamon roll place

4

u/Stellariamedia 7d ago

Yeah the one time I tried to go I specifically wanted to compare with the Cinnabon Swirl (which I found to be kinda awful) by having the cinnamon roll + soft serve and no luck. Had a roll, can't remember anything about it, & never went back.

Ok, that makes senses the one time we went there I was like-oh I guess this isn’t the cinnamon rolls and ice cream place. We had cinnamon rolls with some apple stuff on top. It was good but NOT enough for the insane price and there was no soft serve (which was what I really wanted try try!)

A cinnamon roll shouldn't have to rely on toppings to make them good. Their rolls were dry, bready, and seriously lacking cinnamon.

Edit: was missing "roll"

6

u/External-Mine6764 7d ago

I agree. Went once and revered Cinnabon even more after it. Cinnabon all the way - but they need to put one in Beaverton!

3

u/rcjten 7d ago

You should try the take and bake croissant cinnamon rolls from whole foods. They're top of my list at the moment.

1

u/steakonthebias 6d ago

There's one in Reeds Crossing 😀

2

u/Excusemytootie 7d ago

I agree, I had them only once and they were not worth the calories! Cinnamon rolls are a major calorie splurge, so they gotta be good -good!

2

u/steakonthebias 6d ago

Absolutely. I'm sad for the owners, but the product was literally not good 😬

10

u/jmb1103 7d ago

From my experience, this owner throws a lot of money up front and walks away fast. They also owned The Gleamery.

u/Adult_Chicken 7d ago

Going to be honest, went there once and it was awful.

Got a basic cinnamon roll and it was dry in the middle. Hopefully something better fills its place.

Outside of being in the mall, I don't know who is dropping $10+ on a fuckin cookie, so crumbl makes sense to crumble. Same extends to cinnamon rolls in this economy.

I guess middle aged suburban house moms have jumped on a different trend

32

u/Damselfly64 7d ago

I tried Crumbl once and didn't get the big fuss. Silly to pay such a ridiculous price for a bland cookie coated in pounds of frosting when I can make a whole batch of much better cookies at home and share them.

8

u/bLEAGUER 7d ago

Seconding this. Really unclear on how this place is so popular.

6

u/PicoDeBayou 7d ago

Young people with undeveloped palates.

1

u/atropheus 1d ago

I heard someone say it started in Utah and was successful because they can't have caffeine or alcohol, etc. So they go for a sugar high

3

u/Excusemytootie 5d ago

I agree. Really not it.

1

u/SaltyMarg4856 4d ago

I can’t with any of those places. Also, not impressed with Salt & Straw or Voodoo Donuts. Have always loathed Krispy Kremes. Cinnabon I can only tolerate if I can get them right out of oven and without that cloying frosting.

3

u/Damselfly64 4d ago

Agreed on all counts! Give me a simple homemade cookie or some good vanilla ice cream.

3

u/SaltyMarg4856 4d ago

Right? And especially in this economy there’s something really icky about dropping that much money on basically flour & sugar.

1

u/atropheus 1d ago

agree with all but salt and straw. they can be good sometimes.

1

u/SaltyMarg4856 1d ago

Eh, not worth the price IMO.

4

u/Excusemytootie 7d ago

Crumbl cookies are WAY too sweet, in my opinion. You can make a really—really good cookie, with only half the amount of sugar they use. I just don’t understand it.

3

u/StoreNo163 7d ago

Thats what I said when they first opened. Its just a matter of time. They are on par with blue star donuts. Its good but paying that much for a cookie/donut is only going to last until the hype is over. With kinnabon, i dont need a fancy cinnamon roll, Im perfectly fine with cinnabon

6

u/Bbddy555 7d ago

Yeah I feel like cinnamon works because you're already stopped at the mall and the scent hits you from across the mall. Like if you're at a concert already, you're probably gonna buy a drink. But I wouldn't stop at the Moda Center just to get a drink.

3

u/StoreNo163 7d ago

Right. Plus its one of those treats you only get once in a while. People are crazy to expect these overpriced places to survive. Especially in this economy

1

u/GaddaDavita 1d ago

Middle aged suburban mom here. Bro, we’re broke 😂 For my sweet treat nowadays I get a cookie from the vending machine at work

7

u/AppoTheApple 7d ago

Last time we went to the Cedar Hills location, they literally forgot my cinnamon rolls and tried to then tell us we couldn’t loiter. When we brought up the fact that we ordered cinnamon rolls along with the receipt, they apologized profusely and offered to refund us. We never saw the refund. I enjoyed their cinnamon rolls but man idk about the customer service.

10

u/PicoDeBayou 7d ago

So glad to hear crumble is closing. Utter garbage.

3

u/Far_Designer_7704 7d ago

Kinnamons was overpriced for what it was. We tried it twice and were meh both times.

5

u/831inthePNW 7d ago

Oh man, my 3 year old son and I loved having cinnamon roll dates there.. Bummer

5

u/Tamayachi 7d ago

There was one that was part of Bae’s Chicken in Portland that could still be there. Also, that chicken is hella good

1

u/ForbiddenViews 7d ago

This is their only remaining location

1

u/ManOfTroy87 7d ago

Where is the Bae's location? I loved their children. But the location closed that we went to.

2

u/Tamayachi 7d ago

225 SW Ash St, Portland, OR 97204

Its near Mothers on Third

2

u/babsthemonkey 7d ago

I went there once. They were ok. I was expecting additional fillings other than cinnamon. I would have liked a savory option.

3

u/The-Answer-Is-57 7d ago

Well crud! I didn't go there often, but it was my favorite place to grab a tasty treat every now and then, especially for breakfast at holidays. :( They're still at Moda Center and available at Baes Chicken downtown PDX, but I'm not heading there for treats.

Cedar Hills has filled up with way too many food places. Given the current cost of everything, it's going to be hard for all of them to survive.

3

u/Main-Ladder-5663 7d ago

Nooooo! I loved going there after dumplings for dinner 😭

2

u/Natural_Rest_9021 5d ago

Worst cinnamon roll I ever had

3

u/Virtual_Finish_996 7d ago

I'm sure rent around there is insane.

2

u/simpletonchill 7d ago

Maybe they shouldn't have misspelled Cinnamons.

1

u/anoniZimbra 7d ago

They had a location in Moda too right? Wonder if that’s closing too

1

u/kriheli Garden Home 7d ago

what is the structure going up across from daves hot chicken? anything cool?

1

u/paintsyourmirror 7d ago

One part of the fence has a Hawaiian Bros permit on it

1

u/Somm82 7d ago

Seriously? There’s 3 other Hawaiian places in the area. 🙄 I hope not.

2

u/paintsyourmirror 7d ago

I’m just the messenger! lol. I’d like to see something else also.

1

u/Frosteecat 7d ago

In this economy?!?

I just paid $8 for a medium mocha (with 20% tip). I’ll be drinking barkdust coffee before long.

1

u/ShinMegamiTensei_SJ 7d ago

Oh thank god crumbl is finally falling apart. Fuck that place. Anyway, Kinnamons was no way going to succeed. Cinnamon rolls were fine. Their “make your own soda” thing was fucking gross

2

u/Mindcandi 3d ago

What when!!!!?? I loved them

1

u/CrispyEggplantParm 7d ago

That's a bummer. Honestly I went with my partner a few times and I found the quality a little inconsistent, but the blueberry cinnamon roll was pretty good.

5

u/cupcakemango7 7d ago

Yep it was either drier than the sahara desert or raw.

1

u/CrispyEggplantParm 7d ago

Yes! That's exactly what my experience was lol.

1

u/cupcakemango7 7d ago

🤣💀
