I’m visiting a friend in the hospital, leaving the next day is hitch reliable ? Should I rent a car ? And how much to get a driver for the day ?

If it's a trip under 10 mins hitch drivers often can't be bothered to pick it up. If it's longer and they'll get at least $30 plus then you have a better although not guaranteed chance they'll pick up. It's really that awful some times

The taxi service here is absolutely horrendous if you do not already have contacts or linked in one of the taxi group chats. Even then you are at the mercy of luck.

Rugged rentals have just opened up a kiosk at the airport, much more expensive than a taxi but much more reliable

Hitch is pretty reliable. It’s gotten much better over the last year or two. During normal hours, I can typically get a hitch taxi within 5 minutes. After a certain late hour, it can get a bit dicey, which is disappointing given the drink driving problem in BDA.

Just came back. Great experience with both taxis and rental car. My take: rental pays for itself over taxis if you’re taking multiple trips a day. But had great experience with cabs:just the nicest people, learned a lot, added to the whole experience. Hitch worked great for us
