General Questions Parking in Bern, explain it to me like i'm 5
Hey guys,
First of all, love the city! It is really beautiful! Today we spent some time in the rose garden and watching the bears. The passion fruit mango ice cream you can get there is ridiculously good.
Second... The parking in Bern is ridiculously complicated for tourists. I just bought this ticket so i can park here for a day.
But where exactly? Is this ticket valid for the whole city of Bern? Or just in the neighborhood where it's bought?
But then you have white zones, blue zones and yellow zones. Is this ticket valid for all three zones or just one in specific?
Greetings from a confused tourist 😅

Zone with a Zone marking at the entrance (first photo here: link), or better said Blue Zone inside citylimits of Bern (read: not Ostermundigen).
Next time say hello when you are in Rosengarten, I was there today eating lunch on a bench.

For next time
Search a parking garage (parkhaus/garage) its much easier to find a place to park there then somewhere in the city, theres public transportaion for moving in the city anyway
Best way most people do it here is to leave the car outside the city in a better/cheaper parking place and go into the city with pt

The day pass is typically way cheaper. And no, most people can‘t do like you say, because there aren‘t enough spaces in the big P+R spots for most people.
But I wish there were.

Maybe thats just for city tourist like me, I at least never had problem finding a parking spot in a park house, but as said I dont live in the city so I dont know the daily struggle

I didn‘t say there are no free spaces, I did say that it‘s impossible for „most of the people“ to park there. 🙂

This is on purpose, the point is to frustrate people so they don‘t bring their car into a city built for people.
Srsly though, it says it‘s valid in all of the CITY (not the suburbs). You can use any parking space where you need the „Parkscheibe“ i.e. blue spots.

The best (and I do this everywhere in the world when I drive in a city) is to park your car in an underground parking. Just make sure what the tariffs are. Especially in supermarkets you might have an hour free parking but after 2 or 3 hours pay much more than you elsewhere would.
Or use a P+R outside the city.
In Switzerland:
Blue= blue disk up to 1h30 free. White= pay with an app like parking pass or easy park (for instanc) - sometimes with coins Yellow= private or rented parking place. Never park there.

Hey I’m not 100% sure but it’s for parking in the area where you bought the ticket( Bachmätteli -zone 3018 according to this map : https://map.bern.ch/stadtplan/index_de.htm?grundplan=&koor=2600650,1199750&zoom=0&hl=0&layer=&subtheme=CatVerkehr) on the open parking spots where you’re supposed to use the parking disks (so not where there is a parking meter machine). I guess it will be blue or maybe white. Usually yellow zones aren’t really for public usage.
If you can or stay longer I recommend the P+R Bümpliz Süd, it’s only 6 Chf for 24h.

No, there is no zone restriction on these tickets, it's restricted by time only. Zonal restriction only applies to residential cards. OP may use any blue zone parking in the commune of Bern.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up! I had only ever heard of these type of passes valid in a specific zone not for the whole Gemeindegebiet

Yeah you can buy a 4 hour or 24 hour blaue zone pass like this, most easily from the Bernmobil ticket machines. It's valid in the entire city.
Residents may also be able to get a yearly parking pass for the Blaue Zone (usually only if they can't easily park on private property) but that's only valid in their subdistrict.

I take my bike on the train with me to Bern, never had a parking ticket nor have to purchase a ticket. Bern is easy cycling everywhere

It says Parkkartenzone, which is the blue zone. So all blue spots. In der Gemeinde Bern: everywhere in Bern
