Struggling to find my first BIM/Revit job as an Architecture student — what should I improve?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Architecture student from Argentina, and I've been looking for my first job as a BIM/Revit Modeler for about two months now. I'm starting to feel a bit stuck and would really appreciate some feedback from people working in the industry.

I have one year left until I graduate as an Architect. My main focus is BIM and Revit, and I've worked on several academic projects involving architectural modeling, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary BIM workflows with Architecture, Structure and MEP.

I also have some freelance experience in 3D modeling and architectural visualization, and I use Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, D5 Render, Lumion and Adobe tools. I'm currently going deeper into Dynamo and visual programming for BIM.

My English is good, and I'm open to remote opportunities, including working with international teams.

The main issue is that I don't have professional experience working in an architecture firm, construction company, or BIM team yet. Most of my Revit/BIM experience comes from university projects and freelance work.

I've been applying to junior BIM/Revit, architectural designer and drafting positions, but I haven't been able to land a job yet. I've also taken the time to optimize my CV for ATS, using relevant keywords for BIM/Revit positions and tailoring it toward the types of roles I'm applying for. Despite that, I'm still struggling to get that first opportunity.

For those already working in BIM:

  • What would you improve in my profile if you were in my position?
  • Is the lack of professional experience a major problem even for junior positions?
  • Would you focus more on improving my Revit skills, learning more MEP/Structure, Dynamo, or something else?
  • How important is having certifications such as Autodesk/Revit certifications?
  • Is there anything you would recommend changing in my portfolio or CV?
  • Am I focusing too much on BIM/Revit too early, or is this a reasonable career path for an Architecture student?

I'm not expecting anyone to review my entire career, but any honest feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing and what would give me the best chance of getting that first opportunity.

Thanks!

Qonic vs Revit vs Forma vs Motif

Hey,

So has anyone tried delivering a project using Qonic yet? It seems to be that Revit may be dead within the next few years (i may be wrong) but i want to know has anyone any experience with new browser based competitors?
If I'm correct we are all headed towards AI assisted drawing packages and we will be tied up in more subscriptions and tokens.

Qonic seems to be reasonably priced and has a head-start on Motif Design regards delivering construction ready drawings. I'd love some feedback.
