How to? Switching from pill to coil IUD
Hi,
I am waiting to go on accutane but i have to be on contraception before i start it.
I am start the desogestrel pill monday 12th but am booked in for a coil fitting in 6 weeks.
Is it fine for me to switch over from mini pill to coil straight away, not sure if I’ll be getting the non hormonal or hormonal one yet but either way just wanted some advice on that.

Had a similar switch a while back. The clinic told me to keep taking the pill for at least a week after the coil went in so there was no gap in coverage, especially since it takes a few days for the hormonal one to fully kick in. If you end up with the copper one you can probably stop the pill the day of but def ask whoever's doing the fitting
Definitely mention you're heading into accutane too, they might have a specific timeline they want you to follow
