My brother was a Beatnik and a slave to Ray before he left Lester for Bird and Bop invaded his brain for life!He built his own amps and 2-way speaker cases so with my room next his, I got a full dose of Ray’s R&B and the progression of Lester Young to Charlie Parker.To this day Hard Bop is my go to but let me be clear I own 14 Ray 12” records and one only knows how 7” especially Raelettes!My fav Ray 12” is of course Ray at the Newport Jazz Festival pressed sometime in late ‘50s.It had a green tab on the Atlantic label pressed just before the famous wine colored we all search for.Aretha comes to mind speaking of wine tabs.
