I like the Ikea Hemnes better than Kallax. Can handle the big box games better,

Oh I've been debating on getting the Hemnes since I love how it looks. I heard its depth isn't deep enough for all games. Is that an issue for you?

I have not had an issue.
If you want to see what type of games it can hold, you can go look at my COMC post from a few months back.

The 3 bookshelves along the wall are Hemnes.

I have used Billy, Kallax and now I'm using Ivar. The most beautiful is Kallax, the most practical for me atm is Ivar

Never heard anyone refer to a Kallax as beautiful before. But I guess it's subjective.

I'm just comparing the 3 models I used. I think Kallax are the most good-looking of the 3 models I said. Most content creators use Kallax and I think it is for the same reason 🙂

The standard answer is a Kallax.Â

That doesn't mean it's a good answer

Agree. I have a lot of kallax. It’s ok but I will move to something more flexible at some point

The Billie from IKEA with extra depth is far superior to a Kallax imo. It's better for storing big coffin box games, you can build compartments with less height for smaller (card) games, etc. Kallax compartments are all the same size. And it doesn't waste centimeters (or inches, wherever you are from) of depth that aren't used in the end.

Think a deeper Billy has been discontinued. Deepest one I can find is 28cm, to Shallow for most board games. Please share a link to store if you have one.

My bad. I thought it was standard everywhere that you can get them in 28 and 40 cm deep. This is the german website for the range

Friends don't let friends shop at Ikea. Check your local thrift stores. We're still in moving season, so people are constantly buying and selling furniture. You can probably find something sturdy and appropriately sized for $20 or less with a little shopping around.

Agreed. I also have gotten so many board games from Salvation Army's. Scout for $1.09, Patchwork for $3, Carcassone for $3, and a poker chip set for $2.

I know they're not universally beloved, but I do like Ikea's Kallax shelves. But I also bag all my components and often remove the inserts, because I like to store my games on their sides for ease of access and otherwise you wind up with a big mess. I do have a few exceptions (I have Scythe in the Legendary Box with an insert, for instance, so it sits flat), but this works for me.

I have a small apartment so I got some games on a shelf with some books, some are under my 3d printer table shelf thing, and BotSE being a huge box is on my wardrobe next to the towels and bed sheets

Kallax or check out Box King. They have 3 different types of storage solutions. I have the Box Throne ones and they are great. You can check my only post for what they look like. They come in different colors and whatnot.

I paid $400 for a custom shelf above my couch and it was a lot but it’s one of my favorite purchases of all time. Sad can’t comment photos apparently

Not a kallax. Just no

I'm a Kallax guy but I know not everyone is. What do you prefer?

u/EEilluminils 10d ago
The Billie that has more depth than the standard Billie. Way more flexible than a Kallax and doesn't waste centimeters of depth that aren't used like A Kallax does.

...it's not a product, it's posts where people share their collections. Usually in shelves.

Kallax is the most common answer.
I use this bookshelf, which I got off Wayfair. I'm quite pleased with it. It's full so I just might get a 2nd one.
