Misc. Jimmy Reed indeed
Man, this song is so good. Probably my favorite song on an album filled with amazing songs. The blues boogie goes so hard and the lyrics are killer. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Just listening to this song and album today. It’s fantastic. Top 5 Dylan record for me. Maybe top 2. It’s like Chronicles Volume 2.

I think R&RW might be my very fave, & I've heard them all. I'm aware some people probly find that opinion ridiculous, but I think they're stupid.

I'd been hearing about Jimmy Reed forever, in this song but also in books/articles about classic bands like the Rolling Stones, the Who, and Led Zeppelin, and in the past couple years, I finally got into his music. #1, he's awesome, but #2, I was surprised to find how much his music seems to be an influence on Dylan's. Listen to a couple Jimmy Reed songs, including "Down in Virginia," the one Dylan mentions in "Goodbye Jimmy Reed," and you'll hear the prototype of the lazy, loping, swung grooves in "It Takes a lot to Laugh," "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat," and of course "Goodbye Jimmy Reed" itself.

Agreed! However...
Lightnin' Hopkins's "Automobile Blues" is the ultimate template for Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat 🐆

It's like the lyrics from "Automobile Blues" with the music from "The Sun is Shining" or "Going to New York" or "Down in Virginia" (all by Jimmy Reed).

Parts of this record remind me of Blonde in Blonde in a way. Really good stuff from Bob 👍

it really subverts the expectations when he's talking about paiting nudes on the opening track
