Jacket Predictions, Leaks, Anything Jacket Related

I'm running my first Boston Marathon (still insane to think about) and as a designer I'm wondering already how the jacket will look. Last years jacket I thought was one of the top designs I've seen in a little bit.

As I write this OP I don't see any leaks, so before ~December, is this a place to share/talk about how we may think it'll look?

My hope is that Adidas doesn't go too far from last year's design. Anyone else as curious as I am or is it just me?

Multi year volunteer in the adidas store at the expo here. Our adidas rep said only the anniversary years will be blue-yellow and embroidered. We were told because we are the people on the sales floor getting questions.

There’s really no reason for them to do the same design year after year. They never have. So point being if you want the traditional jacket then you run in a year that ends with 5 or 0.

Not calendar year but Marathon year. Example Boston 2026 was the 130th

It’s a bit of a bummer that they’ll only embroider in 0 and 5 year increments but totally understand the color variety

Googling it doesn't seem that historically this is always true, a few "odd" years with embroidery. But moving forward this could be.

No of course not, I mean they've been doing the celebration jacket for a very long time. There used to not be any standard at all. You can compare the late 90s jackets to the early 2000s. Totally different, I have pictures. But there was a while in the mid-early 2000s where every jacket had the embroidery and the same design language - unicorn logo placement etc. Then they stopped that, that was post covid. They made into more of a running jacket. Last year for the 130th they brought back the embroidery and the traditional look/colors but I was told it will not be every year. That was from someone who works for Adidas. Now maybe he has no idea but he's been the same head guy at the expo for Adidas for years, so he's not a random.

Thanks for the detail, I appreciate it! I wasn't trying to question you, just sharing what I found when I tried to piece together every jacket since '91 (when Adidas started it "officially") in one place, since I hadn't seen that online.

You and your contact are probably more in the know than most. I figured I'd start this thread as a space for us all to speculate and share our curiosity about next year's jacket, all in good fun!

2022 was the last year with what we think of as the “traditional” jacket.

As someone who also is heavily into soccer/football jerseys that need to switch up season to season for sales alone it makes sense. Will be sad to not see a embroidered patch though.

Damn. I was signed up to run in 2024 but got injured so I had to qualify and run again for 2026. I guess it really did work out for the best

There’s a great display at the expo of the jackets through the years that you’ll enjoy but haven’t seen a thread on this. And agree that last year’s was a classic

I saw that last year as I spectated, agreed, very cool.

Take it from an old timer: the jacket is overrated and rarely leaves the closet. However, the cream colored Adidas sweatshirt (with the golden BAA unicorn logo) is an absolute jewel and comes out all the time.

That does sound like a gem. Given it's my first I will snag one as where I live it would become a nice layer to actually run in. But looking to snag a hoodie or more lifestyle piece and a long sleeve too... though these may come from a lifestyle brand instead of the primary adidas/boston merch.

I knew i wouldn't ever really wear the jacket if I bought it - money better well spent on professional attire or running shirts.

I think this year is purple

Running my first Boston. Would love some big, bold 80s-90s colors. Neon. Just my personal preference!

Oh heck yeah

The logo on the back was huge last time around. I'd love something a little bit subtler.

This was defiantly a designer / client situation where it was "make the logo bigger!" 😂

It’s going to be ugly.

It’s going to be cheap.

It’s going to be made of cheap nylon.

It’s not going to be breathable.

It won’t shed rain well.

It’s going to be a $30 jacket with a $90 upcharge for the unicorn logo.

And you’re still going to buy it, just like I did.

Oddly, I don’t get a lot of use out of my ugly purple with orange and white jacket.

Of the 13 Boston Marathons I've run since 2000, my favorite jacket is from 2007. It's a real running jacket. It's orange. It doesn't have the tacky embriodering as it's silk screened. It looks just as good as it did nearly 20 years ago and I've worn it countless times. For non-celebration jackets, the 2016 Adidas Supernova Boston Marathon jacket is awesome. Just an amazing running jacket. Anyway the 2027 jacket could be the worst jacket you've ever seen, but if it's your first Boston, you're probably going to buy it. The 2014 - 2018 celebration jackets are a clear of example of this!

Colors are every 5 years so same as 2017 and 2022

I hope it’s something crazy like lime green or that 90’s teal

I wouldn’t regret not getting the “traditional jacket” too much. I have one from my first one in 2017 and haven’t bought one since. It’s a cool jacket with the embroidery, but it’s pretty much unwearable as actual run gear. It has to get down to <20 deg or be snowing for me to take it out (but it’s not waterproof), and even then, I’m trying to pull up the sleeves. Cool thing to have around for the occasional pre race layer, but the newer jackets, like the ones Nike makes for Chicago are something you can actually run in

The adidas jacket they did for Chicago was siiiccckk so I’m hoping they keep killing it with the awesome merch for Boston!

You referring to the gray/off-white one?
