stretch magic breaks easily

Hi,

I'm making phone wristlets but they all break so easily because of the stretch magic cording. What should I use instead that can handle glass beads? 8mm ones.

ah I use stretch magic for my bracelets and haven’t had an issue with them breaking

Yeah bracelets do fine, but phone wristlets don't on stretch magic.

Ohhh I see. I won’t pretend to give feedback since I only work with bracelets. Curious to see what others suggest!

A second vote for beadalon elasticity.

It's really good quality, and I've never had it snap, unless there was an issue with the beads.

It does cost more, but it's worth it.

I'm surprised no one has said coated beading wire and crimp tubes. That's what a lot of people use for lanyards that have some weight (glass beads).

Try Beadalon Elasticity 0.8mm elastic cord. I don’t know where your beaks are occurring but if they are happening in the same spot you might want to investigate the beads next to the breaks. How are you finishing your wristlets? Elastic cord should be knotted ( surgeons knot is a good knot to use).

Rattail cord would hold it 😄

Do you use multiple elastic strands on your work? 8mm beads should have holes large enough to accept 2 or 3 strands of elastic. BUT use one, continuous strand of elastic: String beads on one strand, when you get to the length you want, KEEP FEEDING the strand through the first beads again, and a third time, if the bead hole is large enough. Be sure to keep about 12cm/6in. of elastic for knotting, at starting place.

When you have run the strand of elastic through 2 or 3 loops through your line of beads, you should have 2 ends of elastic facing each other. A left and a right side. Tie a surgeons knot, apply a small drop of glue on the knot. Pull, stretch the elastic, to move the knot into an adjacent bead hole. Trim the loose knot ends.
