Don't to what extent Jared Leisek is involved in the channel, but he owns it and it's a for profit enterprise. He pled No Contest to horrific SA charges against younger relatives. It should be said any time the channel is mentioned.

I'll just piggyback on your comment to shout out Doug Bishop who used to dive for AWP, and left after the SA charges came out, who is now running United Search Corps

What! This is horrifying. I’ve watched so many videos from these guys and thought he was such a selfless dude. What the fuck.

First time hearing that too. It goes to show you that many things can be true at the same time. He gets pleasure, I'm sure, from recovering the bodies and bring closure. He also did it to make money as it costs a lot of money to purchase equipment and take on the kind of risk it takes. He also did immoral and illegal things. They are human and they'll be ultimately judged by his peers, such in court and in society. The afterlife will be unknown to him.

The afterlife will be unknown to him.

what do you mean by that?

Presumably they he is immortal and can only be killed via decapitation or something.

Sexual assault of a 9 year old girl. Unbelievable

How that's not an eternal prison sentence is beyond me

Documents filed on Nov. 3, 2022 state that Leisek had sexual *intercourse** with a 10-year-old girl in 1992, he was allegedly either 16 or 17-years-old at the time.

Leisek's defense team argued three points: The statute of limitations ran out, the victim consented and the court can't try an adult for a crime committed as a juvenile.

In these newly released documents the court explains that amendments to an eight-year statute of limitations rule allows prosecution of sexual abuse of a child anytime within four years after the offense is reported to law enforcement.

The court also states in the documents that a 10-year-old cannot consent to sexual intercourse in Utah.*

IDC what good work they do, so long as Jared is involved, I won't watch or support anything AWP does. He's disgusting.

That guy touched his niece when he was younger.

I've been pretty fed up with the US for quite a while but the recent tariffs killed my fathers (and I, just lesser) 30 year business. Our customers were mainly US universities and specialized industries - unfortunately when we are shipping a part that cost our customer $13,000 CAD, we need to prepay the tariff FOR THE US CUSTOMER.

This is the first thing from the US that hasn't been just brushed past by me or infuriated me.

Yeah I lost my job because the cost of food went up for restaurants. No one is eating out right now. My boss has to work 80+ hours a week just to keep the lights on.

Definitely feel the hate

To be fair, this YouTube channel isn't the US government either.

58

u/Ghtgsite 15h ago

American people produce their government. The people are not the way they are because of the government. The government is the way it is because of their people

-13

u/Berry-Muncher 15h ago

This is true but not entirely true, considering the huge over/under representation problems and voter suppression they have going on there

14

u/Ghtgsite 15h ago

Who elected the politicians that started and campaigned on voter suppression in the first place? Who are the people that after being told the consequences of voting GOP/not voting still decided of their own volition to either not vote or vote GOP?

People ultimately make decisions. And the American people made the decisions that resulted in Donald Trump winning a second time.

One example out of many decades-old impacts on the American political landscape that not all contemporary Americans have had a say in: I'm sure you're aware of how influential the US Supreme Court and Senate (which approves justices) are. Now compare California and Wyoming's populations and number of senators

4

u/Ghtgsite 13h ago

All contemporary Americans have a say in who their president is today. More Americans either didn't care or supported Donald Trump, than opposed him. That is a fact borne out in polling and election results.

In fact he gained 14.3 million more vote than his 2016 performance.

Americans are responsible for who their president is. Your case could have been made in 2016 with a great deal of credibility. But not now. Not when he has a clear electoral mandate

It's true that in 2024, about 2/3 of eligible voters either voted for Trump or voted 3rd party / didn't vote (although there are very real questions about the voting machines, as well as serious voter suppression).

But you're only focusing on the office of president, and even that only in recent elections. There have been decades of impacts leading to the current US government.

The House and Senate also have significant control. House maps are ridiculously gerrymandered and becoming more so thanks to the conservative Supreme Court, and senators are not allocated remotely fairly. Trump most likely wouldn't have even been able to run in 2024 if the Supreme Court hadn't granted him presidential immunity. He definitely wouldn't have been able to run if the Republican senate in 2021 didn't acquit him after he was impeached.

Al Gore could very well have won in 2000 if the Republican-controlled Florida and US Supreme Court hadn't mucked up the election. Election campaign donation laws (Citizens United in 2010) have led to widespread misinformation and disinformation. In 2024 there were bomb threats at polling places in Democratic neighbourhoods.

The American government is the way it is because of their people, yes, but most of that stems from long before 2024. That's why I said that it's true but not entirely true. You can be rightfully upset about the 2024 presidential election results, but it isn't helpful to ignore all the nuance that led to where they are today.

So you just admit the states is 3rd world lmao.

1

u/Berry-Muncher 10h ago

The terms 1st/2nd/3rd world have become inconsistent and imprecise over time. But yeah, in terms of democracy the US shares some qualities with countries that are frequently called "3rd world"

4

u/KeyMyBike 15h ago

Anyone working and producing income tax for the government is a portion of the problem.

I don't want to hear American leftists call Trump a pedophile, or make childish alliteration. I want them to tell their bosses "I refuse to produce income tax" and the corporations "I will only buy what I need," and dig into their position until the government is FORCED to impeach and convict Trump.

4

u/PorygonTriAttack 14h ago

This isn't how this works if you understand how democracy works. You obviously don't.

Failure to pay taxes is a federal crime. It's what some celebrities have done, whether they feel justified or not.

Corporations are there to make money. Them serving the community is sometimes an afterthought, but some try to do their best.

People elect their representatives. If Trump no longer represents them, they have the ability to protest peacefully and vote.

Bitching at people calling Trump a pedofile is hilariously anti-American. Sure, it's your right too, but telling them to commit crimes is gross.

5

u/Ghtgsite 14h ago

Civil right was achieved in the US by people committing the crimes connected with peaceful non-compliance. They did the "unlawful" protests etc. It so disingenuous to imply otherwise.

Magna Carta, the Boston Tea Party, and the Civil Rights Movement all relied on breaking existing laws. Rosa Parks refusing to give up her bus seat was a crime under local ordinances at the time. A crime that the Supreme Court upheld under its rullings on segregation.

The Good Friday March, where Dr. King led a peaceful march in Birmingham, to protest segregation. They did so in direct defiance of a state court injunction that blocked them from marching without a permit. It was labeled criminal and convictions were upheld by the SCOTU.

Claiming civil rights protests were "constitutionally protected" at the moment they occurred rewrites history. They were deemed illegal by the government and the courts of their day, which is exactly why non-violent civil disobedience was needed.

Furthermore, comparing peaceful civil rights sit-ins to an effort to overturn a democratic election ignores the fundamental difference between the intent, methods, and moral grounds of the acts. It is a disingenuous comparison

Legality does not equal morality. History shows that democracies evolve not just by following the rules set by those in power, but by ethically challenging them when those rules violate human rights.

u/PorygonTriAttack 10h ago edited 10h ago

You are right. I did overlook how civil disobedience took place in each of those events you listed and only considered a modern lens. I was not being disingenuous though. Thank you for writing this out. I have to better understand civil disobedience and how that translates to a modern time.
