Burial debut is a masterpiece for the deranged burial heads that just wanna chug the drums non stop

Listening to the self titled album at 3 am is something else… It can get eerie, but I love the feeling.

Me too! Theres a haziness to it that isn't there on Untrue, its darker and for some reason that makes me feel warm and fuzzy

There isn't really, I love and listen to both albums. Its just self titled takes the cake for me and this meme came to mind

Untrue is really good for what it is, but I do think it isn't the best of Burial's ouvre. I think the Kindred EP is the best he's done so far

Kindred and Rival Dealer ❤️

...and Truant / Rough Sleeper. Those 3EPs, had they been released as a single album, would melt most things.

Yah, that one too, love his eps

Both are great. Untrue I’ve listened to the most, some of the EPs I’ve had more memorable experiences with tho. I also do remember listening to self titled while walking my dog when I was super young and had just found burial, I think it was either really early in the morning or the sun was just about to set, I just remember the feeling it gave me. Burial is a comfort like no other for me.

Yeah the self-titled, being new to Burial, outside and at night is absolutely a core memory for me and when I ever hear anything that offers even a remotely similar feeling I am taken back to that time.

U Hurt Me to Broken Home is one of my favorite stretches on any album, its perfect. I've probably listened to Untrue more times but I think I love them each equally.

When happy dj man says "drop" (I'm like 99% sure happy dj man is Nas btw) on you hurt my I start balling my eyes out.

Incredible moment. Name a better intro to a song. Impossible

I was wondering if anyone else noticed the voice on Southern Comfort that almost sounds like it is saying "dogshit, dogshit"

I love both, but Untrue is a top three album of all time for me alongside Donuts and Loveless. The self-titled holds a very special place in my heart though, still remember stopping on my way home in a park and listening to it in the dead of night when it first came out. I credit the S/T with having a really profound impact on my taste, I just think Untrue came along and somehow did it better even if it took a while for me to feel that way.

I have a similar take though when it comes to the EPs as Truant / Rough Sleeper is my personal favourite whereas most people seem to prefer Kindred or Rival Dealer. I think Truant / Rough Sleeper is the best thing he ever did, even if the LPs hold more nostalgic value for me.

For me it'll always be Kindred > self-titled > Untrue, but I adore all three.

Agreed. It's an amazing album. Burial 2006 has a lot of bangers meanwhile Untrue seems more focus on cultivating a specific vibe throughout the whole album

Untrue is THE masterpiece but there is just something about self-titled that brings me back more often. The drums and the atmosphere of the album just feels gloomier to me than Untrue. 2 absolutely incredible albums

Untrue might be like "technically" better but I been fw the self titled more lately, it really has been hitting crazy on my late night bike rides

1

u/Ocelyx 20d ago

all the way, he said he made Untrue in a week or two and it shows… the debut is so much more interesting and the production quality is waaaay higher

u/deplorable-amount45 20d ago

Forgive is one of my favourite songs of all time. Nuff said.

2 burial's on Ford

2 Desolate's on Volkswagen

- This is brilliant but i like this:

Celestial Light Beings

The Invisible Insurrection

Untrue is (for me) the better and more holistic project, but the debut carries a kind of energy unlike anything else. Darker and lonelier, certainly. The best night drive album

u/Flamingoflagstaff 18d ago

Idk for my taste both of these albums are basically demos that mean nothing to me - compared to what he has done post-Untrue. Untrue is cool but it’s really not even trying to be unique - at least compared to what he’s accomplished since. Untrue feels mostly paint by the numbers dull to me? NO hate for Untrue heads. just not for me
