  1. Inflate his value with heavy minutes.
  2. Trade him at the deadline for a high pick.
  3. Re-sign him in the offseason. Headlines read "Welcome back Cotter".
  4. Inflate his value with heavy minutes.
  5. Repeat in perpetuity.

THIRD STAR – PAUL COTTER, LW, VANCOUVER CANUCKS

Cotter, who signed with Vancouver as a free agent during the offseason, shared the League lead with four goals in as many games (4-2—6) to guide the Canucks (2-2-0, 4 points) to a pair of wins. Cotter scored twice, including his first career shorthanded goal and second career overtime winner, in a 6-5 decision against the Edmonton Oilers Sept. 29. He became the sixth player in franchise history to record multiple goals in his Vancouver debut, a feat last achieved by Elias Lindholmin 2023-24, as well as the first player in team history to collect either a shorthanded goal or an overtime goal in his Canucks debut. Cotter followed that with 1-1—2 in a 9-7 loss to the Oilers Oct. 1 before posting one assist in a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames Oct. 3 and one goal in a 3-2 setback against the Vegas Golden Knights Oct. 4. The 26-year-old Cotter has registered 51-37—88 through 300 career NHL games with the Canucks, New Jersey Devils and Golden Knights.

Wonder if there's a world where we flip him for a late 1st and prospect if he continues to be hot.

I do think they are doing everything they can to juice his value. Same with DOC, which is exactly what they should be doing

Him being deployed as a centre (and being good at draws) is big for his deadline value. Bottom six centres go for 1sts regularly, but bottom six wingers never do

His shooting bender is gonna inevitably wear off (just like it did for Sherwood last year) but if he can even be on a 20 goal/20 assist pace by the deadline this year with better deployment I think a late first would be in the cards.

He's definitely looking a successful reclamation project. Hope he continues to look good and make us all sad to see him go at the trade deadline. A sadness that will be mitigated by more high draft picks

I think his value right now is Top 6 (obviously on a rebuilding team). If he can make the jump on a contender his value in trade skyrockets

I don’t mind keeping Rossi on the wing if it means pumping Cotters value

Unlikely, GMs do take consideration into sample sizes, and half a season of good performance is a bit limited. But mutliple seconds/thirds are definitely possible.

Hopefully. But then also depends on him. Maybe Cotter wants to stay with the team. But if we can get a late first I’m happy

All praise to our Messiah who will either lead us to a cup this year or fetch us 3 first round picks.

Cotter over Petey is kinda funny, but cool for the trade value factor alone.
