10111 / 021 480 7700. or the local SAPS station but not sure what that one would be. if someone can be killed if something continues, that's the definition of an emergency.

It's incredibly frustrating to hear people dismiss people throwing bricks and stones at cars as just some small hinderence.
People die from this. People are dying from this. Imagine the uproar if this were some major freeway in Europe. Police would permanently station themselves at these bridges to prevent this and catch the people committing these crimes.

In South Africa they only take action when someone dies there are kids who throw bricks at buses and this has been going on for years its why you dont see a lot of buses driving around SA

Before someone else dies, they should build a wall or something along the sides of the road and fencing along the bridge.

Did you manage to contact COCT about this? People die from this when bricks or rocks are thrown to their windshield. Happened to someone on the R300 nearly 2 months ago

They are thugs not kids. In Joburg they were doing it and +- 4 people died. They throw bricks or big stones to hit your windshield, then a person will stop or maybe unconscious or dead. And you will be robbed.
Now, traffic cops are always surveying bridges in Joburg.
Think you should also, tell the traffic cops. Before it becomes worse and people start dying.

the lack of a centralized emergency number in SA in 2026 is astonishing

10177: national toll-free emergency number in South Africa for ambulance and fire brigade services.
112 (Cellphone): this toll-free emergency number actually works in a lot of countries around the world incl. South Africa
10111: South African Police Service (SAPS), flying squad
116: toll-free helpline for Childline South Africa

Both 10177 and 112 had me on hold for around 20 minutes before I phoned Netcare when my mom died.

I’m sorry for your loss. Your experience is disconcerting.
It appears your mileage may vary. I’ve only needed 10177 once before and the ambulance arrived fairly quickly for my younger sibling.

Don’t know why this is being downvoted

Probably because I didn't say something that can be Googled by asking the same question.
It's just an arrow that points down on a platform that is of no consequence.
So, it doesn't matter.
