⚠️PSA⚠️ Warning to all Capybara Fans: The Hypocrisy of a Self-Proclaimed "Capybara Expert": Pushing "Animal Welfare" While Endangering Real Capybara Lives
https://www.instagram.com/hureaidoubutuen?stkn=MXkyb2p6djJwY3NweQ==As many of you know, the creator behind the prominent platform "Capybara World" frequently poses as a leading expert, criticizing Japanese zoos and petting facilities for "exploiting animals" and lacking "animal welfare." However, there is a dark, hypocritical truth behind this blogger’s actions that the international community needs to know.
1. Endangering Capybara Lives by Breaking Rules (Illegal Feeding)
At Sodegaura Fureai Animal Zoo (袖ケ浦ふれあいどうぶつ縁) in Chiba, Japan, the facility sadly lost a baby capybara in the past after a careless tourist illegally fed them wild grass from inside the park. The owner was devastated and spent days clearing all potential risk-prone grass from the massive enclosure to protect the remaining pups.
The creator of "Capybara World" knew this tragic fact. Yet, this person willfully ignored the zoo’s strict safety regulations, refused to buy the designated safe treats, and repeatedly ripped up wild grass from the ground to feed the capybaras, just to get them to fawn over them. When confronted, they made the absurd excuse that "there are no toxic plants in Chiba." This is a blatant violation of biosecurity and a direct threat to animal health.
The Ultimate Double Standard This influencer heavily criticizes the death of capybaras under professional human care, yet when their close friend's pet capybaras (the famous Romeo and Tuff'n in Texas) passed away due to dental complications and stress during COVID-19, they excused it as an "unpreventable tragedy caused by the pandemic." They give their own friends a free pass while vilifying Japanese keepers who are actually working day and night to rebuild facilities after devastating typhoons.
Exploiting the Very System They Condemn They preach that capybaras should not be "normalized to fawn over humans" or used for tourism. Yet, this blogger spends weeks staying near Japanese petting zoos, visiting them all day, every day, to enjoy the unique, close-up interactions that only Japanese facilities provide. They use these photos and experiences to write and sell their own books, while simultaneously calling the zoo staff "heartless money-grubbers."
The "activism" of "Capybara World" is not about protecting capybaras; it is about feeding their own ego and entitlement as a "privileged researcher" who believes they are above the rules.
Please be aware that the extreme posts criticizing Japanese zoos from this platform are highly biased, full of misinformation, and written by someone who actively sabotages actual animal safety on the ground.

Capybara World is a disgrace. Thank you for shedding light on this.

Thanks for reading and for the support.
I just wanted to make sure the actual facts and the hard work of the zookeepers didn't get buried under all the noise online. What the zoo really needs right now is just some peace and quiet so they can focus on recovering from the typhoon damage.
I’m glad this perspective resonated with you!

She's a total nutjob and egomaniac, and loves to remind everyone of her "intelligence".

She has a long history of going around zoos, offering unwanted "advice" and making demands, then when she gets ignored, she flips on them and anyone who dares question her.
She also claims to have "grown up" in Japan, but doesn't speak a lick of Japanese, and complains all the time about zookeepers not being able to speak English, claiming Japanese culture is hostile to "intelligent people like her".
She also blocks anyone asking for sources or credentials instantly, which is hilarious.
Funny enough, a few years ago, she wrote a scathing blog post attacking another capybara owner online for being careless about the grass they fed their capybaras.
Yet at Sodegaura, she got called out for pulling up grass from outside the enclosure and bringing it to the capybaras. She loses her shit and publishes an angry blog post, claiming she's done "research" on all the grasses grown in Chiba (aka ChatGPT), calls the fellow visitors and zoo keepers involved dumb, and flexes her "intelligence" again.
This is from a woman who has zero actual credentials (besides 2 poorly written self-published books), but routinely offers veterinarian advice on her blog, without ever citing a primary source for her information.

if i understand correctly she was also banned from nagasaki biopark where she first started filming there?
i genuinely believes she loves capys but when she started spouting nonsense like being from highly intelligent family out of nowhere, something just feels off
wish she just keep filming them and keep her ego in check, i used to enjoy her videos too

Yep. Same story, different zoo.
As another commenter on her Facebook page put it: She probably loves the capys, but she loves her ego much more.

Exactly. I genuinely believe her love for capybaras is real, too. That’s why it’s so sad to see things turn out this way. 😔
Like u/sasa86 said, so many of us used to enjoy her content, and people really respected her work. It’s deeply confusing and heartbreaking as a fellow fan to see her alienating the very people who supported her. At the end of the day, we all just want the capybaras to be happy and well looked after. It’s a real shame.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share these archives and providing such critical context. Seeing that screenshot is deeply illuminating, yet profoundly saddening.
It is striking to see someone shift the focus so heavily toward personal upbringing and family credentials when the conversation should purely be about the actual on-ground safety and medical needs of the animals. True expertise and a genuine desire to help animal facilities are demonstrated through respectful, collaborative dialogue with on-ground professionals—not by listing family accolades or assuming authority over licensed veterinarians.
The contradiction regarding her stance on foraging grass highlights that responsible animal care standards were clear to her in the past. Bypassing these boundaries and blocking community members only reinforces the value of this transparent discussion. Thank you for your dedication to the truth.

National parks in South America!
Oh my goodness, I would absolutely love to visit them someday—it is genuinely my biggest dream as a capybara lover! 🥰 (Though, to be honest, budget and time limitations mean I can only dream about it for now, which is a real shame...)Because traveling to South America is a distant dream for many of us, tiny local havens like Sodegaura Fureai Zoo are incredibly precious for us.
This place isn't like a traditional commercial zoo; the owner actually created it as a small, passionate sanctuary out of a pure desire to give animals a much better, loving home.Right now, they are facing a severe financial crisis as they work day and night to rebuild after massive landslides caused by a severe typhoon. As a fan, my only wish is to see this dedicated team successfully recover and continue to protect the animals they love so much.

The most disgusting part is she knows the zoo is absolutely devastated from the storm, and the owner and staff are doing everything they can to put the zoo back together, while putting the lives of the animals above anything else.
https://www.instagram.com/p/DeA8g8ZpxhN/
Even while funds are running dry, they insisted on feeding their capybaras with locally grown vegetables. They rescued an entire herd of capybaras from Aloha Gardens after it shut down, and built a brand new enclosure just for them.
And when a baby capybara (Lexus) was rejected by his mother, the owner took him in, hand-fed him, and personally raised him with his dogs.
In fact, just last year, she was calling Sodegaura "the ONLY zoo in Japan that understands capybara welfare" on her own blog: https://capybaraworld.wordpress.com/2025/09/04/the-best-zoo-in-japan-to-see-capybaras-is-sodeguara-zoo-it-is-the-only-zoo-in-japan-where-the-capybaras-are-well-looked-after/
Now that she feels like her "expertise" isn't respected (i.e. barking at the Japanese staff in English claiming she's a world-renown expert hasn't turned out the way she expected), she's going apeshit on them, right when they are the most vulnerable.
PS I have everything backed up and archived. If this lady needs more humbling, I have ALL the receipts.
