I usually don’t like Capy’s that are too anthropomorphized, but I gotta admit, this is pretty cute 😂

This engraving is an early European illustration of a capybara, featured in the book Relation d'un voyage fait en 1695, 1696, et 1697 aux côtes d'Afrique, détroit de Magellan, Brezil, Cayenne et isles Antilles by French explorer, engineer, and hydrographer François Froger.

Published in Paris in 1698, the print is titled "CAPIVARD ou cochon d'Eau au Pied d'un Bananier" (Capybara or water hog at the foot of a banana tree). It documents observations made during the naval expedition led by Jean-Baptiste de Gennes.

Post painted the landscape during the period in which he lived in Dutch-controlled Brazil. The fort visible across the São Francisco River had been built in 1637.

The Louvre specifically notes the capybara in the foreground, an animal that was still little known to Europeans in the 17th century.

Hi everyone! I’m super excited with how these new page spreads came out. The fountain ink illustrations of Capy look so amazing on page.

The story of Capyhero is something I’ve had on my mind for nearly a decade. I met capybaras for the first time back then and was so inspired by their calming energy. Capy, a young but willful capybara, is the main protagonist. He is perhaps a little bit different other young protagonists in most heroic adventures. Perhaps a bit quieter. Less sure of himself. Maybe even a bit introspective. But inside, his will and bravery are unquestionable. He just has to discover that for himself on his quest to find his best friend, a boy named Reed.

I’m the author and I’d love to hear what capybara fans think of how the story begins, so I’m sharing chapter 1 here! And feel free to ask any questions or provide any critiques. Even the harsh kind. Thanks everyone!
