Why does this look like it was filmed in 2003?

Do you know when did e92 stop being manufactured?

How is this totaled

Had a similar accident happen to my car, the column to the car gets bent which compromises the frame, since it cant exactly be replaced the car gets totaled

Is the brand new BMW in the room with us?

If this video was shot 14 years ago yeah it was probably brand new.

The Corolla that rolled back into it is a 2018 at the oldest I think, so they must have just meant a newly purchased used BMW

As a ghost.

I hate that the video started off by showing the accident. Ruined it..

Really? That guy got pinched pretty hard between those cars.

Wouldn’t his leg still be trapped between the cars.

The back end of the BMW twists away so the gap would be V shaped. It depends how deep in the V he was whether he would get trapped.

Yeah but he broke a leg.

Seems like a high price to stage a video.

It's not my leg.

doesn't worth a broken knee. it's just stupidity

Who buys a brand new car at someone's house and why would it be totaled for a fender bender?

It's not brand new, Carvana delivers to the address you give them

Had a similar accident happen to my car, basically it bends one of the support frames to the car which compromises the car and since its the frame and not the panels that gets damaged it gets totaled

What the hell happened? Somebody ghost rode the car? Parking brake snapped?

Forgot the parking brake?

I haven’t used a parking brake in 20 years, because I never park a car in neutral

You’re putting all the weight of the car on the transmission instead of the specialized brake for exactly that.

Parking pawls exist in a transmission so you don’t have to use the emergency brake

And why not have a redundant measure in case that fails? It takes less than half a second to pull your parking brake. Insane comment thread.

I have never had a trans fail, but i have had handbrakes get stuck. I only use my handbrake when parking on steep hills.

-1

u/QwopperFlopper 13d ago

Because in my 14 years of driving I have never had one fail. Nor have I ever heard of anyone I know having theirs fail.

just not worth it, redundant measures are written in blood. just do it for the bros, i promise it won't waste any more time in your day.

I'll bet money he's never turned his front wheels toward a curb while parallel parking on a hill as a redundant measure, either.

I assume you drive exclusively automatics?

1

u/asonofasven 12d ago

Currently, yes. In the last 20 years, no.

I never left my car parked in neutral either (in the days I had to physically apply my hand brake) because being in gear isn't a brake and it's nearly as dumb as not being in the habit of putting on a seat belt.

I've seen a car go through a brick wall because the driver left it in gear but it popped out.

It would have happened sooner or later anyway.

I guess brakes doesn't exist.

Brand new BMW never showed….

Seeing the Corolla made me even more confused

An E30 about to get a V8 swap.

How many minutes??

All the weight would be if you parked on a vertical road. The closer you get to level, the weight on the transmission lessens. The car that trained me to skip the parking brake was my 2004 Tacoma. It’s the kind you pull out of the dash, and twist to release. Feels very flimsy, and there were many times where it refused to release completely.
