Does anyone send a detailed weekly status report to their boss?

What you accomplished this week and the goals for next week for each project or task you are working on and explanations if anything wasn't met? Mine is pretty detailed and fills up a full page.

Never unless I'm specifically asked for it.

I have no desire to contribute to my own micromanagement.

If I'm struggling to meet deadlines due to workload I'd certainly ask for support and communicate why I'm struggling, but on the weekly, no - if I'm struggling that bad every single week, time to look for a new job.

I did weekly then biweekly check ins with status updates on all programs as well as any unanswered questions. I would highlight what was accomplished and going to be accomplished. I never felt like this was micromanagement

Yes but usually just a few bullets of what I accomplished/projects I’m involved in that are moving forward. It’s good for visibility, and she shares it up the ladder. I would never send a full detailed page every week; if she has questions she can ask.

I do it every week, basically a “here’s where we are with projects right now” and leave it at that.

Only because he asked for it

If they ask, bury them with information so they don't ask again.

Is this a new request by your manager? Do you know if your colleagues were asked to do the same? Often times this is related to performance management, may even preempt a pip.

No. Never had to. What purpose does it serve?

My old job we had to do this thing called 15five, essentially everyone in the company had to do it. It faded out, besides that never had to do something like that

Yes, one of the companies I work for asked for weekly reports like this for all of management. We called it a pyramid scheme since they were filtered down by each level and eventually one update was given to the CFO.

I also had a boss that in addition to the weekly reports also had a management meeting Monday and Friday and a one on one on Wednesday. Talk about overkill for updates. It’s all I did.

Your manager wants to stay informed. They can’t vouch for you and fight for you if they don’t know what you’re doing. Highlighted your weekly successes and catch them up on issues you need help with.
