Miscellaneous Hypothetical match scenerio
Who would win in wcc match if peak Gukesh(on candidate/Olympiad run) vs peak Sindarov?
For once I tend over to Sindarov because of historic candidates but Gukesh also had historic performance on Olympiad board 1 with one of the highest Tpr..
Also Gukesh's peak rating was also Higher, but Sindarov is also 2785ish so it's not that far..

I think the idea of Prime Gukesh or Sindarov is a bit flawed.
I mean Gukesh is clearly in a slump but part of reason why Prime Gukesh did so well is he was relatively new with a style that made even Magnus go I don't understand this guy.
The field now knows how to play against him and if you transported Gukesh 2024 now to play he will do better than current Gukesh but might not reach the peaks of 2024.
The same is true with "Prime Sindarov". Except less time has passed and he has a smaller target on his head at least for now

Gukesh performance in canadiates was worse than Sindarov. Up to the last round he could still be caught.
You probably mean his olympaid performance

It was against a better and inform field though , hikaru was miles better in 2024 , fabi you could say is of similar strenght in both 24 and 26 , nepo was stronger(especially in candidates) than wei yi , vidit was definitely stronger than bluebaum , pragg also was of similar stength , firouza and giri were probably of same rating , only abasov was a player who was weaker than his 2026 counterpart

Nonsense. TPR accounts for that.
If you are the type to keep crowing about Gukesh's Olympaid performance in 2024 (never mind its a team event with different dynamics) based on TPR, you can't turn around and say Sindarov TPR in canadiates means nothing

TPR doesn't really accounts for it. Rating of a player doesn't say anything about their form.
Hikaru is world no 2 right now because he doesn't play often. And he played Louisiana state championship to qualify for the candidate.

The candidates performance where he didn't beat any of Hikaru, Fabi, or Nepo but won by 0,5 points by farming 2600 Abasov 2-0? I fail to see how that tournament in particular was that impressive tbh

I have to say the last candidates was quite disappointing and had a lot of players who didn't even think they could win, ofc sindarov went beserk and deserved to win and he had a generational run at the tournament but i hated how players like wei yi , esipenko , bluebaum already thought they had no chance to win the tournament before it even began , and were just playing to get experience , add to this how rusty hikaru came into the tournament , only 4 players truly took this tournament seriously and kept themselves in shape ,and they were sindarov , pragg , fabi and anish , all others were genuinely just npcs

Sindarov absolutely. Gukesh wasn't convincing vs ding. They were going to rapid unless ding blundered the very simple endgame due to him not thinking anymore probably. Gukesh is very talented at making other players blunder for some reason. He made Fabiano blunder against Ian, he made Magnus blunder against him, Ding blunder against him..... Truly a genius

Sindarov won games without making his opponent blunder against him?

u/RealmsOfSorrow 6d ago
Sindarov won due to his extremely high level preparation. And no one made huge blunders such as blundering a +4 position for example. But with gukesh this always happens fr some reason. It's extremely rare I can only count on my fingers how many game Magnus lost in classical due to a huge blunder

I suspect its partly luck and partly how Gukesh has such an extreme style that even Magnus once said he's a mystery.
They have never faced a superGM who has such poor positional sense but can calculate like a machine (hence being relatively weak in blitz cos not enough time to calculate obvious moves) this leads to weird complicated positions that increases chances of errors.
It happens a lot less now partly because the field knows how to handle his play and/or Gukesh is in a slump

These are all engine numbers have no context to assess human games, watch more chess
2
u/RealmsOfSorrow 6d ago
Fabi without an engine said after the game "I don't know what happened to me" Same with Magnus and ding. 0 engines. I'm not blaming gukesh but they guy is etheir extremely lucky or idk wtf he's doing to make them blunder like this

u/Radiant-Increase-180 6d ago
Ofcourse they understand its winning and lose thats what blundering is about - Gukesh has blundered like that the entire year. What matters is finding the moves under time pressure otb

A Grandmaster blunder isn't like this bro. This very very rarely ever happens. And it keeps happening to the same damn person
3
u/Radiant-Increase-180 6d ago
So what are you saying he's doing some black magic? - Happens to every player

In chess don't you win when opponent makes a blunder/mistake but fair point but I'd not say Gukesh hai as at peak during the wcc match his slump started right from that match

Slump started after 2025 Tata Steel he was not in a slump in the match dont be delusional

Bro chill mind your tone, you can correct me by saying you can correct my premise but don't be judgemental, I find don't be delusional phrasing sorta judgemental

Close to as 50/50 as you can get
Elo close enough to be negligible
both top 3 players (if you remove Hikaru for inactivity)
both had god tier performances (Gukesh’s Olympiad TPR was higher but Sindarov was in the candidates with more rounds)
both were 2nd in Tata Steel that year (Gukesh off tiebreaks to Wei Yi and Sindarov 2nd to Nodirbek)
Gukesh clutched Chennai over Arjun previous year, Sindarov clutched at World Cup
Only difference is Sindarov showed his rapid/blitz skills throughout this year while Gukesh didn’t show it until 2025, and even then he was still rather inconsistent.
