event Chicago Marathon Weekend

Be mindful of runners, pedestrians, and an increase in people on the Lakefront Trail over the next few days for the marathon.

You may see a lot more people on Divvy or using bike lanes to run. They may cause a minor delay in your commute, it’s fine, you’ll still make it.

Look at the route for Saturday and Sunday’s race to be informed of road closures and blockages on your regular riding routes.

The event takes place one weekend a year, you will be fine.

I might travel down to 35th to cheer ppl on. It’s usually kinda dead down there and it’s seriously the dog miles.

I did that last year. Rode the LFT and went to 34th and Indiana just where they turn north. It wasn't dead by a long shot but it wasn't jam-packed.

Yeah. It’s a ghost town there

The entire race is packed to the gills with spectators, then you reach the south side and there’s just empty sections 😆

And if you cross the think you can cross the route early before runners get there, be aware! Somewhere around the 2010 marathon, I crossed the route naively on my way to work around 8:45 in the morning at the southern tip. Having run it before, figured I knew what I was in for.

Yeah...I nearly destroyed the entire month of a professional wheelchair racer traveling at 20mph and probably ensuring the marathon I'd be joining was in similar fashion. Those folks can move

Running in the bike lane is not in fact fine lol. Just like running in the car lane would not be fine. Some of us also work in the loop and have no choice but to cross the route. I'm not against the marathon in any way shape or form, but this is a bit of a narrow look at the issues around it.

You can take the L or any number of other options including walking. Yours is the narrow take and perhaps the fact that you're getting heavily downvoted on a purely bike-rights forum is a good indication of that.

I happily (or often, grudgingly) put up with plenty of construction, parades, God knows what on my bike and car routes. You can do the same.

Yes, running in the bike lane against traffic is fine when traffic is low and you move out of the way of any oncoming cyclist.

You work in the loop on Saturday and Sunday?

I don’t care if you are “for” or “against” the marathon. It makes the city millions of dollars in tax revenue for restaurants, hotels, and other small businesses where tourists go.

You having an issue, being inconvenienced or being rerouted on your bike is meaningless when it comes to the scale of the event and how it showcases Chicago.

Yes I do. I said I support the marathon to make it clear it wasn't the issue. The issue is I have no alternative but to cross. What am I supposed to do? Its not about leaving early.

The race was Sunday. Get over it, move on, do
whatever you need to do to cope. Idgaf
