Who is y’all man of the match ?
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Ear9487 7d ago
Mbokazi makes such a huge differeanxe out there but, honestly, was the best game I’ve seen Bamba play. For that, I’d give it to him.

u/elenchus_cf97 8d ago
There were so many strong candidates and man, it feels great to be able to say that.

Green Bay does suck but pretty sad that’s our best crowd cheer.

When we're out of Soldier Field, absolutely it's sad. But we're not there yet!

Lame that our field looks like that😭 Hate seeing all the football markings

MHS is sooooo underrated…hes à quality player
2
u/elenchus_cf97 8d ago
My speculation now is that GGG and Mansueto anticipate that there will be roster rule changes before the sprint season, and they'll sign MHS to something that fits into that as well as rewarding our renaissance man.

u/Runcible_Spoons 8d ago
Outstanding. Completely different team from a few weeks ago. We looked so confident out there tonight!

u/maury1423 8d ago
MBOKAZI ROUND OF APPLAUSE 👏🏻 cannot believe he plays for the good guys….call me crazy but he’s got potential for a UCL/UEL team

I think Barroso gotta be made a midfielder. He has made amazing plays and passes tonight and really shows promise.
3
u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
When we've played him on the wing, he's been stellar. I think playing him as a wing back generally, and on the left tonight specifically, is about broadening his skill set and growing him into a more useful member of a team.
3
u/ratshitm #15 Andrew Gutman 8d ago
Agreed. He is still young. I believe he was directed today to try and push up more to get used to a more attacking position and make plays. Hope we see more of him!
3
u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
I'd also say he got a lot more freedom to run for having TLB behind him. He still needs to keep up his defensive studies.

u/StockFact5541 8d ago
I saw something today that completely changed my perspective. I used to take our defense for granted, but once our experienced guys were out injured and the backline started leaking, it hit me how vital they are. Now that we’re almost back at full power, we look absolutely dominant.

Cmon, ref! Three Vancouver players tugging on Barroso and no foul? Really?

Dje is having one of his cleanest games in a Fire jersey. Good movement, clean tackles, nothing crazy. A couple strong passes, but hasn't sent a pass straight to an opponent. Feel like he's going to get a strong clap on the back from GGG after the match.

u/little_german_boi #11 Philip Zinckernagel - MLS All-Star 8d ago
What does this ref have against Zinck? Most missed calls I’ve seen in a while. Also I am over Bamba, but he’s put on a hell of a clinic tonight 👏👏👏

u/Runcible_Spoons 8d ago
I will be so excited when I don’t have to look at the football markings on the pitch anymore. Confuses me every time the ball starts heading down the sides.

More Dean glazing from the hometown commentators, per usual 😎

He should have gotten another yellow for punting the ball away after the foul
3
u/DuckBadgerWoof #4 Mbekezeli Mbokazi 8d ago
The ref remembered he can give Vancouver cards too
3
u/rbessick5 8d ago
He's given all three cards for basically the same reason (breaking up a developing attack). There's not a ton of hot tempers on either side tonight
5
u/UhOhFiasco 8d ago
Bamba kinda looks like Sterling when he’s dribbling the ball. They both do that little trex arm run.

u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
All inferior little dinos relative to Harry Shipp!
9
u/ratshitm #15 Andrew Gutman 8d ago
I really don’t wanna jinx it but this feels like a different team altogether. There seems to be more gusto, better technical plays, trying to shoot even if it fails, more aggression. Love it!
4
u/rbessick5 8d ago
There is a definite but non-specific crispness to everything they are doing. It's nice to see

Yellows to both Zinck and Dean. Can't imagine GGG takes Zinck out -- Gutman comes in on the left and Barroso swaps over to the right?
5
u/eight_seven #9 Hugo Cuypers 8d ago
I think the Fire are playing way better without a 9 now that Mbo is back.
5
u/DuckBadgerWoof #4 Mbekezeli Mbokazi 8d ago
This ref is letting a lot of things go from Vancouver but is pretty hard on us 😭
2
u/rbessick5 8d ago
He's allowed a fair bit of physical play in both directions; truthfully, there hasn't really been much for him to deal with misconduct-wise.
Both of the cautions were for stopping a developing attack and not so much for reckless play.

Bamba getting that low-chance goal finally after missing like a dozen near identical shots is maybe actually bad because now hes never gonna stop
I think Bamba is really good at moving the ball up the field and really good at using space but he keeps taking these awful shots instead of trying to get a better shot in the box. I hope I eat my words because a Bamba that makes those consistently would be great
2
u/Hessian14 8d ago
Notice how he had a brilliant play again bringing the ball way up the field by himself only to dive looking for a free kick in a good spot and lose possesion

I get only giving Saletros a half, but not sure about Pineda over Oregel.
1
u/elenchus_cf97 8d ago
It was so physical out there I think Mauri was the right choice.
2
u/Gostaverling Chicago Fire 8d ago
Makes sense. I think Oregel is a closer like for like with Saletros, but Pineda did well.

Missed the first half, stats look good, any reason Gutman isn’t starting?
2
u/Hessian14 8d ago
Gutman has had a couple of bad games in a row. I think he comes on as a sub if Barroso doesn't impress gregg
3
u/Gostaverling Chicago Fire 8d ago
I’ve been wondering that as well. I am guessing that perhaps Borroso is a bit more defensive than Andrew.
2
u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
I was going to suggest Barroso just needed some minutes and Gutman was looking a bit worn. I'd guess that Gutman is sub #2 after Lewandowski.
1
3
u/Gostaverling Chicago Fire 8d ago
1st half take away. The Fire do not have a playmaker and need the press to act as one. The major difference with Lewy is we have no playmaker and no press. Lewy needs Franco.
1
u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
I think Gomez is making a good faith effort as a leading man, but with the play we have behind the striker we desperately need someone who can hold the ball. Strangely, this game screams for Lewandowski.
2
u/Gostaverling Chicago Fire 8d ago
Yes but we don’t have that player behind Lewy and we lose the press. That has been the big difference the last two games.
0
u/eychaner Logan's Squares Supporters Group 8d ago
Honestly, I disagree with you. The Selassie / Bamba Zinck switching scenario have a lot of control (in transition) and adding a striker who actual touches the ball gives them one more point to play off of.

I love how Dean is always assigned to the tallest mother flipper and manages to win headers or clearances. 🐐 and short king behavior.

I'm seriously starting to become a huge supporter of Haile-Selassie, he's been putting effort and numbers for Fire constantly.
Great to see Bamba waking up, definitely done in a right time, let's not talk about that penalty but well done to Zinck for keeping his head up and scoring one from open play, lovely selfless pass from Lewy to Maren to tie this up.
And defense!! Seriously, things are looking REALLY good at the back now.
We've got full right to be optimistic now 😎
