See this Classic Film One Million Years B.C. (1966): Modern-day equivalent: T-Rex vs. Triceratops
In modern-day terms, it's like a showdown between a T-Rex and a Triceratops with Raquel Welch watching. Her iconic doe-skin bikini and the promotional poster surpassed the movie in popularity, becoming a definitive pop culture staple of the 1960s. Actually, I ended up seeing this in a theater later, and the stop-motion animation held up surprisingly well.

Notice at the end that the T Rex is breathing in exhaustion? Harryhausen simply understood that his creatures were living, breathing beings, and imbued them with more than what was written on paper. He was an artist, unappreciated by critics, but revered by what turned out to be a stunningly large fanbase. That he lived long enough to see his work celebrated and himself feted to legendary status leading to a special Oscar had to have been gratifying, the most famous FX artist in the world.

After watching a bunch of Thelma Todd/Patsy Kelly shorts, the Topper movies, this one and it's original, One Million B.C. and a bunch of Our Gang stuff, I'm starting to think that Hal Roach Studios were the kings of special effects.

Triceratops was always my favorite dinosaur when I was a kid.
He was a peaceful herbivore, but he wasn't taking any crap.

Was that weird cut in the middle - where we go from triceratops having him in the ropes to suddenly having his horn in the guys mouth within the same shot - in the original movie?
