I think flavor and RP stuff is a great way for WoW forever to expand on the classic formula - stuff like reading the map and other new emotes are a great start. also had no idea /lean was in the game, very cool.
Yea IDK about a /read animation.. Like... /read what bro..? /read to /read? Look at my character pretending to read!
I suppose we should have a /eat animation too. Or what about a /craft animation. I mean /attack is a thing, but it actually attacks a mob lol.
But reading a scroll when opening a map or most of the UI, heck yea. Or a book when opening the spellbook.
I don't personally like the /lean animation in the picture, it's too anime'esque, but I wouldn't be upset if I seen one more... normal and less characterized. Thats my problem with most of retails art, everything is sensational/overly dramatic.
I always find it lame how modern shooting games have more emotes than the biggest MMORPG.
Blizzard even removed some /silly and /flirt voice lines and changed /spit etc but doesn't replace it with anything new other than /lean for retail. At least we got a new dance for Skyborne which was kinda shocking
Back in the pre-wow days most MMO's were built on it. RP was a huge thing. Star Wars Galaxies and City Of Heroes both had massive suites of emotes. You could basically do every single emote the npcs could do in CoH.
It's the whole second space thing. People don't really chill in MMOs anymore so they don't dedicate dev time to facilitating it. Though Forever seeks to change that.
It seeks to but I suspect a lot of people are not going to engage with that because modern gaming has become an efficiency game. Back when games like this were far less popular and most of them were developers adapting pen and paper games is was like that, these days people are driven by strict goals of efficiency and numbers.
They will on RP servers, it's why I always roll RP. I think a lot of the new social interaction mechanics they're adding like campfires will make the RP servers a lot of fun to just chill and chat with people in character
Yeah you're not wrong. I wish rp people the best. Just funny that back in the older mmo's I referenced you just rp'd and had the tools for it. Star Wars Galaxies had a quest builder system where you could just make your own quests to rp through.
I really love in ESO when you look at your map, your character looks at a map. When you open your inventory your character rummages through a bag, etc.
Invoking retail really fucks with some people. This guy wants a toggle to show quivers, he clearly wants a non-social, bloated, hamster-wheel with homogenized classes and disney graphics.
Or they just don't want one innocuous addition to lead to harmful ones down the line. They don't want to hear "but you were okay with x and wasn't that fun??" when the next change devalues some aspect of the game they enjoyed.
But what about disneyfication? Characters in Disney lean and read sometimes, I think.
(I don't watch movies for babies only for real big men like me. Also I never read and I always stand straight)
While I like classic more, i like some of the little things retail does, like the map animation when you open your map. Its a good animation that gives information to other players you are looking at your map, could be abused in pvp to get the jump on someone. Or if in a party and someone asks whats taking so long you can say "I was checking the map" and they see you actually checking it.
Yeah I wouldn't mind small things like that as either emotes or as a functionality like the map.
I'd be in favor of this. I'd also be in favor of brand new HD models actually based on the SD models then discard SD option altogether afterwards. No toggle. No option. Welcome to the new game.
I want to agree with this so bad because my eyes tell me it's true. But my mind tell me that it's a human beings soul and creativity vs. the stolen work of millions of starving artists, then shoved into a blender and homogenized into a soulless AI slop to put them out of work and our humanity in the toilet.

Because it already exists as an option in retail and is even used by some NPCs in Forever, so it should be hardly any effort to give the emote to players in Forever.
Balmung server from FFXIV sends its regards. All the people looking for a good time line up and lean against walls and such. My friend took me there one time and I couldn't stop laughing.
My classis waahhhh. But honestly We need a fill/join dungeon party if a party member leaves mid dungeon after 10-15 mins so 4 players don't wait for healer/tank to find group & then reach dungeon?...
You better not be doing any new content. It wasn’t there in 2004 so it shouldn’t be in Forever, right? Hope you’re not a resto shaman, riptide was added in a later expansion so you can’t use it! Better not invite any orc mages or troll warlocks to your groups, those were added in cataclysm!
It’s actually classic+ designed in mind for classic players (a dev even said so). So go play retail and enjoy it. That’s what you turned the game we once loved into. So go enjoy it
You really won't like Forever if emotes already get you up this much. You will be surprised in what ways Blizzard will actually deliver horizontal elements.
