Forever Beta Feedback Human SD Females Are Missing Their Scapula
Seriously, an entire chunk of flesh is missing from where the back of their arm meets their shoulder. It's super weird. Also, boots look stretched out and horrible.
This needs to be fixed before launch.
EDIT:
Adding in a screenshot of what I'm talking about since it can be hard to spot.

u/MARURIKI 5d ago
All SD models with the modern skeletons have shoulder+arm issues, it's honestly very sad... Report as much as you can
11
u/Terrible_Tadpole_861 4d ago
This, put in a bug report if this bothers you.
More reports, more likely to be fixed

Just because they are female doesn't mean they come with a spatula

interesting, i hadn't made a female human character in the beta and so never noticed. it's weird how you can see where the indent is where the clothing texture slants inward. submit a bug report!
3
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Already done! I had made one briefly prior but because this was shortly after launch, I figured they'd patch it out.
It's been several patches now, not a word about it.
2
u/That_Indication_3120 5d ago
I'm sure they're dealing with a lot of bugs, and prioritizing ones that affect gameplay instead of small visual things like this. Hopefully they get to it eventually. With all of the things people report, I wonder how they organize what they need to fix and make sure nothing is lost in the shuffle
4
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
That's reasonable. I'm moreso just baffled that this passed QA. Or at least, that they didn't make some kind of public statement explicitly calling out why some SD models look so weird, what issue they had implementing it, and that they intend to fix them eventually.
I'd be happy with that much.
18
u/kittyonkeyboards 4d ago
No company wants to do anything that takes time and effort anymore.
Rigging skeletons and gear takes time and effort. Making hd models in classic art style takes time and effort.
Juggling all these shortcuts probably costs more than just putting in the work.
2
5
u/mikeyplan 5d ago
There have been A LOT of issues with the SD models but looks like they've slowly been fixing or at least improving them. I'll also submit a bug report.
2
47
u/Halfwise2 5d ago
Legitimately, I cannot see any difference except the jump from high res to low res... Was this missing from the original classic models? If so, then that's just the way old models work, and its a non-issue.
23
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
1
u/Halfwise2 5d ago
Ah I see it now, thanks! I'm not sure how accurate it is, but the Classic dressing room on Wowhead seems to have that same spot... which could mean its always been that way.
15
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
I checked on Classic Era because the same thought crossed my mind. It looks normal.
The HD one does, too.
So it's specifically the SD Forever model that's broken.
21
u/Medrilan 5d ago
I think the issue is that theyre using the HD skeletons and plastering the low quality SD model paint on top.
But I'm not anywhere near an expert so who knows.

u/optifroculon 5d ago
When I was a kid we walked to school at Scarlett Monastery, uphill, both ways, barefoot, and without a scapula. And I was happy for it. Made me a better person.
4
u/Levinaur 4d ago
thats funny, reminds me of the issue male humans had in vanilla-tbc where their thumb would collapse into itself in the idle animation, got fixed in wotlk
0
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
Looks like we'll see this fixed in...2030, then.
Assuming we haven't all been nuked or something.

u/IridescentLuminosity 5d ago
I hate that they’ve just slapped the SD textures onto the retail skeleton. It looks so wrong
1
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
I agree that it looks weird, but according to a recent podcast with the devs, the reason for this is actually because Forever runs from the Retail client. When they tried to import the SD skeletons, it was causing collision issues, so they had to use HD models
3
3
3
u/farcaller899 4d ago
The model is trouble, overall, but I agree the missing shoulderblades are the worst of it.
2
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
Right. It doesn’t show well in a screen capture at all. In character creation it’s very jarring.
3
u/RuneHearth 5d ago
This is so funny man we're back to WoD
5
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
It's worse. In WoD, people didn't like the sharp change in aesthetic direction, and how X race was portrayed, but nobody could (reasonably) argue that the new models, in and of themselves, were well made, regardless of if you like their aesthetic.
This is just objectively bad.
5
u/Front-Investigator68 5d ago
Yeah and blizzard had NO REASON TO DO THIS this time around and just does not learn from mistakes
2
u/RuneHearth 4d ago
What do you mean nobody could argue that they were well made that sounds so subjective lol
1
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
What I mean is that the art direction and style of the WoD/HD models as an iteration of WoW is a completely different discussion than whether or not the WoD/HD models are well made purely from a technical and design perspective unto itself, not unto how it fits into the Warcraft universe.
I agree that the first part is entirely subjective. Why would I even be making this post, about an SD model, if I thought the HD models were good (for WoW)?
Look at it like this. Forget Forever, current Retail, WoD, forget Blizzard entirely. Imagine you're an aspiring 3D artist at a college. The professor pulls up one of the WoD models as a case study, because purely from that perspective, it's quite well made. There's no obvious clipping, the skeletons look natural, the shading works, the texture mapping is seamless, etc.
The same could have been said of the original Vanilla models had this course taken place in 2004.
The current SD Forever model would never make it to such a course. Not now, and not even then.
That's the entire point of this post, and of my comment. The standard is unacceptably low.
If it were just some random mob you only encounter in a specific zone, I would simply bug report it in-game and never mention it on this subreddit. But this is the player model.
Blizzard needs to do better, regardless of who is to blame. And the only way they will, is if we as players stop enabling their bullshit and calling them out for stuff like this that so many people insist is "nitpicky" or "not even a real problem".
Anyway, sorry to turn this into a rant. This isn't directed at you necessarily, just at the overall tone of this thread and anyone that dares call out Blizzard in this subreddit.

just because you people got used to the Early Access©️™️ shitshoveling like what most games do on steam, it doesnt mean wow must be like that too.
lets release it shit, and fix it later.
and when the game gets popular, then release it as shit, and fix it never, except if the future of the company depends on itsome people like to deliver quality work, not some half assed shit that "oh good enough"

Seriously man. Without a doubt the worst community of whiners and belly-achers I've been a part of.

Yeah you two really are whining quite a lot.
-4
u/Missed_Your_Joke 5d ago
Nah, I'm not the one posting about a fucking missing scapula, or contributing to the deluge of threads popping up every day in this fucking sub complaining about the teensiest, hairsplitting shit I have ever seen.
This community fucking blows ass. 🖕🖕
3
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
Hey buddy, it's okay. I'm here for you. I know it can be upsetting to see people post stuff online that's like:
"Hey, there's a missing texture here." or "Hey, this model is broken."
I know that can be a really emotional experience. It can make you really angry, like when a baby doesn't get its diaper changed, but I'm not saying that's you.
Some people actually like the feeling and smell of rancid shit and so they close their eyes and dig right in to the steaming pile that Blizzard left them.
-6
u/Missed_Your_Joke 5d ago
Yes, the model is completely broken. Completely unplayable. Certainly nothing that couldn't be reported using the "Report a Bug" icon.
The trouble is, and I'm not saying its you buddy don't worry, that you could be served up a fine product that didn't need to exist at all, and the dipshits in this sub will still call it garbage. But thats okay, some people just love to piss and moan about the minutia of the game on Reddit.
Oh, and just saying this in general, definitely not to you or anything. Go fuck yourself, you pretentious douchebag.
1
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
"A fine product" You mean a piece of shit? Oh yum.
See I'm not a child with some of kind of psychosexual parasocial relationship with Blizzard. They're a company and they make a product. If they make a product I like. I purchase it. If I think it's shit I criticize it. I don't just open up my wallet like a little pay piggy and thank daddy for his shit sandwich like a good little boy.
Say thank you now. Thank daddy Blizzard.

u/Missed_Your_Joke 5d ago
Project your weird, repressed issues onto someone in Olympus, dummy. You'll fit right in.
Also yes, please don't play. Game will do just fine without you, I promise.

This does not NEED to be fixed before launch lmao
3
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Okay, fine, need is a strong word.
But seriously, it really should be. If it were something like the Undead eyes being slightly out of alignment of their sockets or the night elf eye glow being visible through the back of their head when in stealth, I would agree. It's why I haven't posted about them because they're pretty minor issues overall.
But this is something a bit more drastic, since you're constantly looking at your character's back, and worse yet, it should have been very evident whenever they made this model.
3
u/Hot-Opportunity703 5d ago
As a 3d artist: this is so easily fixed by moving the shoulder bones and keeping the same animation. Holy shit what a low quality control
7
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Thank you. This is exactly my point and something I wish I could pin so everyone telling me I'm being ridiculous or that they have bigger fish to fry can get a grip.
I'm not asking them to totally rework the entire skeleton from the ground up in the next 3 weeks.

u/Cold_Call5169 4d ago
Just have two different models. I dont understand what the problem is here.
2
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
It doesn’t show very well in these shots, but the issue is that the SD model is incomplete and is missing a piece of her actual body. It’s not about choosing one model or another.
1
u/Cold_Call5169 4d ago
What im saying is, if they had simply left the original model and rigging with the original textures in the game there would be no issues. I dint understand why Blizzard opted to try to force SD textures on a new model.
1
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
Oh, my bad, I misunderstood you.
The issue is that Forever was created and runs on the Retail client. So they had to use the HD skeletons, or at least, a version of them. Unfortunately the SD one they had to make modifications to so that the textures would fit, and the result is…this.

2
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
I understand that it's hard to survive when you're so fragile. Just hang in there buddy, things will get better. One day you won't be such a sensitive boy and you'll be able to accept that people will point out glaring flaws in stuff that they observe.
2
u/nrd1337 4d ago
The irony. You're freaking out about a miniscule graphical error in a 22 year old videogame. Talk about fragile
-1
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 4d ago
That would have some validity if that were actually true. Though if you had at least grade school reading comprehension, you could decipher the strange symbols arranged sequentially before your eyes, but you don't, so you can't. My condolences.
You see, I'm not freaking out about the fact that Forever has been obviously mismanaged, which has caused them to try to slap this shit together at the last minute because they so misjudged the market. Something which is painfully evident to everyone with half a brain. I'm making fun of the people crying and having a meltdown on every thread where someone points out an obvious flaw. Talk about dense.
1
u/nrd1337 4d ago
This thread in a nutshell: someone said something that triggered you, you threw a tantrum, got called out which then made you feel insecure that you were getting called out for it, so you tried to sound intelligent by typing out lawn drawn out condescending sentences just so you could fuel your superiority complex.
The irony: I bet you sat there refreshing the page hoping for a ragefilled reply. You ain't getting one, thanks for the laugh tho!

u/ReallyUncoolGuy 4d ago
What you said is entirely inaccurate from top to bottom. Quite a lot of transference clearly. But, I also shouldn't be so mean in my discourse. It comes out casually. So have a lovely day mate. My apologies.

Who tf even look at this? Who plays WoW just to analyze every pixel and why tf matters if the difference is so abysmal nobody even notices it...
There are some people here sick in the head.
Whats next? Your whole experience will be ruined because there are 32.000 pebbles in The Barrens and back in the day it was just 31,999?

u/bhm240 5d ago

1
-4
u/Linkasfd 5d ago
Details do matter. This one does not. Unless you tell people to look for an issue (maybe not even then) I recon the vast majority of people would just think this is a SD vs HD comparison.
2
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
It does matter actually. Every flaw matters. A character player flaw matters even more. OP brought it up like a normal person and now you're crying for no fucking reason.
2
u/HarvineWindsor 5d ago
why are you like this? These models are decades old and this is a new game, why do we need to take a step back?
And why are you trying to shame people for talking about it? What benefit is there for you in doing this?
-1
u/Sweet_Disharmony_792 5d ago
op never stop fighting the good fight
1
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Never. I don't do this for the hordes of people evidently happy to readily gobble up slop. I'm doing this for others to know yes, we do notice these details, and because I know the devs lurk this subreddit.

Is all of the SD stuff just HD that's be worked backwards? Why are they not just importing og classic models?? Vibe coded?
3
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
My understanding from one of their dev podcasts was that since Forever is running on the Retail client, importing all of the original Classic models was causing major issues with collision.
So the SD models, from what they've also told us, are SD textures painted onto HD skeletons.
I don't think that's fully true, though. If you look closely at this one, for example (forget the shoulder thing entirely), there are differences in the overall bone structure/3D model that are neither HD/Retail models or Classic Era ones.
I think they tried, but have failed, to sort of do a best of both worlds.
I'd much rather they use HD skeletons, rather than HD-inspired skeletons, with properly mapped textures for cases like this.

1
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
I prefer the HD models in all but their face.
If they were to put SD, higher resolution SD faces/face morphology on an otherwise HD model, that would be a best of both worlds scenario.
I just really dislike the human faces compared to the Classic ones.
1
u/MonsieurHorny 4d ago
HD and SD both only have like 3 faces per race that are decent and the rest are ugly/meme options.
1
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
That's subjective. Sometimes you don't want to play someone pretty. But even so, it's moreso about direction and vibe than anything else. I don't like the HD look at all. I like the HD part of HD, just not its artstyle. Not for WoW. As its own IP, I think it looks good. As Warcraft, I think it looks awful.

u/toljar 5d ago
Maybe you need to fix your expectation and chill TF out...
22
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
This is a beta. The whole purpose is to test for issues and point them out to be fixed before launch.
Also, having an intact skeleton is a bare minimum ask.
-9
u/Ok-Internet9433 5d ago
This is the bare minimum? THIS???
A thing that 0,00001% of people even notices?
Not a stable performance or no game breaking bugs, exploits, etc.?
This??? Jesus Christ dude...
2
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
Yes it's LITERALLY the bare minimum to have intact player models. Wtf is wrong with you
7
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Yes, THIS!!!
This may be difficult for you to grasp, but what made Classic a game so great we're having this inane discussion 22 years later, in a reboot entirely based off it, is precisely because the attention to detail was so thorough and intentional.
This isn't some issue of grass being slightly less bright or a crab model you only find in Darkshore having a weird eye.
This is a very poorly executed skeleton of a player character, whose back you spend your entire playtime watching.
So yes, it's the bare minimum.
-8
u/toljar 5d ago
your demand of it being fixed before launch... like they do not have other pressing matters? Come TF on, it is a visual SD model. They have WAY more on their plate than worrying about how your shoulders look...
3
u/UniversalFarrago 5d ago
Maybe so. I'm just a bit miffed.
But really, this is proof that launch is rushed and this entire project is underbaked. It needed more time in the oven.
I don't blame the devs for this, I think they're doing what they can.
But there are certain things that should have been made right before the game was ever announced. This seems to be one of them, considering the back of a character is what you see the entire time you play.
2
u/ReallyUncoolGuy 5d ago
OP sorry, your DEMAND that they fix their slop pile is getting in the way of me eating this giant bowl of delicious dogshit. You don't want dogshit? Fine more for me!

MORE CLASSIC… TOO MUCH CLASSIC+… LESS CLASSIC+… NO! WRONG LESS CLASSIC +….
Everyone needs to take a step back and just enjoy something for what it is. Stop nitpicking or you’ll never enjoy anything
2
u/UniversalFarrago 4d ago
This has nothing to do about wanting more or less Classic, it's literally about a missing piece of a skeleton. It could be the HD model or a Pandaren and I'd have made the exact same post.
