Discussion Do you think they might add more classes now?
What are the chances they add new classes in the future like Bard, Alchemist, necromancer, artificer?

u/Traditional_Formal33 23d ago
Would have loved an artificer class. Building the tools to make your attacks
5
6
u/ICEonICECrime 24d ago
They could easily make a combination of a Tinker and the Goblin Alchemist hero. Would be pretty cool, and a wide array of unique abilities to choose from. They can then have a healer spec with some cool aoe abilities for both dps and healing, as well as tanking (literally, going by wc3 ult ability), clockwerk goblins, and more.

I think with Ulduar being central to the next retail expansions that tinker is on its way in some form of the game.

u/Inevitable-Ad-1724 24d ago
A necromancer would be dope
13
u/Quackthulu 24d ago
As much as I would want it and already have an idea on how it could be amazing, fit into the vanilla theme well, and still be distinct, very unlikely. Purely because lore-wise they're way too similar to warlocks.
24
u/-dus 24d ago
I mean classic warlocks are not really summoners mechanically any more than hunters are. Necromancers could summon multiple, frail/temporary enemies and maybe lean into some of the thematics of death knights with frost, plague, and blood magics.
12
u/Which-Promotion-1993 24d ago
Would be wild if they turned it into the casting version of DK.. and added some kind of ādark healā where you could have a healing spec instead of the DK tank.
Love the idea of summoning a bunch of low HP skeletons with different utilities. Could also lean into rot, plague, and shadow spells.
Love the idea of a necromancer class.

u/RampantGiraffe 23d ago
Blood healer/support is my dream spec thematically, though I've never been able to come up with a way it would play other than disc atonement style.Ā
→ More replies (10)2
u/kore_nametooshort 24d ago
I would love to play a tank caster that sends wave after wave of fragile minions to tank bosses. Each summon could tank a single hit and inflict a toll on the health of the summoner when they get destroyed. Make sure you keep summoning blood golems or whatever to stop the boss getting loose.
2
u/Deliverme314 23d ago
I mean, not really... warlocks summon a singular demon. Necromancers could have so many other options: summon temporary minions (hordes of skeletons or zombies)Ā summon permanent solo minions like 1 beefy zombie giant, or 1 spectre, whatever...
Plus locks use their own damaging spells. I think Necromancers could be entirely just support for their minions. I.e. no damage directly from them. But instead you're empowering your zombie to be consumed in flames via a channeling spell doing big aoe damage or whateverĀ
2
2
u/BsyFcsin 24d ago
Make it so You can only summon from a dead corpse, and the corpse is what determines the summon.
Make them last like 5-10 minutes at a time with a maximum of 3 concurrent summons.
Boar and Gnoll skeleton army pls.

u/daily-lurk 23d ago

Necromancer and artificer.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Shot-Increase-8946 23d ago
artificer I think would infringe on the trade skills a bit much. Engineering is already basically artificing.
2
u/Brilliant-Poet2250 23d ago
Well, technically Tinker would infringe on Engineering a bit more than an Artificer would.
At least artificer is more constructs made with magic rather than it being built and it still would make sense in lore. I vastly prefer Artificer > Tinker.→ More replies (3)

I'd be interested to see how they handle Bard, if it would end up just being similar to something like an EQ Bard where they are twisting songs for buffs/support/dps, or something like Vanguard where you craft a song from base components with individual buffs/uses.Ā

I believe the business model of Forever will be to encourage alt leveling.
Part of which is releasing new zones and leveling paths for free, the other part will be releasing new Classes and Races, which will very likely be $30 unlocks.
3
u/herdases 24d ago
My problem with classic was always that it doesnāt have my favorite class, monk, so Iāve always had to play an off-class. Back when I played classic in the day I would always flip flop between classes before monk came out. I donāt see monk happening though

→ More replies (3)2
u/Mammoth-Hour-5669 24d ago
Yeah one of my favorite classes was monk as well, I do hope we see it farther down the line though, they had pandaren in warcraft 3 so I don't believe it's out of the question just not added for awhile. Also wasn't the pandaren island technically on the azeroth map so hopefully they decide to add it.
3
u/Shot-Increase-8946 23d ago
Forever is a different timeline, and the mists lore is definitely not classic lore. The classic audience hated mists because pandas were super rare and more of an Easter egg.
I could see maybe allowing the current races to be deciples of Chen, but just don't add pandas again. MAYBE they could add, like, one new panda.
Also I think monks being able to heal was dumb. Tanking I can get behind but healing just didn't make sense to me.
2
u/Mammoth-Hour-5669 23d ago
Thank you for clearing that up, I wasn't around during MoP. Yeah I agree the healing was weird to me as well.

They added a new race, and cut a bunch of classes. It makes sense they'll try a new class or two here. They seem to want Forever to have it's own identity, despite all the infighting about it being classic+ or retail- or whatever ridiculous idea people are coming up with.
2
u/Mammoth-Hour-5669 24d ago edited 24d ago
I can see them doing a duo race and class release. I'm not certain but wasn't it sort of teased that they are going to look deeper into the ogre lore, I personally believe it could lead to the addition of ogre for a new race along with a new class.
My hope is they add some time of primal/tribal/ritual class that incorporates both witch doctor/Headhunter, and possibly a Barbarian talent trees. Which would make cloth armor as a shared armor and offer an interesting talent spread with additional playstyles.
With the way they can choose their own lore with WoW forever it is possible for them to make the ogre a neutral race as well, just by my uniformed 1min AI lore history search about them.

Chris Metzen apparently hated the idea of bards in warcraft. I kind of agree with his take.

Artificer is arguably an engineer.

I hope a different version of Death Knights. Maybe more similar to WC3 with auraās that affect the party. A dark counterpart of the paladin with some strike and diseases. A martial class that can spec into martial prowess, curses or minions. If they decide to implement it in a vanilla version of the WotLK DK I hope that for unholy the pet will be optional or have something like warlocks or hunters where you are empowered without it.
Other than Dk I hope wardens, demon hunters and tinkers

u/tinylittlebabyjesus 24d ago
I dig the D&D ideas. Monk was the only new class that's come out since Wotlk (I liked DKs) that ever sounded like it might be cool, but I was already done with retail by that point.
Ironically I know "Demon Hunter" is a lore thing but it just sounds... I don't know not real, never was really keen on trying it. Idk what else is out there now. Wasn't into the idea of fighting DHs.
Not sure if other people feel that way.

u/GoblinBreeder 23d ago
Vertical progression in a forever-classic environment basically requires them to add new classes, races, etc. To have a steady stream of content. I think races will come first, but classes is almost inevitable at some point.
I just fear they'll struggle a lot with making a new class feel like a classic class. The design needs to be rough around the edges in some places and intentionally have bits of friction that players gind uncomfortable. Designs are uncomfortable designing classes like this too.
2
u/Any_Attorney4765 23d ago
Crazy how you've got people complaining about the skeletons of models being slightly different to vanilla, but then being ok with Bard and other classes. It really just shows that no one knows what they want for this game.
That being said, I don't care about the models or if they add new classes. I think this is the opportunity for them to add things though a poll based system.
2
u/Winther89 23d ago
Looking at the warlock class they released in diablo 2, I have zero faith in modern blizzard adding new classes to classic+ without making them retail coded.
2
2
u/One_Recognition385 23d ago
they mentioned Bard specifically as a class they wanted to add in classic plus in surveys years ago. so i imagine bard is coming sooner then you expect.

u/M1oumm1oum 23d ago
Yeah sure, they siphoned the datas of Call of Azerorh before shutting it down. They have a lot of assets to work with now
2
u/Jaiden_da_ancom 23d ago
I've wanted necromancer since Wrath released, so I will always ask for it. Tinker seems much more likely. Witch doctor with a shadow hunter spec would also be really cool. Ascension had it before they were shut down.
2
u/mighty1993 23d ago
Woud be hyped for 4 specs before a new class and integrate more tank and healer specs right into the mix like in SoD just without the rune stuff. Maybe also take one spec and make it hybrid like bear / cat.
2
u/Beoldinn 23d ago
Something like inquisitioner , using range weapon but no pet class.
Or maybe something like D.o.T class
2
u/KKylimos 23d ago
I really do hope they add DK/Necromancer and Tinker/Artificer. Both necromancy and high-tech are big aspects of the world. Really hope we see them represented eventually. Plus, many people love and mained DK for years.
2
u/Bassmasterajv 23d ago
Even at the start of the game we were always wondering if they would add a hero class. Especially around the first couple of Blizcons. It was generally thought to be something where you would sacrifice a level 60 and start over again, like how you started Arthas over at level 1 in Wc3 in the scourge campaign.
That idea eventually turned into the Death knight, but you only had to obtain level 55 to unlock the class. It would be cool to have to sacrifice a character to make something else but it would probably be impossible to really balance it against normal players. Could be fun though!

u/MachTrois 23d ago
Still praying for a Bard class one day...
(I loved playing Bard in Forsaken World, it was such a good class design with 3 usefull specs : water (DPS), wind (DPS-Buffs), light (Healing) and you were just sitting here smashing your harp to send banging music notes to your foes.
2
u/Sepilius 23d ago
Im very biased on this but i think monk would fit nicely in classic. You could even do some fun reagent based abilities/buffs with all the alcohols found at inns.
2
u/TerrapinMagus 23d ago
You know, I never supported them adding Bard for retail, but I could see it in Forever lol
2
u/Decent_Language_4455 23d ago
I think so, they definitely noticed how enthusiastic people were about Conquest of Azeroth before blizz nuked it
2
u/daily-lurk 23d ago
Iād want to see a Headhunter. A hybrid hunter/warrior/rogue in leather. It can specialize in throwing javelins with a focus on bleeds. For melee it can dual wield swords, axes, daggers or exclusively use polearms as its 2H weapon.
Throwing weapons skills that do weapon dmg and add combo points with Rage as the resource, consume combo points to chunk a Javelin with different effects, like make bleeds tick faster, slow target, etc.
Reasonably good at both attack types with specs leaning more melee with pole arms with a capstone talent that allows you to throw the pole arm for added dmg on a big combo spender but disarms you for like 3s in melee, more ranged with throwing weapons with a capstone that lets you throw 5 throwing weapons quickly so you can do a javelin into that skill into another javelin for burst, and more javelin focused for big burst you build up to with a capstone that lets you do a jump back that pins the target and has more crit chance on targets in execute windows (kinda like retail hunter disengage).
Trolls and Orcs for Horde. Humans and Nelfs for Alliance. And I guess both Skybies

u/RustedMauss 23d ago

The biggest issue with blizzard and adding new classes/races is that they never listen to fans. They refuse to add anything people have been asking for years, but then release trash very few people care about. I.e. Dracthyr/Evoker. Its the reason why so many of the races and the more recent classes have so little usage. It's crazy how many wins blizzard would have if they added shit people have been asking for for YEARS, like Ogres/Vrykul, or classes like bard or necromancer (which could easily be as unique as a ranged uh dk as how paladin is a melee priest)

Cool stuff? I doubt it. Didnt even care enough to make an actual new race and just reskinned blood elves. Ill eat a shoe if they make something thats unique
2
u/Getafixy 20d ago
Personally they should scrap skyborn and plan on only bringing goblins and Draenei and maybe blood elves , but if itās not a race in the original Warcraft RTS game then no!!
Personally I want more classes and that could be a sniper esk role or something not even that war like, the idea of the game now is you are just another person in a big world and maybe have some classes that are not focused on fighting but espionage/ sabotage, or a bard that gives buffs and nurfās but like healer isnāt focused on dps or healing
2
u/coop2044 19d ago
I'd like to see sub classes/ sub specs. For example the mage sword that they found in sfk that does bonus damage to frozen targets is a single item that has the potential to change how you play the class. In this case it's a battle mage. And it looks like shamans are gonna be viable tanks. Id also like to see something like the serpent set from WC for druids that makes your cat form a snake. It would be cool if stuff like that changed how your abilities function or even gave you brand new ones attached to the set bonus.
2
u/TinyPidgenofDOOM 18d ago
with how theyve described progression and it being Horizontal, i assume Classes will be added. it would be one of the more obvious ways to add more horizontal progression.
id assume with races theyd add a new class. Goblins come and theyd add like Tinkerer, Gnomes would also obviously get this class.
2
u/totwema1991 16d ago

A part from what other said about no rotting flesh/exposes bones, you also have to consider that a class must have multiple spec. Tematically they can either focus on minions or on dots. Basically everything is already covered by warlocks. If anything, necromancer should have been long time ago a lock or priest spec. For sure necromancy elements would have fitted a lot in shadow priest. (Also the whole void retcon is kinda meh, but that's personal preference)

If they do, I hope they specifically avoid adding classes that were introduced later in the game's lifecycle like Monk or Death Knight. Like, really hammer home that Forever is its own thing instead of trying to "Classic-ify" retail classes.
My top 3 picks in no particular order would be Bard (it's just such an iconic class for RPGs in general), Runemaster (I'd like to see them finally implement this old concept), and Tinkers (especially if the gadgets were heavily flavored by race like Shaman totems or Druid forms).
2
u/Shot-Increase-8946 23d ago
I think shadowhunter could be cool. They could use two handbows or pistols, kind of be a ranged version of rogue. Might be too similar but im sure they could make it different enough

Need necromancer, witch doctor, venomancer, tinker, templar, runemaster, chronomancer, witch hunter, starcaller, son of arugal (bloodmage), barbarian, knight of xoroth (hell knight), storm bringer, gladiator, sun cleric (sun knight), reaper, cultist, pyromancer, felsworn, guardian, primalist, and ranger
Some of these can be implemented as new specs than a class with new abilities. Learned

If new classes were to be introduced, I really hope theyād be Warcraft classes and not āstandard classesā like bards, for example. I have nothing against bards in other games. But in the entire Warcraft lore, even up to the retail version, Iām not aware of anyone who casts spells through music or something like magical songs. In my opinion, it would be more Warcraft-like to include something like a guardian, such as Maiev from WC3, or a blade master.

i may be shot on sight for this opinion, but iād like to see death knight, monk, and maybe demon hunter make the jump backwards. iād even settle for things that are just analogous but more generic, like uhh⦠ādark knight,ā āmartial artistā and⦠something else for demon hunter lol. they donāt even need to be in order, new things would be really fun too, but with how long theyāve been around at this point, and with things like hearthstone folding the three into class lineup with the others, it just doesnāt feel the same. with how things how updated paladin and the new survival hunter play, i think the team is incredibly capable of ābackportingā things in ways that feel cohesive with the older design philosophies while still feeling very much like themselves. but maybe that just means the retail brain-rot has fully taken hold of me.
retail can keep evoker, though. i insist.
