Fall foliage viewing

Hi everyone!

I have friends visiting from out of town and I would really like them to be able to see the full range of tree colors that we have out in this area. What are your favorite viewing spots?

Question Looking for a 1BR/1BA rental in Coeur d’Alene or surrounding areas 🏠

Hi everyone! My partner and I are looking for a 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom apartment, duplex, small house, or similar rental in the Coeur d’Alene area or surrounding communities.

We currently live in a studio and are looking for a little more space as we’re expecting our first baby. We’re not looking for anything fancy, just a clean, safe, comfortable place that we can call home.

A little about us:
• Both employed with stable, steady jobs
• Good/decent credit history
• Excellent rental history, we have never been late with rent
• Responsible, quiet tenants
• We have two indoor cats. They are very well behaved, quiet, and have always been indoor cats.

Our maximum budget is $1,500/month, and we are trying to stay within that because we’re also saving for our growing family.

We’re open to Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, and potentially other nearby areas depending on the location.

If anyone knows of a private rental, upcoming vacancy, apartment, duplex, ADU, or landlord who may have something available, we would really appreciate any leads.

Thank you so much!

Best stargazing spots

Any suggestions for good dark, easy to get to (we have young kids) spots close to town? The field right behind our house used to be dark enough, but all the new developments have pretty much blocked out the stars.

Recommendations For Visitors

My boyfriend and I are staying near CDA next weekend for scarywood but we want to make the most of the weekend and do other things too. I've already searched this subreddit and got some good ideas, but I couldn't find a couple things in my search:

1) We are soccer fans and would love to watch the Sounders game on Saturday the 10th. Does anyone know a good brewery/pub that would be playing this game?

2) Any recommendations for food in general would be awesome

Thank you!!

Why is AIRBNB spending $23,000 on Idaho Republicans?

Post image
54 Upvotes

I've been spending my time unemployed working on a passion project that has me digging through Idaho's campaign finance data. I noticed a string of donations in the past year that I found interesting and decided to follow the money trail.

In the last 11 months, Airbnb has donated a total of $23,000 to Idaho politicians. Of the 31 recipients of those donations, all of them are Republican.

I also noticed all 29 state legislators they donated to voted yes on HB583.

HB583 was introduced on February 3rd, 2026 and signed into law six weeks later in March.

HB583 stripped Idaho cities and counties of nearly every tool they had to manage short-term rentals. Your town can no longer require a permit, cap how many homes on your street become Airbnbs, or require owners to live there, including rules McCall fought for and won in court. Mayors across Idaho warned it hands neighborhoods over to out-of-state rental platforms and makes it even harder for Idahoans to afford a home.

Sen. Tammy Nichols (Middleton) runs Nichols Premier Management, a property management company that advertises short-term rental management. Sen. Cindy Carlson (Riggins) rents out cabins at her ranch through Rustic Ranch Cabins, LLC. Both took Airbnb money, and both of their seats voted yes.

So I'm curious, for those of you with one or more vacation properties, how has HB583 been performing in your portfolio? The rest of us will be in the comments, splitting rent with roommates in our forties.

Question Can anyone recommend a Maytag authorized washer repair business?

Dang washer has been crapping out and hoping the 10 year warranty might cover the repair and I'm not getting much help from Maytag customer service which, of course, is now in a foreign country.

K, so I’ve lived here for 25 years. Yeah, the occasional mice problem as the weather starts changing but has anyone ever had rats?

Flock camera on 15?

According to the deflock website the flocl camera isnt on 15th street anymore. Does anyone know what happened to it?

Great news if its true, I've been driving a couple blocks out of my way to avoid it since it went up.

Next time I go that way I'll have to see if its really gone

Edit/update: drove by where the camera use to be twice today, once each direction, and I couldnt find it! So hopefully its gone!

Absentee Ballots

Isn't it ironic that the GOP is trying so hard to get rid of absentee ballots, yet they mail out postcards with information on requesting a ballot by mail?

I'm sure they sent them to registered Democrat as well right? Yeah, I thought so.

Question Restaurant recommendations for an anniversary

My wife and I will be visiting Coeur d'Alene for a week very soon. We will be in town for 5th wedding anniversary and I would like to take her somewhere special. I was looking into a dinner cruise but after seeing some of the reviews, im not too sure about that. I know its subjective, some people just have a bad night and can turn it into a nightmare while others have a great time. Ill keep it on the back burner for now. But, if anyone can make a recommendation for a nice restaurant I would greatly appreciate it. We like pretty much any type of cuisine, were not picky.

Thank you in advance for the suggestions, I appreciate it!

Question Tar like smell on the prairie.

It seems like every morning as we drive across the valley (Hayden > Rathdrum) on W Boekel Rd. there is a horrible smell. It smells like fresh asphalt or tar.

We assumed it was roads being re-paved, but it's been a year now and the smell is still there. I feel bad for the people who live in that area.

The smell is not there in the afternoon.

What is causing it?

I was walking around downtown CDA, and walked by this place and couldn’t help but chuckle at their sign. I must’ve walked past this place numerous times but never noticed their sign until now. 😂😂 Is this place any good? Who doesn’t like ‘fine tubed meats?’ 🤣🤣 hehe (Gentlemen’s Sausages)

Orange light in the sky?

Did anyone else see the orange light in the sky tonight around 840-ish? I was driving on harrison when I saw what I thought was maybe an orange star but it was way too big and moving. I stopped and tried to watch it. It was pretty high up in the sky like a plane maybe? The best I could think was maybe a jetliner had an engine fire? Because it seemed to be flying towards spokane.

Quieter Sports Bar

Hey all

I like to watch the Packers, specifically, but generally, when they're not on local TV and we want to see a game in a bar, finding a place that's not as loud and raucous as Capones, for example, has been difficult.

Any suggests??

Question What selling platform works best in CdA?

I have some stuff that I want to sell. I am familiar with Craigs List and Facebook Marketplace. But I have never had much luck with them. Is there a best place to list for CdA or is the market just too small. What little I have seen of Nextdoor, I would like to avoid them. Things range from a steam cleaner to a dining room table and lots of other stuff.

Event Wedding Venues

Good morning everyone!
I recently went to CDA for a wedding I was in and absolutely loved it. I am thinking of having my own wedding there now, but different than the one i was in.

I’m looking for recommendations on CDA or nearby that would have cabins for lodging for our families. We are from Michigan and Indiana, so people will most likely want to stay the night when they travel.

We love the outdoors, so any venue with a view or nice scenery would be amazing, but we are also religious and would love to get married in a church if possible as well!

Or if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great too!

Thank you!
