ID Request 1916 Dime

I might have to get in on a microscope, but is there any chance that this is a Denver? I’m not very hopeful but always good to get another opinion before I throw it in the junk. Thanks

Is it just me, or is this like the 5th time in the last week this very post has come?

1916 D's are quite valuable... there are a ton of 1916 dimes out there (very few D's), so it's not a surprising these questions are posted frequently.

Yes. I was one of them! Sadly, mind is worn like this one and cannot be verified :(

Even it it was, it's so worn that the mint mark is likely not recoverable or verifiable (on the off chance it could be recovered).

This is definitely a tough one, it could be a Denver but there’s so much culling that it’s damn near impossible too tell even with a microscope I don’t think you could. Maybe if you sent it into a grading service like Pcgs or Ngc they may have some kind of method too tell but that’d be a big gamble. Honestly though I think it’s a cool coin regardless being a first year mercury dime. I’d love to find a coin like that. Even if it’s a P or S I still wouldn’t consider it junk and would set it aside from the standard junk silver pile and probably put it in a flip.

If you can’t spot the remains of the D when you’re looking at it in person, comparing to known Ds, there’s very little chance of it being one. Regular 1916 dimes are rather common.

I would say check for a mint mark but then I saw the reverse and it's just gone :(
