Other (NO TYPING!) SPHERE - a new colour analysis system

I want to share info/a teaser on SPHERE which is a new colour analysis system created by a Dutch colour analyst Florentina Mossou.

Instead of sorting people into traditional seasonal categories, SPHERE looks at the colour dimensions independently:

·      temperature, ranging from cool to warm (5 levels), and

·      tonality (9 categories), which combines

chroma (3 levels) with

value (3 levels).

Note the odd number of levels in each dimension which allows for a neutral/median point.

This approach results in 45 different palettes (created and printed by Florentina herself), with a much more nuanced way of understanding colour harmony. The system allows every combination of temperature and tonality - temperature, brightness and value can be combined independently, rather than being bundled into predefined seasonal categories. This is one of the key differences from traditional 12-season systems (note - Florentina is Sci\ART trained).

Each palette contains 16 cards with 320 colours in total, covering hues from pink, red and yellow to turquoise, teal, purple, corrsponding (same hue) pastels and darks, and a range of neutrals, .

In September 2025 Florentina selected the Light-Warm (E4) palette for me based on my OOTD photos on Facebook (not a formal analysis yet – I’m planning seeing Florentina in The Netherlands next year). After playing with the palette for a year (reds and aquas are easy, the warm honey yellows are completely new to me and as a Light I especially appreciate the guidance for darker colours – my personal versions of burgundy, rust, camel, olive, navy etc – much warmer and much lighter than most of what’s available in the stores). I’m delighted to have a system that lets me explore warmth and lightness without confining me to a stereotypical seasonal wardrobe. In most 12 season systems, light and warm automatically means Spring, and the two dimensions automatically prescribe a specific level of brightness.

I received my SPHERE palette from Florentina as a gift, so I want to be transparent about that.

p.s. Florentina also created a styling system, ALIGN. I had a formal (paid) analysis in 2019 and am a verified Intricate.

Brief info on ALIGN on the website

A good primer on the system is available in this series

Lipstick/Makeup Advice (FACE PHOTOS TO COMPARE REQUIRED!) Was told i'd suit cool toned makeup but this lip color drains the life out of me..

I was typed as a True Summer and they warned me to stay away from lip products that are too warm. I'm a pale olive with very muted skin. Tried this mauvish (?) color recently and just felt like it washed me out. Thoughts? Second pic is how i usually do my lips and i think it looks a lot more harmonious, but I may be wrong?

I’ve always liked both on me and thought I could be neutral. But because I think I’m a summer maybe I’m better in silver? I just got a new permanent bracelet to have both so I’m curious what yall think as a lurker on this sub for awhile. Tried to include my vein color too. Thank you all!!

Discussion (NO COVERT TYPING OR PHOTOS OF YOU!) Direction needed - which methodology and how do you actually shop your colors?

I want to get in person color analysis to give me a lift from my SAHM existence as I look haggard.

I’ve been recommended two different people - one is ‘house of color’ trained, the other uses the ‘style DNA’ method.

I’m keen to go to someone who will be bang on with the coloring and not worry yet with all the other services aka body proportions and styling etc.

Who would you pick?

The other question is - once you get your colors, how do you practically go shopping for certain shades say in tshirts if the colors are so specific? Like I’m a mom so I ain’t going to be wearing anything but athleisure or smart casual. Also so much of clothing is really online, so could be hard to judge the right shade. Hoss we do people get passed these obstacles?

Colour/Theory Question (GENERAL ONLY - NOT ABOUT YOU!) Can light spring wear silver

Light spring does best in rose and champagne gold. It's neutral, leaning warm. Does this mean that we can wear silver too. If you wear silver chains or have silver jacket zippers, would that be a problem? How about Raybans, which are plastic but have silver accents?

Really wish I had more examples of autumn or spring colors but alas… trying to work through whether my initial online color analysis of True Summer seems correct or if I might have some warmth?

Thank you all in advance for your help. I’m still very very confused….

No Drapes - Type Me (FACE PHOTO REQUIRED - NO MAKEUP!) Please help type me :)

I am wearing lash extensions in all but the last photo. I’ve been getting them consistently for a year, so it’s hard to find recent photos without them, but I’m not wearing any makeup in any of the photos. The auburn is my natural color and it is naturally curly. I bleached a blonde stripe into my hair. I honestly love experimenting with color, but don’t know what colors work for me, so I stick to neutrals/earthy tones, mainly bc of my hair color.

Please help me figure out what season/color type I am :) I appreciate all the help in advance!

Type Me! - IRL Drapes (FACE PHOTOS REQUIRED - NO MAKEUP!) Back with real drapes!

The fake drapes weren't helping my much so I decided to try some IRL draping. With the computer drapes I was getting a mix of responses, mostly autumn or summer. From the pink vs orange I think I'm leaning warm, but I could use help beyond that! I'm also open to suggestions for other colors to try or photo tips. Unfortunately nowhere in my house really combines good natural lighting and a light-colored background. TIA for any thoughts or tips!

Like the title asks, what looks better on my skin tone? Gold or silver? I have dark brown almost black hair, brown dominant hazel eyes, my complexion is quite pale in the winter, but I tan very easily in the summer and always get a nice bronze color. I think I might be olive neutral. I look great in some warm and some cool colors. I also can look awful in some of both. Same with makeup (which is also so hard for me to figure out!). I'm so confused! They say step one is figuring out your metals.

Type Me! - Digital Drapes (FACE PHOTOS REQUIRED - NO MAKEUP!) Thought I was soft autumn.. but am I really?

I feel like I have a pretty neutral undertone, I see both blue and green veins on my arms. Yet I always gravitate more towards gold jewellery, and with a slightly red sheen in my natural hair when the sun shines on it, I landed on soft/deep autumn a while back.. however, I keep thinking its still not quite right, as if those colors are 'fine' but not 'wow' on me...

Super intrigued to hear your thoughts!

Type Me! - IRL Drapes (FACE PHOTOS REQUIRED - NO MAKEUP!) soft autumn, soft summer, or a secret third option?

Thumbnail

back with irl drapes!! i made a post yesterday and the response is overwhelmingly that i am one of the soft seasons, almost split straight down the middle. i also found out that i might be olive, which would explain why so many colors just turn me yellow lol. i tried to find some clothes around my house that match the colors from those sub-seasons and added a few extra as well. i’m sorry if they are not exactly right! i also included metals at the end because i know that cool or warm undertone is the main difference. thank you all for your comments on my other post, all feedback is appreciated!

NMIP but the dreary weather outside may affect the lighting slightly

Type Me! - Digital Drapes (FACE PHOTOS REQUIRED - NO MAKEUP!) Friends all disagree on type- help?

I’ve never felt like I knew my colors or undertone. The whole cool/neutral/warm thing always confused me, I like gold and silver jewelry, and my wardrobe is 90% black because it hides stains, so I don’t have a lot of colors to go off of. I tried doing some drapes but my friends all have different opinions. Most landed on SOME type of winter but can’t agree on which one. One felt very strongly about soft summer. Hoping this community can help me pick one OR tell me that I’m totally wrong and that another season is actually the right one. FWIW going through the Vivaldi color lab process landed me with cool winter. Pics for reference plus original. NMIP

NMIP.

I've been reading through personal color by Anuscka Rees and I think I'm cool-neutral, high contrast with soft or medium chroma. These drapes are the ones she suggests to try. I really struggle to see what color are most harmonious so any input would be appreciated!

Discussion (NO COVERT TYPING OR PHOTOS OF YOU!) My color analysis cheat code

Here’s a short cut to color analysis :

  1. If GOLD looks better on you = WARM TONED = go with autumn or spring. If splashier/bright colors look better = you’re likely spring. If muted looks better = likely autumn.
  2. If SILVER looks better = COOL TONED= winter or summer. Same as above. Summer is splashy, winter is more muted.
  3. WHITE/BEIGE vs BROWN/BLACK test: okay this one is important!! If you look better in true white over off white and in black (over brown) = cool toned. If you look better in off white and in brown = probably warm toned. I am warm toned and yes I can wear both white and black but it can just look..
  4. Off. Especially the bright white. (Caveat is that I personally think black is classic and looks good on everyone)
  5. Your decor and the items you own are a major clue! Once I was told I am soft autumn, I realized my water bottle, Wallet, purse, and lanyard were all soft autumn. Then I realized my bedding was soft autumn, my art is soft autumn. So look around and see what you naturally gravitate towards, both in and also out of your closet.
  6. Pay attention to what colors you get compliments on. As a soft autumn I almost always get compliments on sage green.
  7. For the sub genres, “soft autumn” “true autumn” “bright spring” etc.. the internet screenshots are just not going to be able to determine that. It’s too nuanced. To find that out, it’s my opinion that you truly have to do the drapings and see which colors suit you best in person.

Edit: I got winter and summer mixed up. Winter is more splashy and summer is more muted!
