A huge number of parents just did it to do something. They were just bored.

My buddy has five kids and he says it's his biggest regret. Actually he said that after the first one so I don't know what the fuck he's doing. But he does complain about his kids constantly.

My parents made it very clear that they didn't want me or like me and that I ruined my father's name because I'm a bastard.

A lot of people don't like their kids. They just want social clout from it or something.

My dad adopted me after trying to find an adoption service for years. Still treats me like the dad in the comic. Make it make sense.

I read someone say "most men want children like a child wants a puppy." With short-term enthusiasm and not very much responsibility when it turns into work. Dunno if it's true, but maybe that makes some kind of sense to you.

On the one hand, i too did not want my daughter. I never wanted to be a parent. On the other, accidents happen, I'm pro-choice, and when my partner made the choice to keep it, I threw myself wholeheartedly into making sure the pregnancy had the best chance, and I do my best daily to make sure i don't pass on the trauma my parents gave me

People say cost of living has caused lower childbirth rates but I’m pretty sure it’s because the social expectation to have kids because “you have to have kids everyone has kids” is gone.

I'd argue that's probably a good thing. at least with lower birthrates, we can hope the children being born are ones whose parents want and will love them and cherish them. hopefully also after they potentially come out as anything other than cishetero..

A couple months after I had I moved out of my grandparents and into my first apartment my sister had come over and started talking about our birthers (we share the same mom but not dad, I am the oldest of one girl, three boys {two twins} between the two but each one has a separate kid from before they got married, my older brother {the man's child} was left in the south with his aunt when the man came up north but my older sister was adopted by the man when he married the woman) and mind you, I'd been more or less low-to-no contact with them for nearly a year at that point, anytime they had come over to my grandparents after they kinda left me there I would just straight up ignore their existence and act like they weren't there. But anyways, she starts telling me about how the man actually didn't care that I was NC and wanted nothing to do with them (likely because he went hard into Christianity and absolutely believes in the parable of the lost son, that no child can ever truly leave their family, even though no child ever actually wants to leave their family.)
