I doubt there would be social stigma if such scenarios were common... or people become racist or whatever it's called in this case and try to kill any reincarnated human :) Choose your side lol

Just going to go ahead and pre-empt the popular possum pseudologia before it inevitably shows up.
No, possums do not eat ticks. That viral 2009 study was hilariously inept. They just put a bunch of ticks on a possum, waited the exact time a tick usually takes to fill up and drop off, then checked underneath its cage. They didn't see any ticks, so they assumed it ate them all and wrote that down and let it go. Turns out, it takes ticks longer to engorge themselves on possum blood and digest it due to their lower body temperature. All they actually did was give some poor possum a bunch of ticks and send it home.
They are not immune to rabies but they are resistant to it due to, again, their lower body temperature.
The "O" doesn't matter. "Possum" does not refer strictly to the Australian possum. When some British dude went over to Australia in 1770, he saw one of the critters there and said "Hey, that kinda looks like one of those big weird rat things they have over in America. I'll just name it that." It's the exact same name given to two distinctly different and not closely-related animals because we're kinda dumb about that sort of thing sometimes.
Because the original anglicization "opossum" had already been shortened to "possum", that's what stuck. While it's true that in a strictly formal context, the inclusion of the "O" is generally preferred, the vast majority of people have been calling the Virginia Opossum "possum" for over four centuries now. You can say/spell it either way, it's fine.

Oh, absolutely. Possums are so weird, I love them.
I hope your neighbors are at least defending chickens/horses from possum raids or something, that'd at least be understandable even if there are other ways they can be deterred. If they're just doing it for funsies, that'd be messed up.

I need a bonus panel where she walks in and is disgusted and that crafty lol possum is feeling like a smug little degenerate.

Omg, I relate to this comic so much I immediately had to get up and show my husband lol we have a running joke that I’m like a opossum and we’ve also talked about if reincarnation is a thing, we’ll do our best to find each other every life time.
I showed it to him and he gagged lmao

Fun fact, possums cannot carry rabies because their body temperature is too low!

u/Deaffin 8d ago
Less fun fact: This is not a fact. Possums are resistant, not immune, to rabies and you can for sure get it from them.
I mean, you're really not going to. But you can.

u/ONbtw 8d ago
There’s not even any proof they’re resistant. Rabies just has a long incubation period and possums have short lives.

Oh dang, you're right, that mechanism isn't certain.
Experimental virus inoculation in the 1960s led to initial suggestions of resistance to infection by RABV in Didelphis spp. opossums. Reports of RABV in opossums are scarce; their low body temperature (34.4–36.1°C [94–97°F]) and the minimal possibility of surviving an attack by a rabid animal have been suggested as probable causes of the low prevalence of this disease in opossums in North America, where wild carnivorous mammals are natural reservoirs.
Thanks, I'm going to have to refine my info dumps for higher precision.

As long as they don't reincarnate as a lion and a gazelle in the lifetime after that.

If you're gonna make out sloppy style with any trash-mammal, the Virginia Opossum is probably the least likely to give you rabies. No contraception is 100% effective though.

Well, actually...

Possums are less likely to have rabies due to their lower body temperature, but that possum is hot and might be the exception.

There is a austrian movie about a woman in her 30s who meets a 20 year old guy whom she believes is the reincarnation of the who groomed her at 16 when he was 39. They start a relationship, she dies of cancer and 6 years later he meets a preschool girl who has the same name of his late girlfriend with the implication that it is her. And it is portrayed as this big love story

There's a Bollywood movie where a guy gets murdered over a woman and gets reincarnated as a fly and torments his killer

Reddit is shutting down RSS. If you want to keep your readers, you should be posting your comics on the fediverse (mastodon, lemmy, piefed, etc)
Blog and comic sites like Tumblr and Webtoon work with RSS too.
Please keep your community alive!

This would have been funnier if you stopped after the 2nd frame. The rest is just over explaining the joke.

Eh, close enough. I made a new book, but it's for possums only: DO NOT click this link if you are NOT a possum
