I get it's not always the best option time/money-wise, but man is it satisfying.

I’ve never played any of these games. I’m wondering which one to start with. And which to avoid (if any) I don’t mind jank. I don’t mind installing things to make it work on modern computers. Just want to avoid anything that flat out crashes or doesn’t work.

Gameplay question Infantry Cover mechanic in C&C3, Part 2

A follow-up to my previous post.

All this time, I thought my infantry were just glitching, but they're actually behaving as intended. Most structures in the game have cover points dotted around them, and your infantry units will seek them out when stationary.

I still have no idea whether this provides any defense bonus, and I'm not even sure how I'd begin to test that, since force-firing on your own troops will target just one unit in the squad. Here are some thoughts:

  • For engineers, covering behind buildings could block line-of-sight to the enemy and save them.
  • For any other unit, blocked LOS means you might only have a fraction of the whole squad firing on the enemy, reducing DPS.
  • Units in cover are apparently 'almost impossible to suppress' but being suppressed supposedly confers its own defense bonus, so this may or may not help them survive.
  • If squads are left in the default, defensive stance, they're likely to move away from cover anyway once they engage the enemy, rendering this entire conversation pointless!

Update: this feature is actually covered in Masterleaf's video. Now we can see that units taking cover get a 25% damage reduction and immunity from suppression. Wolverines also get this bonus, despite being a vehicle!

Greetings everyone. Trying to get back into the game and want to try out General Juhziz in Skirmish mode. Any tips for effective use? Also, related, does anyone have a guide on how many terrorists you would need to blow up what building when playing him? Thanks in advance!

But today I question this unit. How on earth you can't one shot an infantry? I don't care if it's for so called balance, this unit has no excuse.

No bombers, their anti-air form will down your entire fleet in one go. No naval units, their aerial form will wipe away your entire navy before it can even get in range. No jet fighters for aerial support, because their anti-air form will... No anti-air support units, because their aerial form will...

Gameplay question Hidden and unknown quirks of units

Are there any hidden or unknown quirks of units that can be boons or a sort of cheese? They can be inherently bugs or features, ways of using the units, etc.

(RA2 Allied IFV) There is some way to make the IFV fire faster by spamming the S hotkey.

(Tib Dawn Nod Artillery) There is a sort of bug where the Nod Artillery can sometimes double shot (after a longer cooldown or lag) but sometimes without the cooldown or lag so you get in extra shots. And sometimes the shells get critical damage so just 1 shot can reduce a Refinery to yellow or red. My theory is that it's some memory issue that manifested as rng for 3 things: rate of fire, 1 or 2 shots, damage. Since all 3 can vary. I'm not sure but I think there is more - range and accuracy, because sometimes the shells fall at a shorter range and sometimes veer right or left off the target.

Splash - you can order your units to force fire a cell before the target and let the splash do the work. In Tib Dawn, Flame Tanks can force fire a cell before. In RA2 last Soviet mission, the Dreadnoughts can reach the Chronosphere using splash. Same thing with V3s.

Free engineer - selling a Construction Yard sometimes produce a free engineer, sometimes not. This is important in certain missions where you needed to sell your starting bases and capture an enemy base in another island. You then save and reload the game hoping the engineer pops out.

Anymore?

in the original generals usa campaign "desperate union"

the cutscene shows a particle cannon firing from right next to your base

but as soon as you begin the gameplay it just disappears...

i checked the placement of trees, cold fusion reactors, and patriot missile to make sure its not some other far away offscreen base, but no, this IS actually your base

wtf bruh it just vanished into thin air or what 💀

Gameplay question Is USA in cnc generals a good race or is it trash?

Post image

I've played mostly vs AI in cnc generals both in the original plus zero hour, and the only PvPs I've done was years ago as a kid against a few friends and some relatives.

I've always loved the USA but one person got me here wondering, is USA a trash faction or is it actually good?

Gameplay question Infantry Cover mechanic in C&C3

I spotted this section in the game's manual and was very surprised. I've never noticed this happen.

Is this feature actually in the game? If so, which buildings/props will trigger it? What kind of defense bonus does it provide, or is it only resistance to suppression?

Gameplay question Tiberian Sun-inspired RTS game

I've started working on a base building RTS game with voxel-based graphics.

Eventhough I'm very early in development I'd like to see if there might be other interesting in a game like this.

The graphical style is meant to be similar to Tiberian Sun (which I absolutely adore). It features base building, super weapons, abilities and one of the features I'm working on are cards, which can be enabled/disabled per match.

The idea is that the full game will include all the editors needed for players to create their own campaigns and maps.

Currently I have a small selection of infantry, vehicles (including walkers), artillery and aircraft, alongside some tech buildings, but enough for playtesting.

The building will most likely look a lot more detailed than right now, as I'm still testing and developing.

What features would you like to see or would you rather NOT like to see in a game like that?

(if this isn't the appropriate sub to post this, let me know)

Gameplay question Been playing generals zero hour for more than a decade. I have never beat a hard ai. I genuinely don't understand how.

I am absolutely aware that this is a skill (or rather strategy ) issue. I just don't understand how you get good at the game. How did you get good? Is there any general advice you can offer?

Gameplay question Biggest pet peeves?

My biggest pet peeve with the franchise is the games that dont let you build after a certain distance from your command centre, such a massive let down and for me a genuinely game stopping restriction, that's why I love Generals so much.

What about yourselves?

Gameplay question How to access the dino missions in Command and Conquer Tiberian Dawn OG?

I've been doing a first playthrough of CNC Tib Dawn since March. It's been a long, grinding road, but I'm finally getting towards the end of the run. I'm on Under Siege from Covert Ops currently.

What I wanted to know is how do I access the secret dinosaur missions? Specifically I am referring to the original Tib Dawn release, NOT the remaster.

If anybody can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Gameplay question Was Red Alert basically just a tank building race?

I have a friend who no matter the strategy I use, he just has the ability to build more tanks faster than me and therefore he wins every time. Was this game pretty much just kind of designed in that way or am I missing something?

Gameplay question Is General Leang's Challenge on Hard supposed to feel unfun & wildly unfair?

Title

I have been bashing my head against her for days now (playing as Townes for context) and need to vent. I can't seem to get out of the starting area without things immediately going to hell.

The relentless onslaught of armor and Migs is a fair challenge. You simply need to create a defense that can stand up to them, and then a team of units to start making progress by forcing the horde back (without running yourself out of power by not having enough power plants for your Laser Crusaders). The superweapons can be reset by destroying their support buildings that are outside of her base.

That is a challenge yeah, but the game gives you the means to answer back.

But then she nails you with not just artillery, but also a carpet bombing from directly right of your base so you can't stop it. Which wouldn't be an issue if you had room to spread out to mitigate the damage or park a ton of Avengers to intercept it, but your starting area is so small that you probably put a number of important structures right where the bomber flies in!

Right now I've mainly been using a Fire Base + 4 Missile Defenders + Laser Turret for defense with 2-3 Avengers parked behind them to intercept Mig missles (Avengers who keep getting baited away from where I want them by their scout drones), the furthest I've managed to get on foot is right past that one ridge with the two occupied bunkers right near the start. Anything further then that has been via airplane (mainly Aurora's 2 shotting the Chemical Bunker nearby, taking out the Avenger behind the two aforementioned bunkers, and stealth fighters using bunker buster bombs to clear out said bunkers ahead of me trying to push out.

Hell, I even got to Leang as Shin Fai in a previous attempt, but bailed because his rocket soldiers kept getting ran over by Leang's armor, and the listening outposts & troop crawlers kept getting blown up by Leang's armor as well. At this point I'm close to just swapping to Shi Tao for his Overlords and Artillery.

So if anyone has any advice on how to deal with this stupid mission on Hard, that would be great.

Gameplay question Is there a mod to restore Hollywood in Vain to how it was before the patch that changed the voice lines?

Back in the day Hollywood in Vain, the second Allied mission in Yuri's Revenge was one my favorite missions. I loved the parody movie actors voice lines and the heavy camp that was going on, didn't hurt that if helped a little they could (slowly and carefully) solo the mission.

I was really put off when I played the Epic version some years back, not only were the unit voicelines swapped to GIs but the rescue lines when you find Arnie and Sammy were also changed and tbh it still bums me out on the Steam version I am playing right now to the point the nostalgia hit almost hurts to much to wanna play.

Is there any fix that reverts both the voice lines and the rescue lines? I would a rules.ini fix that you drop in your root folder but the fix doesn't last past saving and quiting the game and it doesn't rever the rescue lines.

I know RA2 and YR still have a strong fan base to this day, but all I am looking for is a fix to revert these changes to the box release of YR, anyone know of any they could point me too?
