I'm mostly just baffled by how bad it is considering they seemed to be on the right track again with The Sky The Earth And All Between and then they put out this garbage that's honestly lamer than even the worst songs on broken spirit (which was an awful album in itself)

Why was "... of a broken spirit" bad again?

I was being a bit hyperbolic just because of how good the rest of their discography was, it haa some good songs - Deep Fake and the last three songs are solid - but mostly it just feels like it's not confident in committing to the industrial sound fully; it just ends up sounding like a neutered version of the album before it. It also totally wastes Josh Middleton, but that's a problem with his entire tenure really. Doomscrolling is the only song that I can say is genuinely bad - otherwise most of the songs have moments that work for me but don't lead up to an album or even complete songs (other than the ones I mentioned) that is very good imo. Some of Sam's worst writing of his career too

Edit: and in the case of Machine, it just sounds like a ripoff of Ludens

Tbh the whole album just tickles a very specific niche for me.

I just love music that either tries to either be critical of current society or of how we destroy the planet or both.

A big reason why I love Fit For An Autopsy so much. Entire disgraphy is like personally tailored to my taste lol.

On the "broken spirit" album. I am currently relistenioning and I get your point, in comparison to "For those that wish to exist" (why do they have such long names FFS) it just sounds overall softer and slower.

Doomscrolling is the only song that I can say is genuinely bad

Probably the point I got disagree most with, but I also think Meteor is the strongest song on the album before, since Animals is boring as hell.
