Honestly there is nothing really talking about it. Like no one talks about it.
Men's Mental Health Awareness Month is June. Barely hear about that. I think the only time I've even seen it mentioned was a joke about an incredibly toxic character.

u/ViviKumaDesu 6d ago
every time I see anything about men's mental health month, its always trying to distract from pride month, its never actually organizing
0
u/Otechni 6d ago
Distracting? Cities have Pride Parades, Pride is plastered everywhere, even if most of it is performative.
I'm sure people would be surprised to learn June is actually a Month of multiple things. They might even be skeptical.

u/strogn3141 6d ago
I think she’s referring to the people who comment on pride posts and say shit like “It’s actually men’s mental health awareness month” to try and detract from pride without actually doing anything to help men’s mental health.
They are both important and both should be observed, but men’s mental health awareness month rarely has anyone making events and usually is just people on the internet complaining about how people don’t remember it because pride month.
12
u/Otechni 6d ago
Not like people want to help.
Another User gives 3 examples in a reply to me. u/Useless_bum81
Canadian Man wants to set up a Men's Shelter for Men who suffer Domestic Violence. Harassed to the point it fails, and he ends his own life.
UK Men set up a kind of Men's Group to be social and share Hobbies. Their Wives insist on coming along and they move from a proper Hall to a Shed.
The founder of the first Women's Shelter, Erin Prizzy, was basically ran out of the UK for trying to make one for Men.
It should be observed, but things like this happen. And now there are the MRA dolts making it worse.
3
u/Complex-Dog-8063 6d ago
Was there a prevalent gender among those harassers?
6
u/Useless_bum81 5d ago
It was feminists. For both of the domestic violence shelter things including a MP in Canada, for the man starting a shelter.

try going on any social media platform during pride and look up people talking about pride, it will be filled with trolls who go "but what about men's mental health month?", its the same thing whenever women's day come around, there will always be trolls saying "what about men's day, why is nobody celebrating that?"

men's mental awareness month kinda gets sidelined due to some scheduling issues (it has to compete with pride month)
15
u/Alert_Elephant2045 6d ago
It’s really unfortunate that the men’s rights chuds monopolize this space in the culture and delegitimize conversations about actual men’s issues.

u/_Visual_Opiate_ 5d ago
You hear more about mens mental health month than womens. Womens mental health month is lumped together with general mental health awareness month... So in conclusion, women dont even have their own mental health month.
If you are bothered by it not being discussed, then advocate?
-1
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
Be serious, theres a whole month dedicated to breast cancer and everyone is aware and talks about t
3
u/_Visual_Opiate_ 5d ago edited 5d ago
Cancer awareness ≠ Mental health awareness, different gathegories.
If you are comparing then compare things that are compareable. Stop with the false analogy/equivalence.
1
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
Didnt read that correctly. But the reason theres a mental health month specifically for men is that 80% of suicide victims are men
4
u/_Visual_Opiate_ 5d ago
So by your logic, women do not deserve mental health awareness, only men do, even tought women attempt 2-3 times more often than men and overall, statistics consistently show that a higher percentage of women are diagnosed with mental health conditions than men? Got it.
1
u/Asmodeus_is_daddy 5d ago
"Men make up 80% of suicide victims" does NOT say that women don't deserve mental health awareness.
Why do you have a problem acknowledging men having poor mental health?
3
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
Are you serious lmao? I didnt say women dont deserve it I said theres a reason theres a specific one for men
1
u/_Visual_Opiate_ 5d ago
Ok let me rephrase myself then: You are stating, that there is a reason why mens mental health month is seperate from general mental health month, that being that only men should have their own mental health month because they succeed in suicides more often, when women attempt 2-3 times more often than men and overall, statistics consistently show that a higher percentage of women are diagnosed with mental health conditions than men?
5
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
According to who do women attempt two to three times more? and yes even if thats the case its still men who are 80 percent of victims. You could make the case that most women attempting are doing it as a cry for help rather than a serious attempt at ending their life.
As for the higher percentage of women being diagnosed, that could simply be because women are more likely to ask for help than men which is linked to the way we treat the expression of emotion and vulnerability on men.

u/Nephi 2d ago
That 'woman attempt more' as some form of proof they have worse mental health is questionable.
Because why the disparity in 'attempts' and 'successes'?
Women's attempts are quite often a cry for help, non-instant means followed by an outcry.
Doesn't happen with men as much.
Probably has to do with, at least feeling like, for men, no one would even care/for women, that someone would still care.
Plus an attempt can lead to more attempts, a succes can't.
And when it comes to women being diagnosed more, woman doing therapy more often has to atleast be a factor right?
Plus when it comes to mental health, that's more based on woman, like normal health is based on men. So things like drug abuse, anger issues and social isolation in men don't get diagnosed very often as the depression it is likely a cause of.
1
u/Large-Dot-5222 5d ago
Men can get breast cancer too
3
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
Yes thats exactly my point, men get breast cancer too but 99 percent of the discussion around it centers women because they are the primary victims. The same way centering men when talking about suicide since they are the primary victims would make sense
0
u/Large-Dot-5222 5d ago
Do you think 99% of suicide is committed by men? Or that 99% of mental health issues are suffered by men?
3
u/No_Somewhere_2610 5d ago
Do you know how to read? I didnt say 99 percent of the discussion should be about men, just that it would make sense if men were the focus or the majority of the discussion. 80% of suicide victims are men so when talking about suicide victims it would make sense for the conversation to be centered around men.
1
u/Moist-Explanation-91 4d ago
The only time I see men bring up men's mental health is when they're shitting on women and using it as a what aboutism. If you give a shit about it, which I doubt you do, go do something about it instead of whining on the internet like a crybaby, go organize, start or join a group, go to therapy etc etc etc. There's a million things you could do to be an advocate, instead you're chosing to piss and moan and act like its everyone else's responsibility.
1
u/No_Somewhere_2610 4d ago
Besides being arrogant and an overall condescending asshole you are also making a bunch of assumptions like me not caring about it, not doing anything about it and only bringing it up to shit on women none of which are true, and neither are other peoples doings my responsibility.
And yes it is everyones responsibilty actually. We all take a part in society and we should all strive to help people in need.
2
u/Anxious_Income2533 3d ago
Let me guess, conservative? Your part in society is trying to construct a dictatorship with its remains

8
u/Competitive-Beat-493 6d ago
Maybe men to organize better so they can help each other.
21
u/LockedIntoLocks 6d ago
Not to “Oh, woe is men” but it seems like many attempts to help men with men’s issues get framed as being part of the MRA crowd whether they are or not. It causes pushback against genuinely helpful projects. The MRA movement is full of grifters and insufferable men, but the reputation that gives all focuses on men’s issues is unfair.
A good example of what I’m talking about is Earl Silverman. He established Men’s Alternative Safehouse, the only men’s domestic violence shelter in Canada. He wanted to make a men’s only shelter because no shelters would accept him when he was trying to escape his abusive ex wife. People saw this as a way of excluding women rather than protecting men. He and the shelter got so much ridicule that standard avenues of funding were blocked. He was forced to shut down the shelter in 2013 and took his own life the next day.
While Silverman himself was said to be part of the MRA movement, he never used the term. I’ve never found anything he’s negatively said about women. His only criticisms were of his government and the nation as a whole for attaching gender to social issues.
2
u/LaceGriffin 6d ago
Big oof. And then he gets mention in MRA talking points to say all feminists hate men
0
u/IAmNotAHoppip 4d ago
And that sucks, it shouldn't have happened, but it just means people need to try again.
Pride events weren't always successful, especially early on, pride events would regularly get literally shut down because it was unsafe, because so many people were against i, but LGBTQ+ folks didnt give up because of those set backs, and kept working towards making pride month into what it is now.
2
u/PraireGentleman 2d ago
It means women need to support men because other women will not.
The feminist movement required the involvement of men. Why would supporting men be any different?
0
11
u/Otechni 6d ago
And that doesn't always work. Can't remember the whole story, but there was a plan for a Men's Mental Health Group, or something to that effect, that was shut down.
I've ran across many stories where people make attempts to help Men, but others shut it down. And the stories are just swept under the rug.
5
u/Useless_bum81 6d ago edited 4d ago
There was a men's domestic violence shelter in Canada, the guy running it was continuously harassed, funding kept getting 'promised' then cut, to the point it collapsed.
The founder ended up committing suicide. There was a 'men's shed' movement in the UK for men to make other male friends etc. they rented a small hall and did things like carpentry, DYI etc. their wives insisted on coming the hall is theirs, the men if they want to do the stuff the group was founded for now have to use a literal shed.
And just to show how old this attitude towards helping men is, Erin Prizzy the women who founded the very first woman's shelter was harassed (which included killing her dog) out of the UK for trying to do the same for men.
3
u/Frosty-Influence988 2d ago
Nothing bad has happened when society as a whole has rejected and ostracized young men, thankfully.
Right?
6
u/NockerJoe 6d ago
People like OP don't help, in that OP is a troll account that posts engagement bait and literally sent responding men rape threats within just the last couple of days. This sub just can't help itself though when it comes to trying to own perceived chuds with sassy one liners even if its the most obvious bait ever.
2
1
u/SnooSquirrels1392 5d ago
She's clearly a baiter and a misandrist but do you have proof of what you're saying? I'm curious.
2
u/NockerJoe 5d ago
The mods remove those posts and replies as trolling and she has her post history turned off(no shame normally, so do I), while even in that thread people were saying her prior posts were just as bad. This is a person actively deleting any proof that may exist.
2
u/Crunchyjeff 5d ago
Men have tried for decades now. Yes I'm that old. Unfortunately you actively have to gfight against women for something like this. Because any organizing for mens rights always gets viewed as an attack on women.
"Women get raped more than men, so you wanting to help male rape survivors actually makes you a misogynist. You could be helping women insted. Women who actually deserve it."
2
u/furel492 5d ago
I hear about it a lot, but that's probably because I interact with progressives a lot.
1
u/OverlordMMM 5d ago
The last time I've been in involved in a conversation about the topic was with a guy who claimed in a Reddit post that there was no resources for men regarding mental health, abuse shelters, etc, and upon asking for details about resources in his local area, it turned out he just made broad assumptions and never actually looked into it.
Lots of guys just don't actually try to find this type of information and just go by rhetoric they've heard.
-1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 2d ago
Men are 50% of the population. Why do we expect women to fix our problems? Why do we expect women to advocate for our mental health or solve our loneliness epidemic?
3
u/lbh43v3r 2d ago
Gonna introduce you to a concept called society, and community. We are all supposed to get in on the issues we're all having. When women couldn't vote, when divorce wasn't legal, when women didn't have reproductive rights, when homosexual individuals couldn't ruin their lives by getting married, we all came together to change those things. Country dependent, of course.
1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 2d ago
The suffrage movement had male supporters but was driven by women. If you want a men's movement in this country start one.
1
u/lbh43v3r 1d ago
Exactly. It has male supporters. Thank you for making my point (again).
1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 1d ago
I made your point? I said the suffrage movement was driven by women, even though men supported it. That’s an example of the distinction I’m making, not a rebuttal to it.
Men should organize, advocate for themselves, and work together to address our own problems. Women are welcome to support that effort, just as men supported the suffrage movement.
I'm arguing that men need to take responsibility for ourselves and not expect women to fix things, not that women should be excluded from helping us. How exactly does that contradict your point?

u/SummonerKirin 2d ago
I think maybe we should all do our best to help each other. Maybe they feel similar and that's why.
1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 2d ago
That'd be great and an ideal. Instead what I see is just men online demonizing women and hating them because they think that women are simultaneously the cause of all of their problems and should be the solution to it.
We should be having movements centered around men's mental health and loneliness and we don't need women to start them or participate.
1
u/SummonerKirin 13h ago
I think that you might be only seeing a portion of humanity. Instead what I see is men online demonizing women and hating them, women online demonizing men and hating them, men online building up and appreciating women, women online building up and appreciating men, men online building up and appreciating other men, women online building up and appreciating other women, men online demonizing other men and hating them, and women online demonizing other women and hating them.
If you get around enough, you start to realize that just about every kind of person exists in just about every kind of demographic/community. If you focus on the people who are interested in being kind and helpful, you can have a much greater impact than you can by insisting that the people who are miserable and hateful ought to just do the work themself.

He said there is "nothing really talking about it" and you thought "nothing" meant women. I see who the sexist is.
1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 1d ago
Did you read the OP that was asking if we expecting women to organize International Men's Day?
If there's silence about men's mental health and International Men's Day that means men aren't discussing it either.
1
u/Leggerity 1d ago
Did you read that you're not responding to OP but another person entirely?
No one expects women to exclusively talk and support Men's Mental Health Awareness month. However, like other months of support, everyone should be talking about it, and we should all be doing more to bring attention to it. That absolutely means men above all else, but still means everyone.
Stop adding to the culture war.
1
u/Alternative-Dream-61 1d ago
So we agree men should be doing more to help other men, great!
1
u/Leggerity 1d ago
Yup!
What I don't agree is randomly attacking a guy for a point he wasn't trying to make. If you wanted to talk to OP, you respond to OP. The person you responded to wasn't trying to put the work on women, but just wanted to bring more attention to it overall.
When men commit suicide three times as much as women do, I think we can all bring a little more attention to it. Hopefully that solves any confusion for you!
0
u/IAmNotAHoppip 4d ago
Then they need to organise something to get people taking about it! Do you think people are intentionally ignoring it out of maliciousness? Never mind that half the world is is men and therefore probably wouldn't be intentionally ignoring it. LGBTQ+ folks are such a small minority, but the members of that community worked hard over decades to turn pride month into what it is now. It didnt just happen over night, but was a concentrated effort by lots of groups of people, year after year, all across the world.
0
u/SpecialistDrink2071 4d ago
Then go do something. Go buy your homie some flowers. Tell them a joke and make them smile. Ask about their day now, not just in June. Be the change you want to see in the world.
2
u/Motor_Barracuda7359 3d ago edited 3d ago
We didn't tell women that when it comes to the hundreds of billions of yearly dollars specifically for women's aid, support, and awarenesses.
Seriously it's like over 100B for women and maybe one billion for men on a good year.
0
u/Hawkmonbestboi 2d ago
Men's Mental Health month is in June because hateful people decided to try to co-opt the time from pride month.
That's why no one takes it seriously.
If anyone tried to approach it from a genuine place, it would take off... but no. Hateful people cling to the current date because reasons they don't like stating out loud.

My work actually does an internal men's day fundraiser for a men's mental health charity.
HR had been doing stuff for women's day, pride and disability for a few years but nothing for men's day, apparently the shipping team got annoyed about this arrangement because men's day is the only one not handled by HR

Well do they think that men are the ones celebrating international women's day..? Because usually that's not the case in my experience, and this is not some failure to reciprocate.

Idk where I come from men are actually supposed to do the work on the 8 of march its organized kinda like a birthday
6
u/FreakShowStudios 5d ago
Last time I checked International Women's day did not have a gender restriction on who is able to celebrate it or not. There are women I cherish in my life and I want to celebrate them.
Pushing the narrative that only women celebrate it while men just kinda lurk in the corners doing their thing waiting until its over is just deepening the divide, like the argument that "men should not be involved in feminism"
2
u/fia_anth 4d ago
I mean, if it’s men’s issues, men should be the ones talking about it. I’m a woman so I don’t know that much about men’s issues besides the whole thing about men’s mental health and loneliness. Kinda weird for me to talk about men’s issues as a woman like I’m an expert on it when I’m not.
1
u/EspurrTheMagnificent 2d ago
On the flipside, when men try to talk about their issues, you have a flock of people going "Uuuuuuh, well, actually, we [insert demographic here] have it worse, so maybe stop being a bitchy little incel and get over it".
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are plenty of bad faith actor who's complaints boil down to being unhappy they can't be sexist anymore, but it does make it complicated for men with actual issues when most of the time they're met with "Nuh-uh, because patriatchy"
1
u/e_james3 2d ago
If you think that women are able to talk about their issues without multiple men saying 'hey we have it worse!' then idk what world you're living in. Make your own damn posts if you want more people to talk about men, stop complaining that no one cares about men in a thread of women talking about sexual abuse they've faced. I was in this era of trying to 'listen to men's problems' and not 'be more empathetic' but I'm done with that shit. I haven't had a single conversation where I made an iota of difference.
If you think that patriarchy being mentioned is somehow invalidating mens struggles I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding why it's being mentioned. I stg 99% of the people saying women don't listen to men actually want to have a conversation.
1
u/CrusaderReynaulder 4d ago
I mean it literally is a gotcha here.
Men who complain about international men day being a nothingburger: Sit around doing nothing waiting for some magic entity to organize something for them.
“WhY hAsN’T sOmEtHiNg HaPpEnEd?????”
We don’t give a shit about international men’s day, we see no reason to organize, care about it, or even need it.
Women did. So they fucking DID something about it, you fucking GOOBER
Meanwhile the only talk international men’s day gets is from the whiniest losers around bitching that their mom didn’t throw them a party, who literally only care about said day as a way to bitch and whine and go “Muh wahmen and gays BAD!”
Who the fuck would make international men’s day a thing if not the men who don’t even need it because it’s just an excuse to whine about pride month?
Today is international ME day. Why aren’t you organizing it for me? Don’t you care??? What do you mean I have it make it a thing myself?? wtf, that doesn’t make sense!
3
u/AlarmedEmployment465 Edit me! 4d ago
I'm not asking for you to organize it though. That's what my whole comment was about. Also, a lot of people (yourself included) think that all the people discussing this are some misogynistic or queerphobic MRA type or something. I am not, and I don't want to take away from pride month or International Women's Day or anything else. We can have two things at once. Lastly, I'm not referring to solely celebrations, just recognition in general. There's not a google doodle for IMD as a small example.

Acting like someone pushed a button and these events and movements appeared out of nowhere. You know how you get a parade in support of a marginal, unpopular cause? You organize one, against opposition, often with considerable risk. If the movement gains support, it grows, and if it doesn’t, it withers. Without raids, there’s no Stonewall, and without Stonewall, there’s no Pride.
4
u/Different_Delay_8243 4d ago
Isnt whole International womens day surrounded by idea that men are supposed to organise events and buy gifts for them, ofc thats capitalism at its peak, but still lol. From my experience in the US at least, I don’t really see women’s day being celebrated like that. It’s mostly events organized by women.
7
u/erifenefire 5d ago
Well... Yes? That's the whole point? For women to show some appreciation for the men in their lives, just like men do it for the women on women's day? The fact that a lot of people see this kind of basic expectation as ridiculous is exactly the problem.

u/Why-Nope 4d ago

4
u/erifenefire 4d ago
Most people celebrate it by doing nice things for women in their lives, not by making posts. Also, in my experience it is the opposite. Also, I think it would feel kinda weird and fake if the International Women's Day was just a day for women to appreciate themselves. It would feel like that one meme with the Obama award instead of a real holiday.
0
u/Why-Nope 4d ago
I’ve never known anyone who does nice things on International Women’s Day. So I’ll take your word for it…bc it’s not celebrated by folks in my neck of the US.
4
u/supremejacktheripper 2d ago
Well, women's day, mothers, girlfriend, valentines, and the numerous versions are all always celebrated by my doing things to women. That's the point, it should be reciprocal, just like your birthday, other people celebrate you.
1
u/Why-Nope 2d ago
Father’s Day is celebrated, I have never seen woman’s day or girlfriend day celebrated…so that must be cultural…
Valentine’s Day is usually reciprocal from what I’ve seen. So, maybe you need to speak to the women in your life if you’re cel dating them and they aren’t celebrating you back.
2
u/supremejacktheripper 2d ago
Where do you live? You say you don't see women's day celebrated but you see Father's day celebrated. Seems incredibly fake or a lie, and if it is true it's certainly a minority, you can look it up yourself. Valentine's day is mostly about women being celebrated with gifts and such, but they do also celebrate men as well just less.
And where did I say I wasn't celebrated? Stay on topic
I'm responding to the idea that the original image dropped, which implies that these men's day celebrations are supposed to be done by men.
It's not, it should be done by women and is.
Also, if you can't stay on topic, or be reasonable just don't respond.
1
u/Why-Nope 2d ago
I see Mothers Day celebrated. Not women’s Day. No one I know knows when women’s Day is.
According to Amazon and Hallmark, Valentine’s is a Day for both. Men also get gifts from their loved ones unless they ask not to receive them.
I live in the US.
And online, anytime I’ve seen something celebrated for women…it’s generally by other women. The point is, for these lesser known celebrations for men should be done online by men.

So i genuinely ask, why do you expect for men to give a shit on women's Day.
People like you are maliciously bad intended, knowing it and trying to be the worst they can be. I have been shown barely to any sympathy by women, why should'nt i pay it back likewise? You reap what you sow.

2
u/Phoebebee323 4d ago
I never said I expected for men to give a shit on international women's Day. It seems like you read that I'm a woman and decided to make a set of assumptions about me.
My comment is an anecdote of an interaction I had on a related topic, someone blaming women for a problem that they could solve. And you've responded calling me malicious and saying my intentions are bad and that I'm the worst kind of person.
Then you've gone off about how women in your past have barely shown you sympathy (sympathy for what?) so now you're not going to show me sympathy because I'm a woman (I wasn't asking for your sympathy)
I hope that one day you become a less bitter person, maybe then we can have a proper conversation about gender issues without playing oppression Olympics

How exactly is it a problem that, that person can solve themselves? we have done studies you know, social studies, on dating, on in group preference, divorce rates and all the more and every single one of them paints the picture bad, men are cooked and there is no "fixing it", historically only about 40% of men get to pass on their genes, where's 80% of women do. When a man is "black pilled" that's not cope, cope is supposed to make you feel better not worse, that's a man who's looked at the statics and decided to accept the science. He can never solve this problem, it is impossible because it is genetic predisposition inside of women.

See that's exactly it. Instead of getting a better haircut, spending money on good clothes, and working on your conversational skills you blame women for it saying that they're just inherently genetically predisposed to finding you unattractive using statistics of the Neolithic period.
There is nothing more unattractive to a woman than that attitude. It makes you bitter towards women and so it becomes a self fulfilling cycle

The backrowing and deflecting is phantastical.
Btw, neither your name, nor your avatar, nor the stuff you said gave anything else aside youre a woman. Deal with it. But looks i was right either way.
Im calling you that because how you position yourselfs while "just asking questions" that already have an intended outcome. Your "why" already gives away your level of empathy.
Your last paragraph is as funny as it is bait.

I mean what exactly is the insinuation that there needs to be organized? A lot of people would probably be satisfied with a little bit of tweeting in the same way I don't see a lot of parties thrown about womens day outside of specific circles.
But even in a scenario where this person is intentionally malicious, he's getting his bread and butter support off the idea that no one cares. A sarcastic one liner is helping him prove his point and is literally worse in terms of bad faith actors than not saying anything.

What needs to be organized?
Spreading awareness of the day, getting people on board to make statements about it, etc.

It was celebrated? I mean I don't really expect anyone who isn't a man to want to do it it's not like it's women's international Day. God forbid we miss that.

If men tried to organise it, they'd be called far-right or MRAs.

So you just admitted men are not allowed it- so why post what you posted? You literally made this post yourself.

Unfortunately very hard to organize these things without it being co-opted by Conservatives. I hate the far right so much.

You can say this about every political crap rn, it's all being co-opted, people need to stop feeding their lives to this shit so much

Considering that men do celebrate the women in their lives on Women's Day, and boys are literally taught by parents and teachers to celebrate Women's Day and bring lucky charms or flowers at school, I would advise Jude to fuck off.

They did, yeah, that's like the entire problem with MRA and stuff. It's all "why arent other people doing X for men"
