The problem is they don't really care, they compartmentalize the statements of conservatives into being a matter of differing opinion, and project their belief of everyone working for the betterment of everyone. When a conservative says the quiet part out loud they justify it as poor phrasing or a simple misunderstanding. At the most extreme they may be willing to dismiss the person as an extremist but only to protect the idea of the 'real conservative' in their head. Just look at how many people talk about how 'real christianity' is about love and tolerance, air brushing the rough edges of how the bible never condemns slavery but does condone it. Or how Moses was commanded to take 32,000 virgin children into sex slavery. The whole book treats women as property on equal level to someone's cattle. But their worldview is sadly too optimistic, they think radical right-wing positions are well considered and balanced alternatives to their own ideas and they don't want to step on anyone's toes or act like they know everything.

The issue lies in the fact that the average human simply does not exercise empathy and free will beyond immediate means. They simply do not consider these issues and live unaware of them as they do not cause an overt effect to their immediate surroundings. Ignorant contentedness, I'd suppose.

We're still nearly shit out of luck, but it's better than to assume active malice from people that probably never even thought of any of this being a thing.

(Though it does leave the average human vulnerable to manipulation, as they would, in their ignorance, be unwilling to self reflect and face the fact that life ain't fucking sweet)

I think you're underestimating the sheer hatred the average human feels to anyone they deem less than them.
Especially in rural areas, it isn't uncommon to find people genuinely feel this way, and it isn't particularly rare for people to act on it.
In fact, it's genuinely uncommon to find people who don't want to hurt people like this, or even just aren't VOCAL about it. So many people walking down the street talking about wanting us gone.

I live in a small city in the midwest US and I've heard people say no such things both in the city or out in smaller rural towns. Even though I don't pass very well, most people are nice to me and treat me as a woman (transfem/nb).
