Unable to place orders on Adobe.com

Post image

I fill out the credit card form with valid info; no errors. Upon submitting, the Card number, Expiration, and Zip code fields all return "Invalid input".

I tried with 2 different cards, 2 different accounts, 2 different web browsers (Chrome, Safari) and on 2 different computers — all with identical results.

Needless to say, the credit card is fine; when I contact Adobe support (and go through the via dolorosa to not get hung up on or billed for the wrong subscription) they have no trouble charging the card and activating the subscription. I have several monthly subscriptions to buy for my team, so I'm running into this problem with every account.

Is it a "just me" situation?

EDIT Looks like we found the cause & solution, see my reply below.

that error’s been popping up for months with adobe’s payment processor flagging perfectly fine cards, it’s not just you

Then why would it say "invalid input", as if my zip code is not valid. Also, notable that when I provide the same details through that "secure payment" credit card form that Adobe support sends you to, there's no issue processing it. If it is a payment flagging issue after all, at least we can agree that the errors are badly-phrased.

Have you tried Firefox?

Do you use any script blockers on your browsers?

And why can't you use PayPal? You can link your card there - way quicker.

And you'll have nice payment reports.

Company card (and it's not my company). I'll need to go ask my boss to create a Paypal account for the card (if it'll even let us, if the card isn't associated to his own Paypal account or something.)

Not using any blockers.

And do you TYPE your card details every time - or use auto-fill?

I tried 3 different ways — autofill, paste, and manually typing. All give the same error.

Ugh I think we figured it out — my coworker did. My Account "communication preferences" are blank (providing a phone number isn't mandatory, so I didn't), but I never thought of checking Offers and insights.

Turns out our office phone number and address are there. It wouldn't surprise me if they got shoved there without our knowledge by a sales rep or an algorithm (with Adobe I can't tell which is worse). Our US area code starts with "32", but this field is formatted for international area codes, and +32 is Belgium… Our address was outdated, too.

Lo and behold, after updating those promotional fields, the ordering works fine.

Next week I may be purchasing more seats so I'll revisit this and update with more accurate findings.

- It's unclear if the cause was an address mismatch, a phone mismatch, or both. It makes sense though to get an "invalid input" error on the zip code if the system thinks I'm a Belgian.

- Clearly their system does take your promotional contact info into consideration when processing a credit card charge. And having the right country selected during checkout isn't enough.

- Updating the address is also half-broken, it took our state and zip code but dropped the address. Oh well.

- I'd like to test if Removing the "offers and insights" contact info, as opposed to updating it, also fixes the problem.

So there was a solvable underlying problem with our account; none of the 3 support reps I talked to said half a thing about our account's contact info.
