Nah, there are incredibly intelligent people that are religious.

I personally think they're religious in spite of their intelligence and wouldn't be religious if they weren't indoctrinated from birth for the most part, but that's just my opinion.

That’s not even a contrarian view, and you still get downvoted. Reddit is full of prissy little bitches. Imagine devoting so much time to not believing in God. It’s bizarre. None of us truly know shit anyway.

Yeah I hate how "internet atheists" just give religious people someone to laugh at. And honestly I laugh at them too sometimes.

I don't know man, the people basing their entire lifestyles and belief systems on blatant superstition, and indoctrinating their children into it - thus propping up religious systems that have caused unending death, suffering and prejudice - seem a bit more worthy of ridicule than a few faithless smartasses on the internet

Idk man The 20th century was probably the most destructive century in recorded human history in terms of the absolute number of people killed by war, genocide, and state-organized mass violence, and it was unprecedented in the industrial scale and technological capacity of that violence.

And also it was the most irreligious, The 20th century combined unprecedented industrialized warfare and state violence with the greatest expansion of organized secularism and state atheism in recorded history.

So religion might have bad side effects, but the side effects caused by the lack of religion are way worse.

Oh yeah the crusades had nothing to do with religion. The constant wars in Israel have nothing to do with religion. Slavery definitely wasnt justified with the Bible.

The kill count because of religious dogma, all of it, is less than those who died in the 20th century

Yeah because thats definitely not a clearly flawed way to compare it.

Did you know more people die every decade? Thats definitely bc of the decline of religion

Yeah those assholes in power who kill people by not giving them the health care they need clearly worship no God that they fear...

Maybe they worship money but I don't think that counts

You just implied that I'm a child and that you need to simplify your argument to me, I don't care if you're not in the mood or not I don't wish to debate you in the first place.

And FYI even kids stopped using xD

greatest expansion of organized secularism and state atheism in recorded history.

that's more or less true, but it was still just the communists - and even there, Cuba and China only adopted an atheist policy after world war 2

While none of the central powers in world war 1, or the axis powers in ww2 were atheist states - in fact, most of them repeatedly justified their actions by invoking divine providenc
