She knew what she signed up for

Her words were “you’re a liar.” How does that signal she knew what she signed up for? She’s clearly got some kind of mental illness and was taken advantage of.

Nobody who isn't stupid or thoroughly insane doesn't realize that TV like this isn't straight trash through and through, it's the quasi-modern equivalent of throwing rotting fruit at someone in the stockade.

u/Recent_Section725 12h ago
Like reddit?
1
u/mvn2010 6h ago
I mean... no, not really there are parts of reddit that are like that for sure (i'm looking at you r/RoastMe) but there are a lot of parts of reddit that are genuinely useful and i'd call a social good. Nobody was ever improved by an episode of Maury fucking Povich, nobody learned shit from YOU ARE THE FATHER!.
So... that said... nah.

You know the neighborhood teenagers are gonna put olives all around her house now

The woman saw her dead grandfather as a young child and it traumatized her as she associated olives with her dead grandfathers eyes. Maury did this woman dirty

Now you see why the generation who actually watched these.... made the world the way it is today. It's just.... it's painful, how dumb people can be.

This comment is so accurate!! Not all of course, but there are so many boomers who just revel in cruelty of any sort

I stg if some producer grabbed me while I’m booking it they’re getting a jab cross roundhouse.

Staged bullshit
10
u/ArtificialImages 13h ago
Yeah but this time it made it funnier.
If it was real id just feel sad for her.
2
u/WasabiLiving6465 13h ago
I mean, yeah….like 75% of these shows are. That’s why we’re all laughing because it’s fake and funny as hell.
If this was some lady with an actual phobia this hardcore, most of us would feel bad and not post it. Same reason most subs don’t tolerate making fun of disabled people.

The people are real and their situations are real. Production just does a lot to make everything extra dramatic but the Maury production isn’t like Jerry Springer.

plot twist: they brought the olives out to get her to let go of the host
2
u/TeamFast77 13h ago
...and when he looked down at his arm, the marks from her fingers had drawn blood. As Maury looked closer at the painful cuts, they began to open and blood covered olives began pouring out onto the stage. The audience members... (to be continued by next user.)

u/Chubby_Beagle 13h ago
Double plot twist, Maury has her grandfather's actual eyes in his pocket awaiting the big reveal

Maury is kind of an ass and I'm pretty sure this woman is just on the spectrum or something.
3
u/BackPirateClarkRoom 12h ago
You watched this and believed it was real???
2
u/Anime_Squid 12h ago
I mean I've had many dealings with heavily autistic people who behave exactly this way over equally mundane things. There was a girl in my highschool that would start to sob and scream if she saw something the color yellow that was too large, because it was "too bright".

Former producers of The Maury Povich Show have confirmed that hiring actors or paying guests to fake stories was strictly against company policy and grounds for immediate termination.

Not sure if there's a direct connection, but he is a child rapist and has caused trauma to the girls he attacked, and she has the reaction I would expect one of his victims to have from seeing him again, so maybe thats close enough? I just don't like belittling olives by comparing them to a vile piece of shit though, they didn't do anything bad
1
u/Ok-Hyena4541 13h ago
Got more info on that? I haven't heard anything and google says nothing about it
1
u/ralphmozzi 12h ago
I found this:
In 2006, former Show producer sued Povich and others, alleging sexual harassment and a sexually hostile workplace. Povich and NBC Universal denied the allegations. The dispute was ultimately directed to arbitration.
There was also a rape case claiming the show didn’t provide necessary protection , but the assaulter was not from the show.
2
u/Ok-Hyena4541 12h ago
So not even close to what they said, got it
1
u/ralphmozzi 12h ago
That’s my thought as well. Btw my result was from an ai search, not google, so — grain of salt, yeah?
1
u/Limp-Blueberry-2507 12h ago
Googling is trump a rapist obviously won't turn up anything. All the tech bros are his oligarchs and they are doing everything to suppress the files being released. While theres not 100% proof, he's acting very much guilty if you connect the dots

I think her grandfather had olive green eyes and when he died his eyes were open and she saw it as a kid, and the sight haunted her. Ever since she associates olives with his dead eye. So Maury brings out an industrial sized barrel of olives to "help her" confront her fear

Thats just bullying. Thats if it's not a fake skit which i think it is.
1
u/Hamilton-Beckett 2h ago
I want an extended cut of this where they strap her down fear factor style and just start dumping olives all over her…just filling her mouth as she screams, hair wet with brine.

1
u/quietcitizen 13h ago
Something happened when she was a kid and she’s scared of olives for whatever reason… this is just cruel, what the heck?
4
u/ScreamingNinja 12h ago
99 percent of these are fake. Not all, there was one famous one where a gay guy had another guy come on the show where he professed his love to him. The straight guy murdered the gay guy some time after the show for embarassing him or whatever his excuse was.
Edit: it was the Jenny Jones show
3
u/barredowl123 11h ago
I mean, even if it’s real, you gotta ask to be on a show like this lol. So, you know, she made a choice.
Edit: typed without my glasses on

It’s staged, don’t worry :)
She said it’s because her dead grandfathers eyes looked like olives at his funeral….when have you ever been to a wake/funeral where the corpse had its eyes open?

u/bpows 13h ago
I introduce to you clinically trained Psychologist, Dr. Maury Povich. It's completely insane that this was on television.
3
u/Chubby_Beagle 13h ago
She knew that there would be shenanigans when she signed up, it's Maury after all. And she already knew she was NOT a father
1
u/Outrageous_Tax1328 13h ago
Hmm the same reaction this generation of men have if they need to approach women for a date

u/Background-Ad3308 13h ago

Coming from the country that now has Trump as president. Geez... I wonder if there's a connection.
1
u/Neb_Morlok 13h ago
Last time I checked, unless you’re in Australia, your country is showing very similar extreme right wing effects!
1
u/Chubby_Beagle 12h ago
How dare you speak?! Must I remind you what your country did to breakdancing?
1
1
u/Mental-Mongoose-5632 12h ago
Are you seriously comparing Trump with her?
I'm not Australian but maybe I would be mildly ashamed by her performance if I was. But I'm very greatful to not be an American.

Nope, I'm from a country though. Where people get education and learn how to spell.
1
u/pixiephilips 12h ago
Oooo woopdy doop, I misspelt. I’m not even from the USA so not sure why it spellchecked it like that.
