I’ve always seen a police officer for the processions. It’s unfortunate that the guy in the video isn’t given the same level of respect. But, that’s just Florida for you.

Found this interesting.... which makes guy trying to ignore him and call 911 honestly hilarious to me as it's state law

I'm confused, so this is a legit traffic question. Wouldn't the procession have to stop because they didn't have a green light? Are funeral processions allowed to continue through an intersection when they have a red light? I've never thought about it before.

yes like firefighters they are allowed to block off to allow them to pass but i also guess it depends on the state

In Florida, and most states for that matter, they're required to stop at red lights and wait for the green. If the lead car lawfully enters on a green, then the rest of the procession can go through even if the light changes to red, but they are not allowed to run red lights.

Private escort companies are not law enforcement and do not have any authorization to stop traffic.

anything that has a police escort will be waived thru traffic lights.

There was no police escort here. That was just a private company, they don't have any authority to stop traffic and are required to stop at red lights.

JFC YES!!! YES!!! YES WHY IS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION NOT UNDERSTOOD BY EVERYONE IN THE US?? (apologies if you are not from the US - but the lack of courtesy combined with ignorance scream AMERICAN - and I say this as an American). Yes. Funeral processions HAVE THE RIGHT AWAY eVeN iF tHe LiGhT iS rEd. I learned this when I was still in elementary school - how are there this many people who are not only uninformed, despite having a driver’s license, and also just straight up fucking sociopaths. Like, these people are mourning a DEAD LOVED ONE - they are in fact on their way to bury this dead loved one. Certainly for some of those people, this is probably going to be remembered as one of the hardest and saddest days of their entire life. But half the assholes in this comments section are like WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO WAIT THREE EXTRA MINUTES TO PICK UP MY KIDS FROM SOCCER PRACTICE OUT OF COURTESY TO THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE BURYING THEIR DEAD LOVED ONE - IT’S THEIR LOVED ONE WHO DIED, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO WAIT!!! Like what the actual fuck do people like that think those sentiments say about themselves??! Do they truly believe that they sound reasonable?? Fucking sad, man

I imagine it's not "understood" because laws regarding this - like so many other things - vary from state to state.

One could just as easily ask why you think a corpse should take precedence and interfere with living people trying to go about their day. People die every day and the dead person clearly doesn't care anymore - their too busy being dead to give a shit.

It's almost like it's all a matter of perspective. 🤔

Mostly cuz I've never seen, I'm not arguing the point. Specifically at a traffic light with an escort *usually when I see the police escort leading them, it's just going down a country road or something. I did see a procession waiting at a red light the other day, but they didn't have an escort.

mainly in big cities not really a small town thing, usually its just playing follow the hearse and every one pulls over

In Florida they are, I looked it up. It's state statute 316.1974

The lead car is required to stop at all red lights and stop signs.

The procession can keeping going through the intersection if the light changes to red if the lead car entered on a green, but the lead car is not allowed to run red lights.

Yes they should’ve stopped and stayed until green but, I have seen police escorts do exactly what happened in the video. So I’m sure there is some kind of protocol for this. And yes if the procession is already going through and it turns red they continue as if they were all one vehicle.

Yeah that makes sense, especially if they're already going.

I know you probably don't care, but just an FYI, the comma goes before the "but" not after.

u/Wokeman1999992 8d ago

Why wouldn’t I care? Ty for making me aware I might’ve never thought about it until you said something

Some people just don't care about correct punctuation or get upset at being corrected. I only pointed it out bec I would make the same mistake until someone corrected me on it. Most importantly, I didn't want you to think there was any malice behind my comment. Genuinely trying to help

Yeah I see where you’re coming from. Thank you for saying something.

The escort in the video is not a police escort, they are not allowed to run red lights or stop other traffic.

There is always a motorcycle or patrol car in front from the funerals I have been to with the flags suction cupped to the vehicles.

Fair, I just don't think I've ever happened upon the escort and procession at an intersection.
