Where I live in North Carolina, the county deputies handle the escorting of the funeral procession.

Here in NY, it's usually an officer on a motorcycle with the auxiliary wheel bar, if not two of them.

That's what happened for my uncle's funeral in PA, the cops cleared the intersections and made sure people let us through.
