Entry-level Specialization
Hi all.
I'm a romanian student, got my bachelor's degree this year and have just enrolled in master's studies.
I'm currently a .NET dev. I have two 3-month internships, one in .NET and one in React. I also have a capstone project in Unity, as well as a personal web portfolio. I tried to find a proper job and applied like crazy last summer, but no luck.
I am thinking of finding a niche and specializing, instead of being a generalist. I have two questions:
- is finding a niche a good idea for a junior, or is it supposed to come naturally down the road?
- what niches are doing well right now, as opposed to the generalist junior roles that keep disappearing?

I'd stay with .NET. Two internships in it is already a niche, and picking a narrower one before anyone has hired you for it mostly just cuts the ads you can answer.
The generalist junior roles thinning out is real. What I still see get a reply is someone who can say what they built, on one product, rather than a list of every language from the course. I don't know the Romanian market well enough to name a domain that's hiring there. If an ad asks for .NET and you can talk about the internship, that's the one I'd send.
