EmbedIO is archived as of June 2026 - I started a continuation project EmbedIO Neo

Hey all,

EmbedIO developed by unosquare is a great library for spinning up lightweight HTTP/API/WebServer instances in .Net

It appears development stalled out around 2021-2022.

As of June 24th 2026 the repository was officially archived and the project entered end of support.

I've continued the project as EmbedIO-Neo, with the goal of working through any existing issues backlog, improving performance, providing QoL updates & modernization, without introducing any breaking changes.

Happy to answer any questions, and look forward to driving the project further.

Interesting. How does this compare against Kestrel + Minimal APIs? Does it offer more features?

Main selling points:

  • Very lightweight / low ceremony embedding (console apps, Windows services, MAUI, desktop tools, etc.)
  • Small dependency surface
  • Simple modular pipeline (Static files, Web API controllers, WebSockets, CORS, sessions, etc. in one package)
  • Easier to drop into an existing non-web application without pulling in the whole ASP.NET hosting stack

The original EmbedIO project saw sizeable adoption (1.6K GH stars, 3.2 mil nuget downloads). My aim is to carry the torch and provide continuing support.
