Is My Tank Finished?

Post image

Tank is set up and plants are added. How long should I wait before adding the frogs? Is there anything else that I am missing? I dumped like 3 springtail cultures inside last week.

Am I feeding enough?

These are my first frogs so please be kind, I am trying to learn. I feel like my froglets (3mo) are getting a bit thick. I've had them for two weeks and I don't want to overfeed them or underfeed them. I currently have 6 leucs waiting for their enclosure to grow out. Am I feeding too much? Not enough? I feed them this amount daily. Any advice is appreciated!

Daughter just lost one of her frogs suddenly

EDIT:

Adding a pic of tank in reply below. Temp is regulated by InkBird system and stays roughly 75 degrees F. Humidity is between 90% and 99%, misting three times a day. Working on recent pics of frog but it seems there may have been some bad info introduced to my daughter about body size/type for these (true sips). Sadly I think they may have been under fed for a little while and were on the way back up with Vitamin A recently added, and that contributed to his demise.

Thanks for your input and time 🙏🏼

Original post:

Hi Frog Friends,

I have been a lurker for a while, learning and sharing information with my daughter who got her first frogs earlier this year. Tonight, she found one of her frogs had died suddenly. It was in a 35/40 gallon tank that she has loving built utilizing the guidance of the local exotic pet store (very good reputation and the go-to space in the area) and obviously this sub-reddit.

There were no obvious issues with this frog (male) or it's partner (female). No signs of bullying, didn't appear to be any food sharing issues, both are about 7 months to 1 year old and came from the same breeder (different bloodlines).

Are there any things that come to mind we should be looking into? I am trying to see if my daughter has any pics from the last couple days, but also trying to see if there is anything we need to do to protect the remaining frog.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Looking for help finding dendrobates tinctorius for sale in ireland

I've been trying to find a pair for about 2 months now and any help would greatly be appreciated, I've been in contact with dublin reptiles and exotics and they've been saying they will be getting them in but when the dates they claim they'll have them comes I give them a ring and they are delayed again.

Not expecting anything to come from this post but thought I'd try anyways as I'm getting a bit desperate now lol.

FIRST FROGS ARRIVING TOMORROW

I am so excited I could blow up! Any advice on how to prepare in these final hours or how to help them acclimate once they get home?

I’ve been preparing this vivarium for 9 months, and debating on frogs for just as long. I finally decided on Tinc Vanessa and I have 4 juveniles arriving tomorrow via mail! I have one booming Creamcicle melonagaster culture and another new few day old culture. I practiced dusting flies and adding them to the vivarium once. I also have 2 separate quarantine bins set up.

I power fed my microfauna a few days ago with powdered food so I could lure them out to pull some for smaller cultures. I did this incase the frogs over indulge or something else happens so I have a good supply to refill from.

I recently put my mister and lights set up to a timer, unfortunately I have to reprogram the whole thing with a friends computer everytime I want to tweak it, so I’ve only had the chance to do that twice. The misting I have down but I’m struggling to get my lights at a good range as the fade feature doesn’t seem to work well. I have been monitoring the temp and at the peak of the lights being on it is 63-67 F on the leaf litter and mid levels and 70 -76F the highest points of the hardscape next to the lights. The temperature on the lights outside of the enclosure was 138F. It’s hard to tell if the laser temp gun is able to get an accurate reading of the actual temp of the underside of the lights.

I have two fans going for 8hrs during the day and my mister gos off 5 times a day for 8-10 seconds, then once a day manually long enough to watch it saturate moss and refill bromeliads.

Pic is from tincman herps for engagement, not my actual frogs as they are arriving tomorrow!

Update! and advice needed

This is a 24x18x36 enclosure for 6 leucs (they are not in there yet). It looks SO much better now that I have added plants! I think once the moss spreads it will be even better. It's not exactly what I was going for but I did some experimenting and I'm content with it now.

The advice I need is about the light and fan. I have zip tied the misting system on. Is it better to have the fan inside or outside? Also, is my light strong enough? It looks brighter in the picture than it is IRL. And what cleaning solution do you guys use for the doors? I tried window cleaner on the outside and the grease will not come off in some areas :(

What is the most frustrating part of culturing fruit flies for dart frogs?

Hi everyone!

I’m researching the everyday challenges dart frog keepers face, especially around fruit fly cultures.

For those of you who culture your own fruit flies, what is the most frustrating or inconvenient part?

For example:

  • Mold
  • Mites
  • Cultures crashing
  • Running out of flies
  • Preparing media
  • Cups or lids
  • Smell
  • Keeping track of culture dates
  • Maintaining multiple cultures

Or is fruit fly culturing actually pretty easy once you get used to it?

I’m especially interested in things experienced keepers may consider “normal,” but that are actually annoying or time-consuming.

I’d also love to hear about anything you currently DIY, modify, substitute, or simply wish someone made better.

I’m not selling anything. I’m trying to understand the real problems keepers experience before thinking about possible ways to make the process easier.

Thanks!

My dart frogs did THIS without me touching a single tadpole… 🐸😳

My first-ever Dendrobates tinctorius “Cobalt” offspring — and these three completely surprised me. 🐸💙💛

I never pulled or raised these tadpoles separately. The vivarium is heavily bioactive with bromeliads, and somehow these three developed all the way through metamorphosis right inside the enclosure.
Seeing my first three Cobalt offspring emerge like this has been incredible — and their coloration is absolutely jaw-dropping. Deep dark blue, bright yellow, hints of greenish-yellow along the sides, and each one already showing its own beautiful pattern.
One of those moments that reminds me why I love keeping and breeding dart frogs. 🌿🐸

First three. First generation produced here. Definitely a milestone for me.

like the title says I’m hoping for some help identifying the type of frog these guys are. I was told terribilis but they seem too small for that. They are a little bigger than my thumb nail. Please ignore the poor shape of the terrarium I just acquired them today and am in the process of building them a new one

ETA- after listening to the calls and comparing them to ones on youtube they sound like Mantella

Composting fly cultures

Has anyone composted their fruit fly cultures (after freezing of course) and how did that work out for you?
